The name “Earth” has not been used in 50 years. The year is 3024, and what once was Earth is now Unicornlandia, a world ruled by Unicorns and girls. Males are banned from this utopia, so they have inhabited Jupiter. Women, who are now more empowered than ever since men left, created a way to produce Unicorns freely, using artificial materials that they created. The women also figured out a way to make artificial sperms so the world can repopulate after males were banned. Nobody speaks of men, in fears of bringing them back somehow. It was a wonderful and perfect world to all the women and girls, who now don’t have to confine to society’s standards, since there is no society that judges them. Aliens and extraterrestrials often come down to
this planet to learn about the women’s ways without men. All was well on this Utopia, until one woman made a big mistake. The woman’s name was Merve, but her name is not important. She was 9 months pregnant with her first child, and she had just put in maternity leave for her job as a mathematician. All was fine and normal with this, and she had her baby that week. The baby was born healthy, but something was a little off with it. The doctor didn’t know what to do, so she sent Merve off the next day with her baby. Merve noticed that something was off with the baby too, but she didn’t stress too much, since she was new to being a parent she thought it was normal. Merve started getting concerned with her baby, who she named Lilia,
The Bullfrog Valley gang was a notorious counterfeiting ring that operated in the wilderness of Pope County during the depression of the 1890’s.The gang’s origin and and methods were mysterious, but the New York Times reported ist demise on June 28, 1897.The remote valley, which follows Big Piney Creek from Long Pool to Booger Hollow, was named for Chief Bullfrog, a Cherokee Who, according to legend, settled there after his tribe’s forced removal from Georgia (the Trail of Tears by the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The Bullfrog Valley, an unincorporated community not typically recognized on current Arkansas state maps, is located along the Big Piney Creek near the community of Silex. According to Dumas, historically the
For years, I have been told that Lillian Handlan Lemp, better known as the Lavender Lady is one of the many ghosts of the Lemp Mansion. I had no reason to doubt this until I learned that Lillian never lived in the Lemp Mansion. When Lillian was married to William Lemp Jr, they lived in the in a penthouse on top of the Chase Park Plaza. After finding this out, I had to ask myself; “Why would the Lavender Lady haunt the Lemp Mansion if she never lived there?” I could only come to one conclusion, she doesn’t. If there is no reason, then the ghost everyone claims to see in the Lavender Suite cannot be the restless spirit of Lillian Handlan Lemp. I know this may be hard for some to accept, since so many psychics, paranormal investigators, and television shows have identified the ghost on the second floor as the Lavender Lady, but I still find it very hard to believe Lillian would haunt a home in which they never lived in. Lillian actually died in her apartment on Park Avenue in 1960.
The Lenape tribe is tribal community now mostly known as the Delaware Tribe of Indians and the Delaware Nation. They were also called Lenni Lenape. In their native language Lenni means genuine or real while Lenape means Indian or people (Waldman). The Lenape language was originally taken from an Algonquian language. However, the Lenape language was wiped out and currently there are very few Lenape Indians that are capable of speaking their native language fluently. There are currently very few Lenape Indians and most are located in Canada and parts of the United States. They were branched into several different clans. They lived mostly near rivers and were divided into three major clans. The first clan was the tukwsi-t or the wolf the second was the pukuwanku or the turtle and pele' which translates to turkey (Waldman). For thousands of years they lived peaceful lives and survived off of planting and hunting. Women were strongly valued in this tribe therefore they followed a matrilineal system. Everyone in the tribe had specific roles even the children. As the first European explorers arrived the tribe’s life shifted drastically. For the Lenape tribe the 1700s was a devastating time.
Gender role conflicts constantly place a role in our everyday life. For many years we have been living in a society where depending on our sexuality, we are judged and expected to behave and act certain way to fulfill the society’s gender stereotypes. The day we are born we are labeled as either a girl or boy and society identifies kids by what color they wear, pink is for girls and blue is for boys. Frequently, we heard the nurses in the Maternity facility saying things like, “Oh is a strong boy or is beautiful fragile princess.” Yet, not only in hospitals we heard this types of comments but we also see it on the media…
In 1943 the quintuplets left the only home they ever knew of “Quintland.” This year after a nine year battle their parents Oliva and Elzrie Dionne recovered custody of the quintuplets. On December 28, 1943 Dr. Allan Dafoe officially signed an agreement releasing himself as one of the quintuplet’s guardians. In the girls nine years at “Quintland” their parents had become infrequent visitors and were made unwelcome at the facility. In an interview in 1995 Cecile Dionne inquired that her mother, Elzire Dionne was, “afraid we loved the nurse more than her.” They didn’t know who their mother or father were they had become complete strangers in their years at “Quintland.” The quintuplets also had nine other siblings all by single births who they
Even though our country supports equality in gender, differences still exist. This issue of gender and sexuality of our society has had one of the biggest impacts in my life since I was raised with five brothers. Since birth, I was immediately perceived by my parents as my gender role of girl and daughter. My brothers were given action figures, cars, and guns to play with. I was given the traditional girl toys Barbies, baby dolls and kitchen sets. Of course, I enjoyed my traditional girl toys but it might have been nice to have a choice and be able to have the same toys as my brothers to play with. I eventually concluded that I should be satisfied with whatever toys were given to me by my parents.
