Volleyball Camps/Tournaments It's my senior year and I am very excited for volleyball. We started volleyball camps in the beginning of July. We went to four tournaments and won three of them. Our team has stayed very positive throughout the whole summer season even though we are still missing some of our teammates. During July each Wednesday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm we would have different small schools from around our area come and scrimmage us. It was always exciting because we usually knew most of the girls whether they hated our team or not. We had twice as many girl as the teams we played but we still played multiple games. In the middle of July we got to go to the Otero Community College tournament that they had. The first day we took two separate vehicles …show more content…
Only so many players could fit in our coaches car so some of us had to ride up with our parents. We played multiple challenging teams but we still won the tournament. Our volleyball team put on a scrimmage for all the small schools around us to come to and play us and each other. Wiley and Holly came and we played them both twice and they played each other twice. Sometimes it got boring because we are way better than them so they could not even keep a game going. We did not really have a winner or a loser but if we would have we would have won. The last Volleyball tournament we went to was in Buena Vista, it was a two day camp. The Varsity team got to ride up in the RV with our coach, it was an exciting and new experience. Junior Varsity and Varsity got to go and play, the Varsity team played the first day and the Junior Varsity team got to go rafting. We made it to the championship but was not able to pull out the win. That night our whole team go to stay the night in the gym. We brought our own air mattresses even though we stayed up most of the night talking and telling
Hey, I’m Ashley Well, I am 21 years old, I majoring in Exercise science, I am senior in Lenoir-Rhyne University and I’m in our volleyball team.
Once again, the next year, I was on the All-Star team. This time we were all determined to stay in the tournament and win the championship. We started off lousy, though, making four errors in the first game and losing 4-0. We now had to win every game and beat the last team twice. We did defeat every team we went up against, including the team that beat us the first game, and once again ended up in the championship game.
All I remember was all the girls on my team screaming and running towards me. Luckily, I was at the right place at the right time and headed the ball into the net. I scored the winning goal and it felt amazing. We won the championship!
Volleyball represents my most meaningful commitment not just because I have invested so much into it, but also because it it’s a passion of mine and has been a part of my life since elementary school. The impact my coaches and teammates have had on my life has helped make me the confident and determined individual I am today. Volleyball also takes up a lot of time and there are many sacrifices that come with the sport and playing on a team. To keep up my skills, I have had to give up a lot of my free time and parts of my summer. Balancing school with practices was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. (148)
All throughout high school I played on the softball team. Proceeding the season before where we went undefeated with a district championship, my senior year we were supposed to be unstoppable. We received a few new players to add on to our army and the entire school was counting on our run to state. I was so excited to have an amazing end to my high school softball career, but unfortunately my dream was cut short when we lost in the first round of districts. I did not know that loss would change me the way it did.
The second year of the competition, I was only one of two returning students. I took an active role in recruiting new students, and our membership doubled. It was a complete role reversal for me because all of a sudden I was the experienced team member. We finished fifth out of forty teams at the regional competition, and at the national tournament, we placed in the top third.
The time on the clock was 4:30 when the doorbell rang, fifteen minutes early. My three teamates were extremely anxious to get to the Center. I opened the front door and to my surprise the whole team was outside in their cars. They were all spiffed up in their shirts and ties, determined to win the game. As I threw my equipment in my friends car I was hoping that the next time I put it in there I would have a championship medal hanging around my neck.
About a week after my first day we had to go and hang out and play games all day with these people from Jacksonville call the Jacksonville Jaycees. We played a lot of team games that we played like football, handball, and we even played some relay races my team was winning in all of our games. But then for the last event before lunch and before the jaycees had to leave and go back to Jacksonville sorry off topic but the last event was a
baseball tournament for the second summer in a row, learning multiple lessons on life and
Ohio Lightning, a travel softball organization, decided one year to make a third team for one age group. My team, Ohio Lightning 12U White was born. We were not at all good when we started out, and everyone knew it. Our team was counted out from the very beginning. However, we used tools that are now my laws of life to overcome all of our challenges and prove all those who doubted us wrong.
...ssey of the Mind for four years now and have won several awards. In 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade our team has one 1st place at the Thomas Jefferson Invitational Spontaneous competition. In 5th grade we one 3rd place at regionals, in 6th grade we won 2nd, in 7th grade we one 1st at regionals, advanced to states where we won 1st, and eventually won 10th place at worlds (out of about 60 teams.) We have not competed yet this year but hopefully we will do well.
Equipped with the most freshmen that the team has ever seen, 13, the team’s first week of practice was one of exploration and experimentation. “When we first came into the gym I had no idea what to expect,” Jones said, “because last year we graduated nine girls and we had four girls move on to play at division I schools, and so coming in with a whole brand new group it's stressful and scary.”
I had never really been a part of a team that had a chance to win something, but the potential was always there. I finally got my chance to be a part of such a team my sophomore year of track. Mr. Jones, the head track coach, had decided to experiment with some different races to gain more team points. Since the girls' team lacked a medley relay, he placed Cindy, Kim, Susan and I in those spots. Cindy would run the 400, Kim would run the 200, and Susan and I would start the race off by each running the 100. We all had worked viciously to earn those spots by running off against our teammates.
The girls had great game the other day against Wyndcroft, and I could not be more proud! They pushed and played really hard in practice the day before which I think really helped them out at the game. I hope the hard work continues!
It was November 1st and it was the day of my last volleyball game. I ran into my friend Eri and we started talking about the game later that day. It was against Tunkhannock. They were the best volleyball team from our area, and wouldn’t you know it on our senior night we had to play against them. Senior night was the one night where the seniors were recognized, whether they were good or not. The whole day the team was joking about how much we would lose by against our rival team. In a game to fifteen we thought we would end up owing them points.
