Video Games are a rapidly growing industry; developers have increased along with it. Companies that put their full time and energy into the development and marketing of their games originally held dominion over the video game industry. However, this isn’t true today. Today, video games can be made by a couple of people in a basement of a house. This doesn’t mean that the quality of the game is any less impressive, which can happen obviously, all this means is that making and developing video games is more accessible to the open public and not just to large companies and corporations. Which, in and of itself, is a remarkable achievement. People can now make a game that they would want to see and play, and not have to wait for a company to hopefully make it, or something like it. The Video Game Industry is full of independent developers now. Developers such as: Red Barrel Studios, developers of Outlast. Frictional Games, developers of Amnesia: The Dark Descent Coffee Stain Studios, developers of Goat Simulator Bohemia Interactive, developers of DayZ Mojang, developers of Minecraft There are many more developers to list, both good and bad. These developers and companies I have listed were all originally a bunch of guys/girls that wanted to make a great game, this led them to where they are now. All of these companies are huge successes, as are their games. This shows that video games can be huge commercial successes without being marketed by huge companies like Activision and Electronic Arts. There are both good and bad things about people being able to develop their own games without a lot of help. The developers could put a lot of time and effort into making the “Perfect Game” or barely put any effort and try to sell the g... ... middle of paper ... ... game, but if you don’t have any marketing to get footage of your game out and amongst the general populace, your game will not be as popular as it should be. Marketing is very important. If you can’t make a trailer for a game look impressive, then the game itself wont look impressive. The populace is fickle; their minds easily drift from one topic to another. This is why Halo and Call of Duty are so popular, they don’t really change game wise, but they provide people with a basis of what a game should be. If it isn’t like Call of Duty, then it isn’t a First Person Shooter. This is a sad thing to type up. Video games are supposed to be made to provide entertainment for all kinds of people, because people like all kinds of games. This is why developing the right kind of game is so important, because without good developers, then there cant be a good gaming industry
Have you ever wondered how much money these guys make? Well let’s take Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. It took about 200 million dollars to produce and they sold 500 million dollars’ worth of copies. Take 500 million and subtract 200 million, 500 subtracted by 200 and that equals 300, and you get a profit of 300 million dollars! They made a lot of money and because of that they created a lot of other games.
67% of U.S. households play video games. In 2012 north of $20 billion was spent on video games, with the amount vastly increasing each year. The worldwide video game industry exceeds $76 billion. It has well surpassed the movie box office industry and is becoming a serious contender with the entire television/film industry. What started off as a diversion for the few has quickly sparked into a mass medium, helping people live, learn, work and of course, play (Galarneau). Video games are now more than just mere games; they hold large influences over society and are almost ever-present in the modern day. In Ernest Cline’s fiction novel, Ready Player One, the future is heavily intertwined with a virtual video game simulation called the OASIS. In the story, the
Instead of the franchises popularity having a positive impact, overtime, it infected the gaming market along with it’s consumers and developers such as Microsoft Game Studios and EA. It has become an aggrandized cancer on the face of video games everywhere, destroying franchises a...
There is a lot of lines of code in video games. There are teams of people who work on games now.
Video games have come a long way. They have evolved from the simple game of Pong into a complex, multi-platform, multi-genre, multi-billion dollar industry.

six years the very definition of gaming and gamers had radically changed, and it was precisely the change of these smartphones and social media gaming zones that were causing many industry analysts to generate interest in this 8th generation of consoles to be the last
In this meeting, Andrew Wong happily proclaims his love for video games. At 23 in the military, with his own house and eccentric personality, he plays every weekend. He’s even into comic books and all the latest hit TV shows—he enjoys the witty humor and is enticed by the creativity. “Nevertheless,” he says, “my best memories lie with video games.” As his fellow co-workers claim, he’s the ultimate nerd.
Asian countries have never been unfamiliar with gaming software. From the very beginning when Japanese companies developed various game councils, Asian countries, such as Hong Kong and Taiwan, became large markets for computer and video games. In addition to the spread of gaming system technology in Asia, countries like Taiwan, China, and South Korea that have abundant labor resources have developed sufficient, but inexpensive computer components and software in recent decades. Online games have existed in Asia since more than a decade ago, but did not come to the mainstream of software development until early 1997. Online games became mainstream with the introduction of the Internet café. Although some reports show that the appearance of Internet café and online games seems to promote the development of computer software design in Taiwan and increase the revenue for several computer component companies, it brings new social problems. There exists a management crisis of the cafés, and censorship or copyright problems with software. While the Taiwanese government is trying to eliminate the problems by putting more restraints on this modern business, it also has the dilemma not to violate people’s freedoms and rights. In this paper, I will first discuss Internet cafés in Taiwan and the famous (or infamous) online game known as “Heaven.” Then, I will present some ethical issues brought about by this new high-tech business and the opinions voiced regarding the pros and cons of the governmental regulations. Finally, I will also discuss my points of view concerning to this matter.