Deborah Smyth Green is humble about receiving her “sash,” as she calls it. In June 2016, Deb was honored with an invitation to the Order of Vandalia, which recognizes supporters of West Virginia University. She was selected for her more than 30 years as a leader in the Chicago Metro Alumni Chapter of West Virginia University.
As meaning making creatures, humans attempt to categorize and definitively understand anything they observe. Although this crusade for understanding is not inherently bad, it often produces unintended negative consequences. As humans sort, classify, and define everything, they simultaneously place everything into a box that constricts creativity and fluidity. Concerning gender, these boxes create harmful conceptions of each person on the planet. Although these conceptions of gender are constructed and not “real” by any means, they have real implications in the process of socialization that influence how each person lives his/her life. In the United States, the commonly socialized “boxes” of gender have done a great
Gorsebrook park is a park off of Robie street that offers lots of activities and benefits to the community. It was built in the 1800s and renamed after Gorsebrook in 1824. (Landry,2005) The park comes with tennis courts, basketball court, ice hockey rink and tobogganing hills. It is a great place for walks and to play recreational supports for free, to anyone that visits the park. It is a large land mass and is covered mostly by grass along with a tree line across the sides. I chose the property because of the tennis courts and because I also did a previous assignment on the lot, where I had to volunteer to clean the park so I have sufficient knowledge of the park. Other than that, the park had all of the requirements for the assignment, so it was a good fit. Gorsebrook park has
The chant “Girls go to college to get more knowledge; boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider” is commonly recited on the elementary school playground. This sexist chant may seem silly, but elementary aged children are socialized to recognize and accept these roles in Western society. Children receive this socialization through their parents, peers, school, and the media. According to Wheiten et al., gender stereotypes are defined as, “widely shared beliefs about males’ and females’ abilities, personality traits, and social behavior” (Wheiten et al. 227). Girls are stereotypically known to be nurturing, caring, and artistic while boys are generally associated with aggression, assertiveness, and athleticism. Girls are typically given dolls,
Norms in society do not just come about randomly in one’s life, they start once a child is born. To emphasize, directly from infancy, children are being guided to norms due to their parents’ preferences and choices they create for them, whether it is playing with legos, or a doll house; gender classification begins in the womb. A prime example comes from a female author, Ev’Yan, of the book “Sex, love,Liberation,” who strongly expresses her feelings for feminism and the constant pressure to conform to gender. She stated that “From a very young age, I was taught consistently & subliminally about what it means to be a girl, to the point where it became second nature. The Disney films, fairy tales, & depictions of women in the media gave me a good definition of what femininity was. It also showed me what femininity wasn’t (Ev’Yan). She felt that society puts so much pressure on ourselves to be as close to our gender identities as possible, with no confusion; to prevent confusion, her mother always forced her to wear dresses. In her book, she expressed her opinion that her parents already knew her gender before she was born, allowing them t...
Early Camelot starts with Joseph of Arimathea. According to a Vugate story, he came to Britain and then to Camelot, finding it to be a Islamic city. It was the rightest of the Saracen cities that were in Great Britain. It was so important the kings we crowned there. Camelot was a mythical castled city that was said to be in Great Britain. Camelot was the center of the Kingdom of Logres and in the Arthurian legend. Camelot was said to be a city surrounded by forests and meadows with plenty of open space for knightly tournaments. Text says that Camelot was a “rich and well provided town” but offers few details as to its layout or exact size. Camelot saw its share of wars in the Vulgate stories. The city’s defences were formidable, surviving a war against the Saxons and another invasion in which the Saxons were aided by Cornishmen. “After the bridges were raised and the gates shut, they climbed high on the walls to see whether or not the Saxons were coming to storm the city, but the Saxons did not have the will,” reads a section of one story It was said to be small enough that during a particularly expensive court so many barons and nobles came.
To go into one of my first experience was going to a live basketball game, where everyone could see you on TV. I remember wearing a blue dress so representing the Orlando Magic. My boyfriend wore his Nike logo jacket which it said the magic Orlando. Therefore I only went to the basketball game because my boyfriend got 2 tickets and he brought me. It was a surprise to me because he blindfolded me at first then he took it off when he wanted to show me how the city looked. We walked in already all hyped to take pictures, I seen the polished floor where the team was going to play and it smelled clean and latex from the basketballs. Out of 18 years I have never been to any of this, it was at the Amway in Orlando so it’s very gigantic and loads
Gender has been a big part of our lives. Gender not only affects our jobs, schools, and passports, but it affects how we interact with people and how people interact with us. Gender affects our identity and expression. Gender is confused with biological sex, but the truth is gender is neither universal nor cultural. Gender is a classification relative to how one composes himself, and the requirement for a certain gender is subject to change over time. In the world that we live in, there are only two genders, a male and a female based on their biological sex; but what about the babies that are born with both genitals and no genital? Are they some kind of alien or just psychologically and medically ill? However, because we live in this society that only consists of binary gender, it’s very easy for people of both genitals or no genital to feel left out and not accepted since the majority of the world’s gender consists of either a penis or a vagina. The fact that we all live in this little box of a male and fema...
When we are born our sex determines how we will be treated and what we will achieve in our lifetime. Men and women in society are very different, women are seen as the minority and submissive to men in some cultures while men are viewed as the dominant force and the superior sex (Henslin, 2015, p.292). The way we view peoples sex can determine how they will be treated, how much they will prosper in life and even how society
