1. The show that I saw was Big Fish by John August. I saw it at the Hale Centre Theatre on November 27th, 2015. The show was two hours and fifteen minutes long. 2. The show that I am going to compare Big Fish to is New Girl. I am going to compare to the whole series of New Girl. I think these two shows have an overall tone that is similar. They are both about family, close friends, and trying to get by. Big Fish is all about Edward Bloom and him trying to convince his son that he needs to live a happier life. Edward goes through many trials in his life and makes some very close friends, including the circus owner. The circus owner tells Edward that if he works for him for free, he will give him one hint per month as to where the love of his …show more content…
life is. Edward works really hard and eventually finds her. But the more important part is how Edward makes the circus owner feel comfortable with being a werewolf. The circus owner finally accepts himself and they become lifelong friends. When comparing this to New Girl, I think of Nick and Winston. Winston was a popular basketball player and Nick was a weird college guy. Winston and Nick became friends. Winston accepted him for who he was and they also became lifelong friends. I think that the entire Big Fish was about how much of an impact Edward had on these people's lives and New Girl is kind of the same way with all of the characters. 3.
I think that the biggest difference between these shows would be the realism. Big Fish is very out there and New Girl is a more realistic show. Big Fish has many examples that seem crazy such as Carl the giant, the witch, or the circus owner/ werewolf. New Girl is obviously more realistic and it demonstrates some of the struggles that regular people go through in real life. The reason that I mentioned this particular difference is because it alters the way that I watch the show. I take things in differently when I can look at it as realistic. That doesn't mean that I didn't relate to things in Big Fish, I just watch things differently based on how they are portrayed. Another difference between these shows is Big Fish had a more immediate family connection than New Girl does. Big Fish's main story plot is about Edward and Will Bloom. They are a father and son. New Girl's plot is mainly based around …show more content…
friendships. 4.
I am going to compare Edward Bloom to Jessica Day. These two characters are pretty similar in my opinion. I feel like both of their main objectives in life is to make people happy and avoid conflict. In Big Fish Edward is always smiling and trying to spread good vibes. He always tries to make the best of his situations. One example is how he goes and talks to Carl the giant, rather than trying to kill him like the rest of the town wants to do. A good example of Jess doing this is after Cece breaks up with Schmidt, Jess is there to console her. She tries to have a slumber party with her like they did when they were little. I think that one way that these two differ is their goals in life. Edward seemed to always being trying to be the biggest and best at everything he did. Jess seems to be a lot more mellow with things. She is happy teaching children and trying to make them the best they can be. They both accomplish their goals in different ways. Edward accomplishes them at the end of the play and that is it. Since New Girl is a series, sometimes Jess succeeds and other times she does not. I think the biggest obstacle that Edward faces is his son. Will never believes Edward. Edward is trying the entire play to convince his son he is a good and honest person. He does convince him in the end. An obstacle that Jess faces is her emotions. She is a very emotional person and sometimes that gets the best of
her. 5. Big Fish had a lot of songs to explain the story. New Girl's language is more traditional. I think that the songs in Big Fish made me feel more emotions as I watched the show, but I think I follow the story better when they are speaking. Big Fish is in a pretty recent setting so I didn't have trouble not understanding the language. New Girl is just regular language, so I understand that pretty well. 6. I think the overall purpose of Big Fish was to demonstrate important values in life, such as friendship, love, and family. Big Fish showed that your actions can have a lasting impact on somebody and how that can be used in a good way. I think the overall purpose of New Girl is to show how important friendship and being there for somebody is. Although the show is meant to be a comedy, I think that New Girl shows some important qualities when it comes to friendship. They joke around a lot but in the end they will always be there for each other when they need it the most. I think the writer of Big Fish wanted you to respond with an idea that we should be spending time with our families and making the most of it. I don't want to spoil the show for you if you haven't seen it, but it definitely made me think about my relationship with my dad and how I should value it. I think the writer of New Girl wants you to respond with happiness. The show is a comedy and I think the writers overall goal is to make people laugh and be happy. Both of these writers accomplish these goals in my opinion. 7. My enjoyment of Big Fish was actually pretty high. I wasn't too excited to see it. During the show I was zoned in on it and afterwards I felt a lot of emotions. My enjoyment of New Girl is very high. It is my favorite comedy. I think the live nature of the play added to my experience. When I watch a TV show I find myself not completely paying attention. I can text, go on Facebook, or even fall asleep. When I am at a live show like that, I often find myself sucked in to the show and paying complete attention to it. 8. The ending of the play was honestly my favorite part. The whole show revolves around the idea that the witch told Edward Bloom how he was going to die and how he was going to live his life to the fullest. The ending was so effective for me because he had his entire family and all of his friends there with him. They were all telling him how big of an impact he had on their lives and how he was a really good person. I also really liked the ending because it was such a collaborative effort from all of the actors in the show. It was a big song number and honestly made me tear up a little bit. New Girl seems to be more on the side where the story lines carry over week to week. Although the episodes have little plots in each episode, the main plot carries over. I prefer a television show where the story line carries over from week to week. I prefer this because I like the " big " ideas behind shows. Like in Lost, I was drawn in to the mysterious features of the island. Or in New Girl, I want to see what happens with Nick and Jess. I think these big ideas click more when they are being built up from week to week.
By definition, feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights - equality with men. The idea that women are inferior to men has been around since biblical times, and somewhat still is. Feminism is still an issue in today’s ever-changing society. There are still wage differences, occupational restrictions, and social expectations that men do not have. Two movies I feel display feminism through friendship are Steel Magnolias and Fried Green Tomatoes. Although Fried Green Tomatoes has an engaging plot, Steel Magnolias has incredible chemistry between characters, as well as witty dialogue.
