I certainly agree with your views on Verizon and being a corporation that keeps disaster preparedness as the forefront. The disaster recovery requisite for corporations like Verizon and other public service providers in the time of calamity is imperative for first responders, government agencies and other nonprofit organizations to provide the critical aide needed in the aftermath of a catastrophe (PR, 2014).
In attempted to over continued internet and cellular services after a natural disaster, Version created an operational department called the Crisis Response Fleet that has the ability to establish temporary services on either coast of the United States within 24 hours in the case of emergency. In 2012, in the wake of hurricane Sandy, Verizon
Verizon Wireless is a joint venture between Verizon Communications out of New Jersey and the European-owned telecommunications company "Vodafone." Verizon Wireless is a wireless communication carrier that operates in the continental United States. Currently, Verizon Wireless provides wireless communication services to over 60 million customers nationwide including customers in Hawaii and Alaska. Its products include wireless voice and data services using the largest wireless voice and data network in the United States. Cingular Wireless is currently the leading cellular carrier when it comes to amount of customers on its wireless network. However, as Verizon Wireless continues to grow its market share as the United States' second largest wireless carrier, it ranks number one in total revenue collected as well as how it is viewed by Wall Street. Verizon Wireless' strong market position, perception of quality, and its proportion of income has a strong competitive advantage that would allow a small price increase--making the demand inelastic, "quality demand stretches very little in response to price change" (McConnell et. al, 2004).

The National response plan outlines four key actions the disaster coordinator should take. They are gaining and maintaining situational awareness, activate and deploy key resources and capabilities, coordinating response actions and demobilizing. Throughout the response it is essential that responders have access to critical information. During the initial response effort the situation is will change rapidly. Situational awareness starts at the incident site. For this reason it is essential that decision makers have access to the right information at the right time. By establishing an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) all key responders are brought ...
The mission that Verizon Wireless pursues is as a leader in communications, Verizon's mission is to enable people and businesses to communicate with each other. We are also committed to providing full and open communication with our customers, employees and investors. That’s just the beginning on their home page. Verizon has other values like customers first because they are ultimately the people that make them. Integrity always at the heart of everything they do. Respect is the critical component at every level of business. Performance Excellent Verizon holds itself to high standard of performance. Accountability holds each other responsible. “Great Companies are judged by what they do, not by what they say” Verizon Wireless
Verizon and these other three companies make up the top four of cellular service providers. Verizon leads them all with the most subscribers, while AT&T is not too far behind. These companies put the most pressure on Verizon to keep their subscribers happy, because these companies are constantly coming out with new data plans and lower pricing to try to pull away subscribers from the other companies. Verizon’s biggest push to keep their subscribers and to gain new ones is by claiming that they have the strongest cellular network in America and by very aggressive advertising, especially through television commercials. Verizon tends to have more commercials on television than any other cellular service provider. Most notably the, ‘Can you hear me now’ person; however, Sprint has now hired this person for their own commercials. This has caused Verizon to star Jamie Foxx in most of their commercials now and the commercials have starred famous athletes, like LeBron James and J.J. Watt. Verizon has also just recently acquired Yahoo and the major substitute for them would be Google. Google is without a doubt the biggest search engine used today; thus, Verizon will have to find a niche to compete against Google. However, many people still use Yahoo as their email provider, but the key for Verizon will be to revitalize Yahoo’s search engine service. These are most of the main substitutes that
There are many prevalent threats that Verizon must account for going forward. These threats arise from competitors, technology, and even the government. From a competitor standpoint, Verizon must constantly maintain and upgrade its networks to compete in the telecommunication services market. On the national level it competes with companies such as AT&T and Sprint, while at the same time must be able to compete with local or regional carriers such as Bluegrass Cellular. At the national level, Verizon is lagging in price amongst some its competitors like T-Mobile. The result has been a reduction in service cost to be comparable to peer.
Group behavior in AT&T is of higher regard than some other companies. Verizon and AT&T are two of the largest land line and cellular phone companies in the world. Both have survived major changes and evolution in the communication industry, as well as endured fierce competition from other carriers, particularly in the wireless communication industry. AT&T corporate business has many different guidelines to follow. Not only the code of ethics (as seen below)
Even though there were many factors contributing to the Challenger disaster, the most important issue was the lack of an effective risk management plan. The factors leading to the Challenger disaster are:
Credibility: I choose to speak about the Red Cross, because they offer relief to people at times when they own almost nothing. I have never personally experienced any of their relief services, but according to the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters, 357 natural triggered disasters were registered in 2012. This shows that there is a great need for
... be fostered. Nevertheless, current coordination is not bad as the MTA is the overall umbrella agency that has coordinated diverse emergency response organizations in the city of New York. For instance, during the time of the blackout, diverse stakeholders shared information although communication systems were weak. The impact of the blackout on the transportation sector and health of New York City was severe and key lessons can be learnt. Learning from past experience such as the blackout in 2003 has been attested by Volpe (2004) who indicates that experience would help improve future emergency response. This can also help design effective emergency policies and plans. Personnel had previously become familiar with each other through day-to-day operations and joint terrorism exercises. However, further research is recommended to expound more on this issue in detail.
This paper will discuss the dynamics of the American Red Cross case and how it affected the ability to provide adequate emergency response to catastrophic events. Over 10 years, the American Red Cross has been implementing strategies to ensure that the organization is better equipped when dealing with disasters. Not only has the American Red Cross has been faced with so much negativity, the organization is fighting very hard to change the concepts of how the organization can rebound from such criticism.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is an organization of the United States Department of Homeland Security, initially formed by Presidential Reorganization Plan No. 3 of 1978 and applied by two Executive Orders on April 1, 1979. The initial first response to a disaster is the job of local emergency services with the nearby help of the surrounding sources. A major disaster can be a result of tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods. The event must be absolutely more than the state or local governments can handle alone. If confirmed, funding comes from the President's Disaster Relief Fund, managed by FEMA and the disaster aid programs of other joining federal agencies.
Conclusion Overall, the consequences of not having a Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan can become costly in the event of a disaster. Most companies will find themselves in financial disarray when having to rebuild and/or replace any portions of the IT infrastructure that were destroyed during a disaster event. Hence, companies invest in insurance to cover such costs; however, there must be a balance because even with insurance an organization may still incur high expenses. Having a good disaster recovery and business continuity plan will keep your company up and running through any kind of interruptions such as power failures, IT system crashes, natural or man-made disasters, supply chain/vendor problems and more.
Most health care providers currently utilize electronic health records (EHRs), or will in the coming future. Network collapses, glitches, power outages and flaws within the system all have the possibility of occurring. Due to the plethora of sensitive information contained within the health care field, health care providers need to form backup plans. These backup plans will serve as preventative measures in order to keep the integrity of the health care data intact. Therefore, contingency plans are a clear necessity within the field.
Social media has become both popular and crucial in crisis and emergency communications. Responders are not only communicating to their public through social media outlets, the public is communicating with each other, and with responders. Individuals are able to provide important information on disaster impacts, including location and imagery, using nothing more than a smartphone equipped with a camera and GPS locator. One particular technology from Ushahidi offers an interesting way for responders and affected individuals to communicate with one another in the course of a disaster response. The Ushahidi BRCK offers an application of technology that, while not originally designed for use in the emergency management field, has an application in the response to a disaster. This and other technologies contribute to the ever changing way responders and individuals communicate.
