Waking up at 6 maybe even earlier is hard, I know trust me. Yes it would be nice to roll out around 10. However that’s not the case is it? All high school students can relate that early mornings can be a pain. I know I can. But we also have it nice because we get home early and have a hour before our siblings show up from school. And before our parents come home yelling at us to finish the dishes. Nice isn’t it? There’s a problem with the early times. That there’s no productivity from the students in the mornings. Our brains don’t awake until 10 am. Leaving us all half asleep and not focused as we would going to school later in the mornings.
Waking up early at 6:00 A.M in the morning isn’t the funniest thing to do. The times on when school starts should be changed to a later time. Schools should change start times to later there is even factual evidence that this is true. In the article ‘The Teen Who Woke Up Her School’ by Jane Bianchi wrote about a teen named Jilly Dos Santos who put hard work into petitions and powerpoints to show how more sleep can better not only her but other people on school work and sports. People need more sleep to function and get through the day and to be more alert about things around them.Evidence from scientist and from teens show that people work better when they have more energy and got a good night's rest and when students don’t they sometimes start
When in the course of human events, students should be entering school a little bit later than the usual. This will give the student more sleep time which then will allow the student to think better when in school. This will also help a student be fully awake and not be sleeping in class. Students will pay more attention and will be ready to learn. Waking up early and going to school early makes a student be sleepy in class. We the students should be getting a later start in school.
This leaves students with less than the recommended 9 hours of sleep. Students that have to stay up that late for homework will be tired in the morning, even if their school starts later. Many people argue that starting schools later will let students get more sleep and align with the students sleep cycles. But they do not factor in that students will just stay up later at night because they know that they do not have to get up as early in the morning. This will just leave students with less sleep than before.
Students may need to nap to compensate for energy expended throughout the day. However, if schools were to start later, adolescents would not have to nap, allowing for a larger window of time to spend with their families after school, even with a later start time. Another opposing argument is that students would have less time to participate in extracurricular activities. However, this issue can be resolved by making practices for sports and club meetings shorter and more frequent to accommodate the schedule variation. Overall, the benefits of later start times far outweigh the drawbacks.
... Beginning high school an hour later might possibly make things a little easier. It is evident that it would improve health, if the students take advantage of the extra hour. But it could also improve grades, abilities and motivation. Beginning school later makes the difficult job of waking up in the morning effortless and enjoyable.
Another benefit of later school start times is health benefits for the students. Because of the hormonal
Kids and teen everywhere are rushed, stressed, and not doing as well in school because they aren't getting the right amount of sleep. About 40% of american high schools start classes before 8:00 am and more than 20% of middle schools start at 7:45 am or earlier. School start times should be later because teens need sleep and it improves their overall academic grades.
Studies have suggested that the average adolescent brain doesn’t even start to fully function until around 9:30 am. Many schools already use the suggested later arrival time, so students can be ready to learn when they arrive at school. Another thing that everyone knows or remembers about high school, school is all. of the homework that needs to be done for tomorrow. Plus projects that are due.
All or most of us have gone through it. The countless hours we spent filling out college applications, scholarship applications, visiting colleges, and taking the dreaded tests. Whether it was the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or other college entrance exams, it was a big hassle. After visiting such a great number of colleges, the advantages and disadvantages of the schools seemed to run together in my mind. The endless paper work and deadlines seemed as though they would never end. When I thought about college, it seemed like it was not real, like it was a figment of my imagination. I imagined what it would be like, wondering where I would go. The questions of "What did I want to major in?" and after I decided that, "What schools had my major?" circled around in my head. When filling out questionnaires for college searches I was asked about what size college I preferred, whether I wanted to be in a rural or suburban area. Did I really know how to answer these questions that would so greatly affect the next four years of my life?
Don't you hate waking up early for school in the morning? Most high school students wake up before the sun rises just to become ready for school. Teenage brains do not begin to function that early considering many are tired from staying up late the previous night. The National Sleep Foundation reported that most teens do not retain enough shuteye, one study found that only 15% reported sleeping eight 1/2 hours on school nights. That fact was extremely true for me when I attended high school. I barely was able to wake up, get dressed, and be in school on time since I was so tired. In my opinion school days should start later, precisely in between 9- 10 o'clock. If the school day started later attendance would improve, students will be more prepared, and student's attitudes and grades may improve.
All around the world, Teenage students are required to go to high school to prepare them for post secondary education or the workforce. However, the start time for high school usually start early in the morning. Forcing the teenagers to wake up early and to get ready for school. This makes it hard for teenagers to focus throughout the day at school because their brains are not fully functioning yet. This affects the students to fully understand and absorb the information that is being taught to them. School start times should start later so teenage students can fully understand the information they are being taught.
Many people are resistant to change, especially if it involves reassembling their plans and procedures to adjust to the new schedule. This is a problem for parents’ work schedules since they most likely will not be able to see their kids in the morning which will leave students unsupervised when they get ready. This is also a problem for transportation since parents will not be able to take their kids to school which might cause traffic and more costs since bus schedules would change too. According to the Sleep Foundation, "If elementary students have the earliest start times, they may be waiting for the bus in the dark early mornings, or waiting at home alone after school." Later start times are thought to solve tardies and absences, but if students cannot get to school, it does not solve anything. A change in the school schedule will result in disorder in many people’s daily routines perhaps having to discard certain activities to fully adjust to the new schedule. The changes caused by a new schedule affects students
School start times have been a discussion in many schools throughout the United States. Everyday, kids wake up tired and not ready for the day. Some students might even skip the day because they feel exhausted. If a test is in the morning, a student might perform worse because of the time of day, then in the afternoon, they would be awake and ready. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but the majority of kids do not have time in the morning due to the early start time. When most students wake up, they have to get ready, brush their teeth, and get to their ride. That is not possible if schools starts so early. The students would have to wake up at obscure times, not meeting the standard hours of sleep that they need. The bus system at the moment does not save money. A new bus system with the one hour later start time saves the school money and leaves more for other school
I feel that the classes and professors that are offered in the morning compared to the classes and professors at night are a huge difference. At night there is not a big variety of professors or classes for students to take, therefore they tend to choose the early morning classes because there are better times and professors offered at those times. Due to the fact that students want to take these early morning classes the traffic and parking is absurd. “ I have to hunt people down and follow them to their cars just to ask them if they are leaving to get their spots. Pretty embarrassing if you ask me,” says Kaila Kreuzburg a 18-year-old freshman at the Lake Worth
I’m pretty sure most students hate getting up super early in the morning to go to class. I think that it is just the worst thing ever! Starting later in the day seems to provide a more awake environment for students. The ones who are awake are more likely to succeed, while in the first couple of early morning classes and students are sleepy and not really learning. In my opinion I think that morning classes are a bad idea. Early classes can have a negative effect on the students’ academic performance. I like to think that going to later classes are better for one’s health, for the students’ concentration in class and it also makes things more convenient.
