Have we ever thought about what is the secret behind our food? Growing our own food and eating locally are an advance way for people to achieve their healthier and longer life. Back to the history time, most of the food were grown at the ecologically ways. The Native Americans also got the food for their family by hunting, fishing, gathering, and farming. At the present time, most of people are less likely to get their food at the traditional ways. People more depend on the industrial food and fast food. We should grow food naturally and eat locally because it is less harmful to the environment, is healthier, and the economy benefits from the community. We pay attention to the travel miles which links up with broader concerns about the release of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases to fossil fuel based on transportation. Next, we should grow our own food, so we can decrease the pesticide issue that can harm our environment. If we just depend on the industrial farm, our environment will be more damaged. Michael Pollan mentions, “On the industrial farm, it takes about ten calories of fossil fuel energy to produce one calorie of food energy” (32).Based on the information from Pollan, we can imagine how numerous of the fossil fuel that the industrial farm need for everyday. People need more than one calorie per day. If we estimate that each person needs a hundred of calories, then the industrial farm needs thousand of fossil fuel energy. That huge amount of fossil fuel can absolutely change our environment. The fossil fuel can increase the gases in the atmosphere; it makes the earth heat up which can cause global warming.