The year was 1980 and video games were growing wildly popular. Atari’s was growing huge with their atari 2600 and many other companies were also growing big, such as mattel with their intellivision and coleco with their colecovision. Home computers such the apple 2 and the commodore 64 were growing popular too with their video games and other uses. But soon other companies wanted to cash in on this video game boom. Other companies started releasing bunches of cheaply made games to get money.
Many people believe that video games change people and mislead them to do bad things, such as drugs and alcohol, but it is the opposite. Gaming prevents people from such acts and actually helps to keep them away from the substances. Lots of people, mainly parents, believe that video games harm people so they try to keep their children away from them. In reality, video games make your life better. Video games can provide many benefits to your lifestyle as “numerous academic studies indicate that playing video games has many psychological and even physical benefits” (Guarini). Gaming helps stimulate the brain and advances your problem solving abilities. There are disadvantages to gaming, which is true, but the amount of benefits outweigh them by far.
According to Newzoo the gaming industry grew 10.7% this past year and brought in 108.9 billion dollars in total revenue. Don’t let these numbers fool you however, as the gaming community is still a small, tightknit community that are both casual and avid fans of this newly formed take on a classic concept. Gaming as a whole is a place where anyone can escape their life and find a place where everyone is equal, and you are accepted not for what you do in real life, but for what you do in a virtual reality. I’ve only been playing video games for a few years now, but the time, effort, and memories that I have acquired from this great advancement in technology is what has kept me engaged, and what continues to draw me in and push to be better than ever both in game, and in my social life.
Game design, my whole life I have dreamed of doing this, being in the field of professional video game designing. Started off when I was a child, first favorites were Mario, sonic, streets of rage, and of course mega man. My past was so magnificent and I wouldn’t dare to change a thing about it, however, not that I have most of the necessary skills I plan on at long last creating my own games, making my dreams come to life. To get to this master plan I did some research and learning an unspeakable amount of knowledge attending ITT Technical institute. Skills I have learned so far are in adobe software which includes, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, premiere pro, Dreamweaver, and flash. I also know how to use 3D Autodesk Maya software and consider myself above average in it. Even so, I thought digging up more information would be very useful so I looked up some of my favorite companies and games DC Comics, Marvel, Capcom are the most popular and up to date futuristic game design in the future companies.
Diablo, Tomb Raider, Plants vs. Zombies, and Halo what do all of these games have in common? They are some of the most popular games or gaming franchises to show up over the last 20-25 years. Gaming is used as a way to lower stress levels by taking humans away from the brutality of reality. The future is changing in ways most can’t see, such as the use video games as a way to solve the world’s most urgent goals. Video games are also being used to show what will happen in the loss of resources used in everyday life. One of the more important things that video games are working on is to get players once again more involved in reality, rather than keeping players locked in their homes immersed in a fictional universe. Gaming, such a controversial topic, something the older generation thinks to be a waste of time, while the younger generation sees the effect that gaming can and will have on the future such as effects on vision, lengths of a latent period, abilities to rotate something that is 2-D and see it as 3-D.
In an industry that reaches far and wide across the world mobile video games are constantly changing, as are the markets they are in. The gaming industry makes billions of dollars per year, but a new division of that industry has lately experienced a growth on a large scale. The 2014 revenue for mobile game revenues was forecasted at approximately twenty-five billion dollars, a forecast that changed from an estimation from a few months prior at twenty-one point seven billion dollars. North American markets alone are expected to see a fifty-one percent growth per year and emerging markets in Southeast-Asia, shown by the graph to the left in Figure One,are showing eighty-six percent growth per year (Gaudios). These numbers show rapid growth unlike any other in a field previously dominated by PC and console gaming, it is also unknown as to how the growth of mobile games will hurt console and PC games. As more and more consumers download popular games people realize that mobile games are for all age groups, not just kids, and then the consumer can appreciate the detailed artworks and stories behind mobile games. Many consumers do not know the detailed work that goes into the development and marketing of mobile games.
