What does it mean to be a Christian? Some may say that it means helping others out or just being kind to the people around them. Some say that being a Christian is just going to church on Wednesdays and Sundays, but there is a lot more to it than just being kind to others. Christians are called to try and be like Christ, to try and live like He did. They are to try to stay away from worldly temptations and glorify God in everything they do. Christians are supposed to try and live like Christ. Even though this is impossible to fully achieve, living like Christ should be a Christian’s main goal in life. 1 John 2:6 says, “Whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.” Christians are called to be kind to everyone, even their enemies, just like Christ did while He was on earth. Christians are to forgive anyone who does them wrong or treats them poorly, just how Christ forgives everyone no matter what. They are called to turn the other cheek. The Bible says in Luke 6:31, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” …show more content…
They make bad decisions and fall into worldly temptations just like everyone else. Sometimes they choose to follow the people around them, even though those people may not be the best influence. Christians can even be tempted to go to parties where they will face with several different temptations. The difference is that Christians feel guilty about what they have done wrong and try to change their ways. They pray for forgiveness and repent of their sins. Christians go away knowing that they have been forgiven, saved by grace, and the Lord loves them no matter what. He loves them enough that He died on the cross so that everyone could be
The word “Christian in the university’s name means a group of people that believe in one God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Accepting of any Christian denomination and teaches the word of God, as it is written in the bible. “So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The Christian faith focuses on the orientation of the human heart behind human thoughts and actions. Living by faith is a beautiful alternative to the way people think of themselves and the way they live in relation to others in their daily lives (Merrick, 2014). Christians see themselves in terms of God’s profound love for them but not in terms of what they do. The teachings of the Christian faith; nonviolence, non-retaliation, inward integrity, selflessness, and love your neighbor as yourself provide the framework for ethical thinking. Although, adopting belief in Christianity can bring forth confusion in the heart and mind causing agony of learning to sacrifice one’s rightful claims for personal justice for the restoration of another (Merrick, 2014). Unconditional forgiveness is difficult to understand because spiritual forgiveness and actual costly forgiveness is viewed as the same in the gospel. If you do not forgive, then one does not have faith in God’s forgiveness as it really is. Christianity influences a person thinking and behavior developing wisdom which requires faith. The faith that is needed to reorient the heart away from selfishness to selflessness.
As a Christian, one is led by the teachings in the Bible. By reading the Word of God, we are compelled to act in the ways we do. For example, one of the most known aspects of the Bible is the Ten Commandments. People of the Christian faith follow these commandments in order to live a righteous life. Yet, if you are familiar with those Ten Commandments, you know that saying grace or blessing a meal is not written in these.
In Christianity, the emphasis is placed on love of God rather than on obeying his will. People must believe that God is merciful and loves them as well. As a reflection of God’s love, people must also love other people (and the whole humanity in general) and forgive their enemies.
“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. God himself will be with them as their God” (Revelation 21:3). The most confusing part of Christianity is the Trinity. Understanding God in three persons is difficult. He is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Humanity is to trust in the Father’s providential care; trust in the Son 's forgiving, justifying work; and trust in the Spirit 's comfort and witness to the truth of the Word (Johnson, 2014). Christianity will therefore change the way a person thinks and behaves. To live for Christ and have the Holy Spirit means that one dies to themselves. Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians
How a person views the world depends on their culture, education and knowledge. Some are atheist, others believe in heaven and hell, and then there are those who are trying to find their faith. Each religion has their own way of accepting new individuals who just found or changed their belief. In Christianity, upon birth or acceptance of Jesus Christ as one’s faith, Christians perform an initiation ritual called Baptism.

Christianity was one of the fastest spreading religions of its time. From the first century, Christians have claimed that the world was uniquely prepared for the coming of Jesus Christ and the birth of Christianity. To be a Christian during the time of the fall of the Roman Empire would not be a delightful time to live. Christians dedicated their lives, minds, hearts and souls to God, and by doing so were often persecuted. After the death of Jesus is when Christianity began to grow rapidly. Ideally, according to the Christian view, Christianity is to believe in Jesus even when he is not visible. In other words, Christians walk by faith and not by sight. Furthermore, Christianity involves consistency of morality which entails features that requires people to be honest and truthful in all areas in life. Overall, the emergence of Christianity was concerned with a spiritual, not earthly kingdom.
A value Christians must follow is to not be self-righteous yet that is what the majority of Christian religions do. They do their best and try and get people in the church while young claiming that is the best and only real religion that should be followed. There is no argument as to which church is better and there should not be such an argument as religion should not be involved in such foolery, yet people of Christian faith still take part in this act despite it being the opposite of what Jesus had put forward. People of the catholic religion believe sin causes spiritual penalties, and not all of these penalties are removed even if the guilt of a sin has been forgiven yet this is the exact opposite of what Jesus preaches. Jesus says that once one apologises for his sins and stops that of which he sinned, he is forgiven.
That is, some Christians put a higher priority on themselves over others. These Christians are those that seek out things that will benefit them and likely will not participate as greatly into things if they get nothing out of it. These are the types of Christians that always want something in return. The ones that will not do something unless there is something in it for them. This is even apparent in many Christian friendships.
Christians should love their neighbor as they love themselves. Characteristics of loving your neighbor means helping them instead of putting them down, not being deceptive in dealings, not robbing or mistreating others and also not seeking revenge and holding grudges. Presenting these things will show true christian character and that they love their neighbor the way God loves everyone. In loving their neighbour they should also not judge them. Christians should see one another as unique and beautiful, the way God sees everyone.

Saying you’re a Christian is the easiest part, but having a strong relationship with our heavenly father is not easy. You must spend time everyday getting into the word, and learning more and more about God. The more you learn and talk to God, the stronger your relationship will be.
