Pratik Khanal Susan Doody ENG 111/4146 February 17, 2014 Definition Essay What Defines Me? Earth is populated by billions of people – one person different from the next. While physical traits like fingerprints and DNA give people their individual identity, there is more to identity than physical traits. The experience of tragedy and joy also plays a critical role in giving people their individual identity. Personality is the other factor that separates one person from others, and the personality of an individual depends heavily on his or her beliefs, culture, and the environment in which he or she is raised. There are several different types of personality tests that one can take to identify certain traits of his or her identity, and one of them is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). According to MBTI and my life experience, as an ISTP I possess an inquisitive mind, an adventuresome spirit, and a desire to be active. For as long as I can remember, I have been curious about almost everything. This curiosity of mine has led me to unravel the mystery of how things work and how they are formed. According to BSM Consulting, author of High-Level Description of the Sixteen Personality Types “The Mechanic,” “ISTPs have a compelling drive to understand the way things work and they like to take things apart and see the way they work” (BMS, “The Mechanic” par.2). One day, when I was about fourteen, I was microwaving popcorn. While waiting for the kernels to pop, I began to wonder about the components required to build a microwave oven and how those components work. I found a screwdriver and systematically began to take apart the microwave. Inside, along with numerous tubes and wires, was the heart of the oven: the magnetron. The ... ... middle of paper ... ...to be up and about, doing things” (BMS, “The Mechanic” par.6). I cannot think of a situation where I have nothing to do because I am always keeping or trying to keep myself active. Each individual in this world has a distinctive identity. Even twins and triplets, who appear to be similar in their physical traits, have separate individual identities. After taking the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, I was able to affirm some of my specific personality traits that define me. I am active and curious and I never tire of adventure. I enjoy every bit of my life. Until now, I have discovered just a portion of my specific identity, but I will reveal the mystery of my identity in this exciting and adventurous journey of my life.
