The Book of Heather Waves crash hard against the walls of my mind. I feel as if I’m drowning and I’m swallowing the saltiness that burns the inside of my lungs. I can let go of myself and disappear into a different world and be a different person if I feel like losing the fight. Then, suddenly my eyes focus back on the word and I immediately realize I’m dry and breathing, in my bed. This is what it feels like to read the Bible. As long as I can remember reading God’s words has been a passion of mine to express my need to get away, learn, and find myself. Using a book to get away is therapeutic to me. Books allow us to visit any place we can imagine, see the details in a city you’ve never even been to, how the buildings were built and how the lives that made an impact in those places. For me as a child, I loved reading stories in the Bible. Some of my favorite books are Proverbs and Psalms because of how detailed and beautiful they are. The Bible is full of detailed places; some places are beautiful, some are soaked in poverty and full of sin. Faith has built me to the exact person I was created to be and the person I want my children to learn from. My dream is to spread The Gospel and teach the world how to survive the storms that stir in our brains and hearts. The waves that crash against the walls of my mind can be calmed by the Words of God. We can not only breathe but we can truly live. Without the Bible, I would’ve never learned how to survive the deep scary waters. I would’ve never learned about Jesus and how his saving grace works. I would’ve never found myself in this dark world that tries to swallow you whole and drown you until no more. I’m hopeful the world will learn the same way I did.
