Virtual Reality
Imagine walking down a white sandy beach. The sand is warm between your toes and there is a light breeze that moves your hair. You look across the horizon at the bright warm sun, a little to bright you think as you squint. But the water before you is so clear, you can see small fish clear to the bottom. The water is cool and it feels refreshing as you let the waves crash gently at your feet. This place is beautiful and peaceful, but you realize your not alone. You look to your right and see a child and her mother splashing in the water. You can hear the child laughing and feel the rippling sensation in the water against your legs. The sun is getting a little warm as a small bead of sweat falls across your brow. You look onto the beach and see the white sand as it glistens from the sun. You look a little farther and see the towel and chair you left earlier. You marvel about what a beautiful day it is. Then, you sigh as you walk across the warm sand and it sticks to your wet feet, water is dripping off you, but you feel relaxed. You don't want to leave this beautiful place, but you realize your time is up. You feel a sharp tap on your shoulder and your helmet is slowly being removed from your head. Reality comes flooding back to you, gone is the white sandy beach and warm sun, but and in its place are the cold uninviting walls of the laboratory. The scientist smiles and asks how you enjoyed your experience.
What has just happened is the technology of the future called virtual reality. This is concept that allows one to think they are experiencing something through the use of the major senses. Virtual reality creates an imaginary image that allows for a sense of deception. Virtual reality takes place in many ...

...of funds. With further research and advancements comes the opportunity to entertain, train, as well as help people. Wouldn't we all like to experience a little vacation without the hassle of packing, flying or driving, and unpacking when we return. Instead we could relax and experience it without leaving the privacy of our own homes.

