In the present time, video games make up a large part of many country’s cultures. Since the first video games produced on room-sized computers back in 19471, just what kind of things caused video games to evolve into the enormous industry of the 21st century? The advancement in video games can be largely attributed to improvements in technology, precedents set by certain integral video game companies, but was also set back by a crash in the market in 1983. The origin of video games can be traced back to labs in which the first computers would be, spanning across entire rooms. At the start, games were simple programs containing things like a single bouncing dot representing a ball that simply just bounces away.1 Such games could not be accessed …show more content…
One of those factors was the overabundance of different home gaming consoles.3 It would become confusing to people as there would be all kinds of games being sold for different consoles, each one only being compatible to certain consoles. Atari would release the Atari 5200, which was unable to play Atari 2600 games, and combined with faulty controls and overly complicated start up, it would be discontinued within just two years. Another factor in the decline of the gaming industry was the gradually dropping quality of games being produced.3 Due to the extremely high popularity of video games of the Golden Age, many companies chose quantity over quality when creating games, hoping to make some easy money. One game that many believe to be one of the largest sole causes of the crash of the gaming industry is the game E.T., based on the Spielberg movie that hit theaters around that time. The game ended up being a horrible flop, resulting in Atari burying enormous amounts of the E.T. cartridges in a desert in New Mexico.3 The state of of the video game industry would be to the point of video games threatening to fade away into obscurity until the late 80s with the arrival of one of the largest video game companies to

An examination of videogames in popular culture is a complicated one. There is a large debate as to what is the very first video game. The supposed earliest known video game was created by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann on a cathode ray tube in 1947. The game was a missile simulator similar to radar displays from World War II, and overlaid sheets of paper were used for targets since graphics were unknown at this time. On May 5, 1951, the NIMROD computer was presented in Britain. It used a panel of lights for its display and was used to play a game called “NIM”. Later, in 1952, Alexander S. Douglas made the first compu...
The documentary that I watched is named Mind Games: The Power of Video Gaming by filmmaker Ron Thomas featuring Brad Bushman, James Paul Gee, and Martin Burnbaum. Ron Thomas uses pathos, ethos and logos to explore the advantages and disadvantages of video gaming. I think the filmmaker succeeded in building a strong argument through his appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos. Ron conducts interviews with retro gamers and experts in psychology, linguistics and education.
Video games are a valuable part of the world today. They feed the minds of the creative and provoke the minds of the less creative. Violence, immersion, and an unusual setting are all qualities of a game that create an intense and memorable experience for the player. By demonstrating and improving upon the three qualities that were deemed necessary to create a good game, video games could amount to astonishing heights in the future and bring something new to the table that could surprise us all.

From Games like Asteroids that was made in 1979. With Asteroids being only a small program with some computations going on.

We are the first generation to grow up in a world full of computers. Everyone and their cousin has one. It is almost impossible to go on a vacation anymore without seeing a computer. Some hotels and cruise ships have public computers and even many planes have video game systems built into the back of every chair. With computers being so predominant in our daily lives, we must have some use for them. Many people use them for work and many for the internet, but an overwhelming amount use them to play games as well. Games as simple as solitaire, as fun as pinball, or as challenging as chess. These are simple games that almost anyone can pick up. You can teach your four year old child how to play solitaire before you even have to teach them to shuffle a deck of cards. The simplicity of being able to play a game on a computer and the advancements in technology creates a huge market for video games, and with this, much more in depth and advanced games are created. Such as games where you can charge onto Omaha Beach as a soldier in World War II, or you can live the life of a gangster and break every rule in the book, or you can build and then govern your own modern day city. These are just a few examples of what video game creators are offering people these days. Each of these games not only offers more in terms of how interactive they are, but they are also visually breath taking.
From the explanation given above on the video games it is becoming evident that the paper focuses on conveying some aspect about video games. Yes it does. The paper details out the evolution of video games as a part of technological innovation. The 47 year old video game has got more than 70 different video game consoles till now. Let us see what were the technologies opted by the video game industries and the reason, impact behind this evolution.
Video games in today’s society have become very popular. Every new game that comes out to be played and conquered by the average gamer has its own category. There are several other types of genres of games that people play but because of big hit titles and the new popular game systems like the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, people become more interested in a game that is well known than a game they have never even heard of before. Every game has its own storyline and own way of how it unfolds and where the game ends according to game play. Some of the biggest reasons people sway to certain genres of games is because of the game titles released under them and the demand of people who want a good game under that category. The top three most popular genres of games played today are shooters, action/adventure, and RPG’s or role-playing games.
The first video game console was invented by Ralph H Baer. He invented the brown box which featured seven games such as table tennis, volley ball, hand ball, soccer, golf, checkers and target shooting in 1968. It was later released in 1972 known as the odyssey gaming system. It costed just 100 dollars at that time.
Tung-Han Yeh (Eric) tsyeh@uci.edu Professor Crenshaw 3 November 1 Importance of Video Games In The Society Video games have offered the society a platform to interact with electronic devices through a visual user interface as a form of entertainment. Video games not only occupy our thoughts but also enhance our creativity in problem-solving. Video games have been designed to reflect on our lives in the community, but our society is concerned that innocent children will derive from violent games. This is a legitimate concern, but we cannot ignore the benefits of the contemporary interactive entertainment provided by the games.

Media technology tends to make its greatest advances by fulfilling the changing needs of consumers, as illustrated in the exponential increase we see in computer processing power every year. Many have argued that one of the driving forces behind this has been video games; a medium that requires more processing in terms of graphics and computational power than many other applications. Despite their impact on computer technology, and the pervasiveness they have in our culture, video games share much of the same stigma as television.