The play I went to see was The Music Man performed by the Mesa Encore Theatre at the Mesa Community College. I saw this performance on November 20th. The main performers in this play were Zac Bushman as Harold Hill and Lauren Koeritzer as Marian Paroo. Alongside them, a mix of both adults and children as young as 8 acted in this production. The cast and crew used appropriate clothing to match the time and place. Lights were utilized scarcely, with not much more than spotlights or front and back lights. The set was extravagant, cute, and fitting for the setting and time. Overall, this musical was vibrantly performed and left me with positive impressions regarding presentation and production.
The stories of each fish flow together as each story shows how humans have pushed to gain more control over the ocean and the delicious animals that swim in it’s depths. Greenberg starts in the free-flowing rivers where salmon are commonly found. It is there that early humans of the Northern Hemisphere most likely began their infatuation with fish. Greenberg puts it as, “It(salmon) is representative of the first wave of human exploitation..” (170) Once Europeans learned to fish, they had the ability to fish in shallow ocean water which is where sea bass are usually found. Later, fishermen s...
The live theatrical production I chose to see was 9 to 5 The Musical. The production was performed by Fayetteville Technical Community College’s very own Fine Arts Department. The musical is based on the film released by Fox in 1980. Collin Higgins adapted the film from the book 9 to 5 written by Patricia Resnick. It wasn’t until 2008 that the film was adapted to a theatrical production. The production was originally brought to broadway by Robert Greenbait and Dolly Parton wrote the lyrics and the music for the Musical. The run on broadway was very short but the production later toured in other countries around the around the world.

Along with each character’s similar attributes, the relationships they both have with their husbands are comparable. Zeena Frome and Elizabeth proctor share many characteristics and relationships through each story, showing how similar each works of literature are alike. Over the two stories previously mentioned there are many similarities and are strongly comparable through each character, which can be found looking at various pieces of
Shakespeare’s play ‘Much Ado about Nothing’ has two main female characters, Beatrice and Hero, who are cousins. Both appear to be completely different in the beginning of the play but, as things progress and their characters develop, there are also some very obvious similarities between them. Hero and Beatrice have a very close relationship; they are best friends. Leonato is Hero’s father but Beatrice has no parents, which gives her greater freedom. Where Hero is polite, quiet, respectful and gentle, Beatrice is feisty, cynical, witty, and sharp.
D.L.O musical theatre presents Big Fish on April 25 & 26, 2015 at DHS Dick Van Dyke Auditorium. Magical realism is a branch of fiction that is neither fantasy or escapist, like most or all fiction pieces it holds truth yet elements that do in fact make it fictional. These elements blend the magical elements seamlessly making them seem ordinary or realistic. These elements can be anything from mythical creatures to time being warped and are conveyed through characters, setting, and literary devices.
I can honestly say I like them both a whole lot. However, I like the music in Grease a lot better. The music style is so much catchier than the songs in Annie. The character development in Grease was much better than the character development in Annie. Danny and Sandy changed to be with each other, which also plays into the theme of the movie, identity. In Annie, not many people changed, except Daddy Warbucks. He was completely against the idea of having an orphan in his house, let alone a girl orphan! Another reason I liked Grease better was because of the plot. The plot was more interesting than Annie’s plot, for it had more things going on throughout the entire
Waterworld takes place on the ocean but, Stagecoach is the complete opposite. In Stagecoach, they travel across the desert pretty much. Both are harsh environments filled with dangerous animals and bandits. Ringo and the stagecoach are attacked by the Geronimo’s people but, in Waterworld, they are constantly being chased by smokers. The bandit type character plays a big role in these two movies. Although the smokers have a different reason for harassing people. Geronimo’s soldiers are just trying to kill them without really wanting anything for them. They are not trying to steal something like the smokers are. All the smokers want is the little kid because she has the map to Dryland.
In the novel Big Fish by Daniel Wallace, we are told the story of Edward Bloom, a man of many adventures, who is somewhat of a myth. Big Fish is a collection of the tall tales Edward tells his son about his life, and also of the effect his tales had on his son. The novel comes from an American author from Alabama, while the movie comes from Hollywood and is directed by Tim Burton, who is also American. This story is not an ancient sacred text, so the story’s function(s) is to entertain and to make money.
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley was written in the 1930s before the World War II occurs. Although he was British, Huxley experienced totalitarian system in Nazi and the Soviet Union and viewed the flaws of totalitarian. The industrial revolution, which caused technological progress and build assembly line, affected his novel. Ken Kesey, the writer of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, is a member of the beat generation. In his generation, people started to disobey the social order that represses to be same and equal, which is called counter-culture Affected by the movement, literature writers started to write works that go against the society. Both works depict the physical, psychological, and political violence in order to criticize the society
Finding Dory, the newest Disney Pixar movie and the sequel to Finding Nemo, features our favorite Disney Fish, Dory, Marlin, and Nemo. Dory, a blue tang, and defined by her blue body and yellow stripe, suffers from short term memory loss. She meets Marlin, on his quest to find Nemo, after he gets taken by a scuba diver. Marlin is a clownfish, who is very overprotective over his son Nemo, after the rest of his family was killed. Nemo on the other hand, loves adventure, which comes from his father being overprotective. Dory meets new friends like Destiny, Dory’s old “pipe-pal”, and Hank, an octopus scared of humans on her journey to find her parents.
2. The performance I went to see was known as Rooted, a one-man performance by Tim Miller. The show focuses on Miller’s life as an openly gay