This chapter is composed of concepts that try to differentiate between reality and what is actually happening in your mind, and are we living in a matrix? The Vats and Demons idea creates a vivid
The Olympic boycott was the attempt to keep many nations out of the 1980 Moscow Olympics, in a movement to draw the Soviets out of the Afghanistan war. The U.S knew that if they could start a boycott that it would ripple through all the nations and they would all follow the boycott. The U.S. didn’t want the Olympics to come to an end, they were hoping to put Russia in a position where they would have to make the soviets pull out. If the Soviets didn’t withdraw from the war, then Moscow could be looking at major debts for the 1980 Olympics.
The archetypal hero’s journey starts in their ordinary world, where they are usually sheltered and safe, but an event that disrupts the hero’s society will prompt him to leave his world and start the journey. Diana, an example of an archetypal hero, felt as if she was personally obligated to go and help end the war, and by doing so she
The professionals in the panel made some great points throughout the video about substance abuse in adolescents, including the fact that substance abuse treatment can be difficult to incorporate into the primary health care system and substance abuse disorders are rarely recognized or prevented (Volkow, Janda, Nestler, & Levine, 2014). The advantage of using evidence-based practices in treating substance abuse disorders is that they focus on prevention as well as continued treatment after initial intervention. An example of this kind of EBP is called Behavioral Therapy for Adolescents and “according to research studies, this therapy helps adolescents become drug free and increases their ability to remain drug free after treatment ends” (Azrin, 1994). This evidence-based practice surrounds itself on the idea that by demonstrating desired behavior and consistently rewarding it incrementally, the unwanted behavior can be changed (Azrin, 1994). Activities within Behavioral Therapy for Adolescents “include fulfilling specific assignments, rehearsing desired behaviors, and recording and reviewing progress, with praise and privileges given for meeting assigned goals” (Azrin, 1994). This EBP, and EBP’s like it that focus on the mental and behavioral health of adolescent population, are used to treat substance abuse and dependence and have shown to be effective in research and community
Surrounded by a foggy white film, I tried to adjust my vision to see. Anything familiar would appease me at this point. Nonetheless, I did not see a thing. Am I dead?" I thought to myself. Can this possibly be what the afterlife is like? I began to feel very anxious. The dense mist totally consumed my body and mind. This was not what I planned for myself. My life was supposed to be filled with an array of happiness, love, wonderful sights, and the joy of watching my children grow. Where is my sanctuary? Last thing I remember was looking out of my window and seeing the serene sky. At the time, I assumed I would be joining those that I love so deeply. My assumption was dismissed by a glimmer of reflection on my life up to this point.
Augmented reality, is changing how we see the world. Augmented reality isn’t a new technology by any means. However, it is gaining popularity as the hardware and software that allows us to view our world through a new prospective becomes increasingly cheaper. As technology progresses, processers and circuits become smaller and smaller in size. Thus allowing for more capability from various forms of hardware like phones, computers, glasses, contacts, and even your car. All these devices have screens, or windows in which we look at our world, and with cleaver programs, software, and hardware, integrated into these modes which we view the world. The way which we see the world around us will forever change based on our own interests thanks to augmented reality. However, the question we have to ask ourselves is, is ability to overlay our world with whatever we please a good thing, or a bad thing?
With the advances in technology and the growth in understanding of the human brain, it seems that what was once thought to be only possible in science fiction could soon become reality. In the future, virtual reality will become more immersive and trick all your senses into believing the experience is real. Signals can be transmitted directly to a person’s brain which would allow them to see, hear or fell sensory input. This can be achieved through Brain-computer interface. (Grabianowski, n.d.).
But if we are looking for a more modern take on virtual reality we would start in the early 1800’s with a paint style called “Panoramic paintings”. So what are these and how do they relate to virtual reality. Well these paintings were made to fill a person’s field of vision, making them feel like they are at the historical event, scene, or battle they are looking at. (“History Of Virtual Reality”, 2017).
‘Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle’ are what a person chants if someone mentions the word recycling. Nicks J defines recycling as ‘[T]he processing of waste materials in order to make them reusable” (11). Individuals who recycle are not just throwing papers in green bins, or cans in blue; in fact, they are helping the environment more than they can imagine. People who want to preserve and protect their planet take the initiative to recycle waste materials. Rather than throwing away old plastic or glass bottles, aluminum cans, and certain types of paper, one can simply recycle them, and they will go through a cleaning and the remanufacturing process to be remade into a new usable item. There are many benefits of recycling, but a lot of people will argue against it. As Bauer, Mary states, “[Recycling] is a messy process That uses caustic chemicals and produces harmful byproducts and emissions” (12). Regardless, recycling programs have been implemented in many places such as California and Georgia and have been successful. Hence, individual’s states in the United States should make recycling mandatory because recycling will reduce E-Waste pollution, reduce waste, and benefit the economy.
Most people do not understand how a person become addicted to drugs. We tend to assume that is more an individual problem rather than a social problem. However, teen substance abuse is indeed a social problem considered a priority for the USA department of public health due to 9 out of 10 Americans with addictions started using drugs before the age 18 (CASA Columbia University). Similarly, 1 in 4 Americans with addictions started using the substance during their teenage years, which show a significant different with 1 in 25 Americans with addiction who started using at 21 or older (CASA, 2011).
The paradox of reality is constantly being altered by the minds of the public. Reality as a definition is "the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them." However, what is reality? Everyone has his or her own opinion and view of what is in front of them. The stories reviewed in this section are prime examples on how ones view can dramatically change the conditions they are surrounded with. Whether it is being trapped in their own state of mind or a personal reflection on another's life changing event. The reality of these situations is perceived differently and in some cases hard to piece together as to what is real and what is not.
The term Virtual Reality (VR) is used by many different people with many meanings. There are some people to whom VR is a specific collection of technologies, that is a Head Mounted Display, Glove Input Device and Audio. Some other people stretch the term to include conventional books, movies or pure fantasy and imagination. However, for purposes of this research, we restrict VR to computer mediated systems. We would define Virtual Reality as a way for humans to visualize, manipulate and interact with computers and extremely complex data.

...s this line of inquiry progresses, as new neural-imaging techniques, new technologies like virtual reality come to bear on this problem; we will likely lose certainty about what is right and wrong rather than gain it.” (Tucker, 2009)
Recycling is a balancing act for us, and our environment. Our views of recycling have altered a bit over the years.
