Abstract
The cause of ValuJet flight 592 crash was that just before take-off expired chemical oxygen generators were mislabeled and placed in the cargo compartment. One of the generators accidentally activated and got hot. This caused other materials in the cargo compartment to burn and a fire started in the aircraft.
This research will show the law suits between SabretTech and ValuJet concerning the crash of flight 592. It will also partially discuss the lawsuits that came from the family of the passengers that died in ValuJet flight 592.

Prior to the crash of ValuJet 592 an aircraft landing gear collapsed. The FAA could have looked at the airlines hangar, aircrafts, training records and maintenance. The FAA did not do anything and even said that ValuJet is a carrier other airlines should model from. It was known that the FAA had problems with their regulations. In 1988 a DC-9 had a cargo compartment fire. This is the same type of aircraft as flight 592. The NTSB wanted the FAA to change and rewrite the regulations specifically for class D cargo hold. The NTSB wanted smoke detectors and fire suppression system installed to prevent an accident. By the time of flight 592’s accident the FAA had not made the change for class D cargo compartment that the NTSB was urging the FAA to do.
After the crash of ValuJet flight 592, ValuJet had many lawsuits. One in particular was one done by shareholders. The claim was that at the time of the incident ValuJet kept them in the dark about maintenance and regulatory compliance. Four shareholders were seeking compensation for damages. The lawsuit was filed in Fulton County, Georgia. Initially the air carrier tried to dismiss the claim, but AirTran ended up paying 5 million to the ValuJet shareholders.
