Communication is a significant part of how NZ Police run their business and I believe I have several skills in this area that will prove to be valuable in the Technical Support Officer role. Several of these skills are being an active listener, asking questions, recognising non-verbal cues, and relating to others.

This was a great opportunity to help the local diabetes community and to provide a voluntary service for advice on nutrition, lifestyle, and exercise. I used my food science and marketing knowledge as a platform to communicate with the community and to address any issues they were experiencing. Later, I created public health announcement posters listing the potential symptoms and causes of diabetes. The posters were emailed to every Wellington hospital and rest home followed by the contact details for Diabetes NZ. The increase in coverage resulted in people seeking out the charity and obtaining knowledge on the disease. Providing this service improved the relationship between Diabetes NZ and the public and I believe these skills in communication and customer service would be valuable in Digital
The Thompson Valley Police Service is seeking to double the number of police recruits over the next three years. In an attempt to attract more applicants, the newly appointed Police Commissioner, Commissioner Jason DeVillain is proposing two key changes to the current selection process. Firstly, Commissioner DeVillain is proposing to eliminate the requirement for partial or completed tertiary education. Secondly, it is being proposed that psychological testing should be removed from the selection process. As a research and policy officer for the Thompson Valley Police Service, the validity and likely impact of the above two proposed changes will be investigated thoroughly, followed by recommendations to Commissioner DeVillain to ensure the selection process is as effective as possible in selecting the most suitable candidates for the new police recruits. The role of a general duties police officer is broad in nature and requires the officer to be efficient in many areas, ranging from administrative duties to conflict resolution and problem solving. Diabetes has recently become a focal point of health care systems around the world due to its high prevalence and the severity of secondary complications caused by the disease. Over the course of my project on diabetes, I have had the opportunity to speak with a group of diabetics to understand from a patient’s perspective how diabetes is managed in a rural community. While I found that while some patients ignored treatment and refused to make any dietary changes, the majority of the patients I interviewed were well-informed and actively managing diabetes in their everyday life.
Perceptions of what constitutes a qualified police officer have been crafted as a result of numerous television shows and movies. They are often portrayed as heroic, invincible, and possessors of brute strength. While some of these physical attributes are in fact expected and required of police officers, they are not the only ones and at times, may come secondary to alternative methods, such as the use of strong communication and critical thinking skills. Policing has changed immensely since the days of resolving issues with a night stick. There is a desire for today’s police officers to possess the educational capacity to develop and implement community policing initiatives. Additionally, there exists a desire to professionalize policing. This drive for professionalism has led to the desire for increased educational requirements (Brecci, 1994).

With that happening, the American Diabetes Association has become one of the top non-profit organizations in the world and has over 100 locations nationwide researching and serving the communities to help fight and prevent diabetes. They have everything from expert scientist researching the cure to regular citizens contributing their time to help fight this disease. The ADA offers many opportunities to everyone in the country to be a part of events and campaigns to help spread news about diabetes. There are millions of dollars of donations each year to the ADA with every penny possible put towards research. With effort and passion like this maybe one day there will be a cure for diabetes.
Currently, I am a Practice Quality Support Coordinator and one of my roles is assisting practices in locating and outreaching to patients that need preventative services performed, such as a mammogram, colonoscopy, or follow up for patients with high blood pressure. By ensuring patients acquire these services, we can detect health conditions earlier, prevent trips to the emergency room, save money, and most importantly save lives. I am passionate about focusing on preventative care and encouraging a healthy lifestyle to each one of my patients. I have personally seen the power of exercise and a healthy diet in my brother’s life. Playing football and other forms of exercise has stabilized his blood sugars and led to a reduction in the amount of insulin he needs. I want to be involved in the education for newly diagnosed patients, as well as the management of their disease in everyday life.
Workforce selection practices have become more prominent over the years, particularly with law enforcement recruitments. This enhanced use of process selection allows for more advanced methods of assessing police officers. One reason for this extreme emphasis on selection systems is the elimination of unqualified police recruit applicants, thus ensuring that monetary resources are not wasted on the ill-equipped (Cochrane., Tett., & Vandecreek, 2003). Several factors impact the potential success or failure of police recruits, including tertiary studies; efficient communication skills; previous moral and ethical behaviour and psychological adequacy of recruits. However, just two of the four selection criteria including tertiary studies, and personality suitability will be analysed and evaluated in this literary review. Higher educated police officers are better equipped to serve in today’s complex and challenging environment through greater awareness of social and cultural/ ethnic community issues; promoting a more professional image of law enforcement, as well as exemplifying themselves as ‘problem solvers’ rather than ‘reactive agents’(Trfymowych, 2007, pg. 419). Likewise, psychological and personality suitability of employees allows for police officers to screen out psychopathology as well as Identify individuals who match some ‘ideal’ profile of high performing police. Therefore, this review aims to determine whether or not the selected criteria reviewed are valid for use in a police recruit selection process through a detailed evaluation of each criteria.

Police officers have a stressful job that requires quick decisions making with good judgment. Duties of a police officer involve writing reports and maintaining order in criminal situations, it’s all judged with critical thinking. Due to all the different duties that are required from a police officer they are required to have certain traits such as a good physical agility, ability to cope with difficult situations, well writing skills, as communication skills, and have the ability to have exert and respect commands of authority. Each department will recruit officers in a different way, but they will have some standards for recruitment techniques. These requirement will vary from minimum requirements, education, technology, legal knowledge, residency, and diversity. (Ch.14 Pg.349)
Ideal Job profile The ideal job I am interested in, is working at the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The ideal job would be working for the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The AFP is the essential elected law enforcement agency of the Australian Government with a special part to examine crime and to ensure the safety of national security of the Commonwealth of Australia (Australian Federal Police, 2017). In this role, the AFP has to pay very careful attention on anticipating, exploring as well as disrupting transnational, serious, unpredictable and sorted out crime, including terrorism, drug smuggling, child exploitation, cybercrime, human trafficking and fierce radicalism (Australian Federal Police, 2017).
According to Strong Interest Inventory, it reveals that my personal values and potential skills can be a strong fit for law enforcement occupation. My highest personal preference is working with people, learn by doing, lead by taking charge, taking risks, and enjoy participating in teams. Working with others enhances my interpersonal skills that can help me make quick and decisions in any circumstances.
Group dynamics is a term that describes all various processes that are involved in groups, involving personal (psychological) satisfaction of individual members and the output of the group as a whole (French et al. 2011). Group dynamics represents a system of theories and insights that are rooted in a number of social sciences. In every group there are certain forces, some of which are beneficial while others destructive - this is what is being defined and influenced by group dynamics in order to make groups efficient and effective.
