CCC Volleyball Team Prepares for Upcoming Season As summer comes to an end, the Lady Trojan volleyball team is gearing up to begin their fall season. Jam packed from August to October, the Lady Trojans schedule is loaded with 24 different play dates for tournaments and matches. Luckily, the team has been granted an extra week of preparation before the madness begins, as classes are commencing on the 21st this year, a week later than usual. Taking advantage of the additional preseason time, head coach Carey Jones has been running her team through a rigorous practice schedule since the 1st of August. “We’ve typically been practicing twice a day for about two and a half hours per session. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we also lift before morning practice,” Jones said. Equipped with the most freshmen that the team has ever seen, 13, the team’s first week of practice was one of exploration and experimentation. “When we first came into the gym I had no idea what to expect,” Jones said, “because last year we graduated nine girls and we had four girls move on to play at division I schools, and so coming in with a whole brand new group it's stressful and scary.” …show more content…
This is due to the leadership from more experienced players and outstanding freshman in practice. “What makes me feel good about this group is that we are returning our starting setter, who was ranked in the top of the nation and who is an all conference kid. I’m really excited about the leadership that our three sophomores bring. They are very positive but they also have high expectations,” Jones said. Jones also stated that her freshman players have played at high levels of the game and are more athletic than any other group that she’s seen. “We are able to have a lot more fun and get through things much
“Everybody wants this thing to be successful, and they have just been waiting for something to happen for such a long time,” Hoyt said. “For a long time Columbia basketball was more of an afterthought. Now, it 's more like, I can 't wait for winter we can go watch some games. It 's going to be like that this year with the guys we are bringing in.”

This tournament, apart from entertaining students and other fans, highlights what stuff different colleges are made of. This comes at a critical time when high school seniors are considering what colleges to attend once they graduate. Thus, it is not surprising that this package of sporting events brings glad tidings to the people as it helps usher-in the beautiful spring season. However, a critical evaluation of the different teams and schools reveal the series of events -both good and not so good- that occur as they prepare for this all-important tournament.
The team has become united and they continue to win their way through. They even had their own special warm up before the games started. The school also has become more united after the winning streak of the football players.
To begin the season, 12 of the Bulldogs' starting 17 players were seniors. However, this team was comprised of 97 members, so there was a definite influence of youth. Therefore, Coach Ware depended on the leadership of his seniors to impact his team
It’s finally here. Citizens of Southold, it is time to put the sleds, snow-shovels, and ugly sweaters away for next winter, for Spring has finally sprung. Unfortunately, this is not entirely the case, as we have learned from an early-March 2-hour delay. However, it seems that some of our high school athletes have chosen to ignore those straggler snowstorms, for like a shadowless Punxsutawney Phil, Southold High School’s finest spring athletes have emerged from their hibernation dens to bring you, the average Southold sports fan, another exciting spring athletic season, with the Sentinel bringing you full coverage.
The OU men’s basketball team is a monochronic, masculine, collectivistic, and individualistic co-culture. They come together as a team, but each player has their own identity attached to this co-culture in their own way. One of the teammates, Bob, was kind enough to provide answers to a few questions that will bring a little more understanding to how the players view themselves within their co-culture. All of the members of this co-culture are college students at the University of Oklahoma and range from freshmen to seniors. It is a masculine co-culture because it is a men’s team.
As Paige and I walked across the field towards our team I felt euphoric. Four long years of work, sweat, and dedication had led up to this night. It was the perfect end to my senior year of softball. The scoreboard just beyond the mass of sweaty, screaming softball players read 15-0. This was the final score of the district championship game, a game my team had never won before. The applause and cheers of the fans echoed in my ears for hours afterward
I arrived at practice on time and that is when all of the running started. For what seemed like hours, we only sprinted down and back on the dek, until finally, it was over. All practices were like that though, and after a while, I was getting used to it. As for the people, the coaches were nice enough, and I met some of my best friends there. Michael, Julian, Marco, and Tyler were the first people who talked to me. I was still playing with Bill’s for local tournaments, but I was traveling with Penn Hills to places like New Jersey and Canada. Then one day, problems started arising. I was practicing with Penn Hills, preparing for a tournament in New Jersey, instead of going to Bill’s, and they started cutting my playing time. At that point I had to make a decision; Penn Hills, or Bill’s. I chose Penn Hills, and I do not regret it for a second. Later that season, we traveled to the New Jersey tournament and had a blast. In the hotel at night we would swim, play basketball, and relax in Michael’s room, only getting in a little bit of trouble.
Volleyball is one of the biggest team sports there are. It is big in the summer olympics and all around the world men and women play it every day. The game of volleyball was originally called “mintonette”, it was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895 at Springfield College in Massachusetts, they made it along with basketball. In 1957 volleyball was officially an Olympic sport, the first games were held in Tokyo 1964 and the first beach volleyball games were in 1996 Atlanta. In London 2012, USA got 12 silver medals. In the Olympics, the Soviet Union has won the most medals. The best country right now is Brazil, winning gold medals in London 2012. One of the best volleyball players from Minnesota right now is Tori Dixon who played for the Gophers
I also hope we can have our games more organized and fair. Last year when we played kickball it was not played fairly. The volleyball game was not either. I hope this year we can play kickball the way it is supposed to be played. I also hope the volleyball teams are

As the Tiger rolled around, there arose a question of whether or not to keep the team together or break it up and give the two seniors a chance to compete in other individual events at regionals. I actually didn't know about this possibility until about five minutes before the race began on Saturday. We were all huddled together preparing for the start. Jeremy came up to Rodney and me and told us that if we didn't do well the team might be dropped. Kicking our motivational drive into high, the four of us focused on only one thing: running the time we all knew we could. Getting into the blocks I felt more ready than ever. At the sound of the gun, I shot out of the blocks. I sprinted around the track, concentrating on making a great hand-off.

Volleyball today has little resemblance to its predecessors. The modern version of volleyball played today has changed so much compared to the original game. The rules and scoring systems have changed multiple times. Equipment and technique have changed a fair amount too. But one of the original ideas from William G. Morgan that has stood the tests of time, the original goal of the sport. The goal to have a sport for all ages that brings people together to have fun and exercise together.
