Culture allows individuals to share a system of symbols and meanings (Geertz, 1973). If people understand these meanings and use them to function in a society, it can be said that they belong to the same culture. Journalist Walter Lippmann (1913/1962) extended the concept of culture, he includes interests, and what people look up. He remarks that culture is the climate of civilization and it shapes the mind of a community. For that reason, all communities in the world have developed their own culture through time, and it can be implied that even a small group of people create traditions and rituals that make them create a micro-culture. Thus, teachers as leaders of a small learning community are in charge of controlling the environment of a classroom always pursuing the academic benefit and achievement of proficiency in all subjects of their pupils. Teachers and students share the same system; educators are under the standard I of ELA and Reading in charge of implementing instruction that has to be appropriate for each and at the same time appropriate to the grade level and the content of the curriculum implemented by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Vygotsky had its ideas about culture; his ideas were important because they helped educators understand the importance of inclusion of each students’ culture into the classroom. Students’ background will determine as well the abilities of students, parents’ level of education and origin will enhance students’ language skills or will limit them; once the students arrive at school if the teacher promotes the interaction within children through lesson activities that target the competence of language, students learn from other students. If the cultural diversity is promoted in the classroom by the educator, all the students’ cultures will be linked to the curriculum, and the language development plus a cultural enrichment will diminish the opportunity for students to fall
