Life with A Diseased Heart
A life with a healthy heart is something that is beyond wonderful. Unfortunately, many people of the world cannot embrace this feeling. Individuals all over the world deal with heart disease. 15 million and counting, heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the U.S.
What is heart disease exactly? Heart disease is a disorder blood vessels within the heart. Heart disease cannot be cured. Once an individual is diagnosed with it, they will always have it. There are procedures that exist to help make the blood and oxygen flow towards the heart more comfortably. But unfortunately, the arteries will remain damaged, making it possible for a heart attack to occur.
“Risk factors are conditions or habits that make a person more likely to develop a disease, and can also increase the chances that an existing disease will get worse.” (“Lower Heart Disease Risk”). The main risk factors for heart disease includes the following: High blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, obesity, being physically active, and having history of heart disease in the family. Unfortunately, family history of heart disease cannot be altered in any way.
There is not an ethnic group that is not affected by heart disease. However, “the cardiovascular disease death rate among African Americans is 34 percent higher than for the overall U.S. population”. (“The Facts of Cardiovascular Disease”) African American women ages 50 and up are twice as likely as Caucasian women to be diagnosed with heart disease, and is more likely than Caucasian women to have a heart attack. A heart attack is the most common outcome of heart disease.

Executing stretching activities helps out a lot too. Everybody stretch before they do any physical activities. Not stretching before a physical activity can result in pulling a muscle. Lifting weights is a great way to prevent heart disease also. “You can use weights, resistance bands, or your own body weight (yoga poses, for instance) for this.” ("Exercise for A Healthy Heart”). This should be done at least 2 times a week. The body should rest on other days for muscle recovery. Keep all of this up, and the heart will remain healthy, just as it should be.
Life should be happy and stress free! Ways to prevent heart disease does exist. Life itself isn’t fair without a healthy heart. The fact that heart disease is the leading killer of both men and women should be a wake up call for everyone. So get up, start jogging, and get ready for a healthy, happy life!
