As companies expand globally, the use of Internet and web conferencing is growing significantly in order to conduct business. Virtual teams are more common in the workplace as businesses are not meeting face-to-face in order to maximize production. Employees are also in agreement that being virtual can make communication with their partners across the globe easier as well as continuing to be efficient in their roles.

As the Red Giant company says, they like to date a lot first before creating their virtual teams (Ferrazzi, 2013 December 18, para. 16). Both the company and the team members can appreciate this, since the company does want nothing else but success out of the team and the team members want to be able to work well with others. Knowing your workers and knowing what works and does not work will allow for a successful outcome. Employees that are virtual will need to be able to be self-sufficient and discipline as well as eager for success. Managers will need to monitor these select individuals to see how their performance is, whether it is declining or are they doing really well. Creating an open floor for feedback will allow all members to know how well are they adapting and also it will allow those that feel that this is not necessarily something they want to be a part of. It will allow for those individuals to speak up and be able to walk away without getting a negative evaluation. My team consists of four other people besides myself, Lauren Chojnaki, Alexa-Louise Patnode, and Jacobe Loewen, and Ryan Tyriver. Together, we are tasked with the mission to complete a stakeholder analysis regarding a specific organization and their structure. For this project to be completed successfully, it is important that all team members are able to cooperate with one another and are able to use their different strengths to create the best end product.
Yet, in a unique paradoxical way, the convenience of being able to avoid face to face interaction, or any means of transport, becomes inconvenient and sometimes ineffective due a phenomenon known as virtual distance (Lojeski & Reilly, 2007). While the dynamics of conducting business virtually present appealing opportunities in terms of staff flexibility, cost effectiveness and the elimination of geographical barriers (Pacuraru, 2012), virtual distance presents obstacles that leaders must strive, continuously, to overcome (Lojeski & Reilly, Traditional hierarchical companies are now flattening their leadership models to facilitate involvement of staff, throughout all levels within their organization (Gil-Estallo, Dolors, Aparicio-Valverde, Ferruz-Periz & Escardibul-Ferra, 2000). Technology advancement provides the mechanisms for this communication to occur in the form of emails, shared sites, instant messaging, teleconferencing and a host of other alternatives to face-to-face
The increasing number of knowledge intensive research and development companies have turned to virtual teams in the recent past in order for them to generate the greatest competitive advantage from limited resources and labor. The geographically distributed teams must communicate via technology, and this has grown in prevalence as compared to the traditional teams in which all members were collocated and communicate face to face. Thus many organizations turn to virtual teams to reduce operational costs, embracing faster problem solving and innovate.
People have been working in teams for centuries accomplishing various tasks very successfully. However, only recently scientific researches have been conducted on the matter of teams, teams' performance and effectiveness and the accomplishment of new projects by so-called high performance teams. Results of scientific researches have proved that a team is clearly distinguished from a simple group of people by means of certain characteristic features. Also, it has been found that working in teams allows people to fulfill certain projects faster and more effectively, however, it is only possible when the new projects have been carefully planned and structured in advance.

This paper will provide a hypothetical discussion of how each of the four “worldviews” (post-positivism, constructivism, advocacy/participatory, and pragmatism) might apply to the proposed study. It will refer to the topic paper developed during the class RSH9101B (Research Topic, Problem, Purpose, and Questions) with the assistance of Dr. Kenneth Gossett, class mentor. Research indicates virtual teams are becoming increasingly popular in organizations across the United States and the world (D’Souza & Colarelli, 2010; Rusman, van Bruggen, Sloep, & Koper, 2010). These teams vary in size, degree of geographic dispersion, prior shared work experience, nature of assignment, and expectations of a common future (Rusman et al., 2010). Although virtual teams have potential advantages like the removal of physical boundaries, the ability to form new partnerships, and optimization of competencies (Chinowsky & Rojas, 2003), they also introduce many challenges that may not be as prevalent in traditional teams.
In today’s virtual society our office experience is getting more and more dependent on cyber culture. Due to the increase in employees working at home, virtual offices have become a convenient way for staff, clients, educators, students and all other types of business people to stay connected. Teleconferencing, skyping, e-mails, and texting have become mainstream ways of conducting business so it seems pertinent that businesses learn to effectively create and conduct virtual teams.
