The lessons I’ve learned in UNI 220, have been paramount in my growth as a student. The class allowed for me to see that I wasn’t the only one dealing with these egregious feelings of self doubt. Consequently, being able to have open discussion in our class removed most of the angst and weight off my shoulders my proverbial shoulders. Before the semester began my outlook for my academic future was stark, I wasn’t sure how I was going to overcome the obstacles at hand. There is a great quote by John J. Beckley that states “Most people don’t plan to fail; they fail to plan.” I was a person without a game plan, and in desperate need of assistance. Luckily for me, the material we covered in UNI 220 provided valuable information that aided my mental
health and self confidence. I was able to learn about different resources and methodology of how to approach the obstacles that were in my way. After applying the new learned information, I can honestly surmise that my academic standing has improved. The true testament to my improvement has reflected on the grades I have earned thus far.
My score on the PRCA-24 was a 100 which lands me in the high level of communication apprehension area. A further breakdown of my score is as follows: Group Discussion-26, Meetings-26, Interpersonal Conversations-24, and Public Speaking-24. Since I am a very antisocial person, I knew my score would be very high. I am so antisocial that I rarely order my own food at a fast food restaurant when I am with a group. This type of situations will only intensify as I begin public speaking, so I am in desperate need of management strategies. After reading the first few chapters of the book, I have produced the strategies below.
I started the week off at Ortho Colorado. I cleaned beds and rooms and helped put patients' charts together. The next day was breast center. I gave patients paperwork to fill out and checked patients in. I also took the mammogram patients to get changed and gave patients' charts to the techs. Wednesday and Saturday I was in PACU and I helped the nurses with anything that they needed. I admited patients into the computer and restocked bays. I also got the patients ice chips and ice packs.
Growing up, my parents never expected perfection but expected that I try to accomplish my best. The effort I’ve put forth in learning has been reflected in my grades throughout my high school career. I’ve entered myself in vigorous course work such as AP Government and AP English to become well prepared for my college career, all while maintaining a 4.4 grade point average this year. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being. Working to learn is why I am so dedicated to my studies now.
Learning process requires time, dedication, and self-discipline. There is not an easy way to succeed in college. Instead, there are instructors who offer support to students, encouraging them to succeed. Learning from instructors’ feedback, students are
After completing my Hot Zone Analysis, I saw several problem areas throughout my schedule. One of the more difficult Hot Zone areas I have is that both ENC 1101 and MATH 0022C have quizzes on mostly the same days. I also had scheduled two online finals on the same day and several quizzes the week before them. This schedule would mean that I would have very little time to review before each one. Another big Hot Zone was my commitment to my church and attending all services offered; this cut back on my time able to study throughout the week.
In this reflective analysis of NAEYC Standard three, Observing, Documenting, and Assessing to Support Young Children and Families, I will first reflect on my growth, as an early childhood professional, during my course of study. Secondly, I will address my strengths related to the standard and discuss areas in need of further professional development. Finally, I will outline my goals for future growth and development. Early childhood educators demonstrate professional competence by understanding the role of assessment and the various methods of assessing student learning, including observation, documentation and standardized testing. These assessment strategies, along with partnerships with parents, can support students in their development and growth, by informing instruction and evaluating instructional practices.
University 101 has helped me acclimate me to college life at Northern Illinois University. When I first started here, I was extremely nervous for the new environment I was going into rather blindly. However, after taking UNIV 101, I learned some valuable information to better myself for my future college endeavors. Thanks to my professor, peer educator, classmates, the novel, and the text book, I will be able to continue throughout college with confidence and stability.
In conclusion, my dream is to become successful in college and benefit from college skills that will help me reach my future goals. However, I may have to be prepared for the obstacles that I might encounter, and learn to overcome them. Much of my success will depend upon my willingness to seek advice from experts and professors. In addition, I will have to learn how to build effective strategies that will help me achieve my dream of becoming successful students
Only three short weeks ago, I was presented with the opportunity to attend school at the University of Phoenix in order to complete my degree. While I was certain that continuing school was one of my goals, I was not sure if now was the best time. Despite my wavering feelings, I made the choice to proceed. Still, while making the decision to begin attending college, I never really considered my lifetime goals as they pertained to education. While I was set on the most obvious goal of finishing college and graduating with a degree, it still felt unsettling to begin college in general.
Throughout our whole high school career, the topic of college is compelled onto us. Individually, we inherit this depiction of an impeccable campus with an abundance of opportunity and no struggles. However, this is just a cropped version of the picture. The unabridged image is four to six years of stress, suicidal thoughts, financial struggles and endless issues corresponding to bullying and harassment. From generation to generation, countless students attend college on the grounds that they accept it will surpass their chances in the future. Despite this, several of them did nothing other than waste time and money to major in a career they probably never wanted in the first place.
I nervously opened the doors to my future, hoping for the best for myself. At first, I believed departing to class would be simple, but when the bell rang for the first time I had no idea what class room goes where and how busy the halls were going to be. Suddenly, the entire world around me scrambled to class, and on occasions bumping each other along the way; it was a widespread panic for most of the freshmen. Fortunately, I found some wonderful teachers to direct me to my rooms that I will spend the next year
In this “Digital Age” that we currently live in, it becomes very easy for an individual to become infatuated with the amount of social media outlets available on the internet. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat all revolve around the idea of showcasing one’s personal life for the sake of receiving positive feedback or attention by peers and strangers from the outside world. An episode of the Netflix sci-fi anthology series, “Black Mirror,” decides to tackle this topic in a surreal yet imaginative way. The episode in particular, “Nosedive,” investigates a hypothetical future or alternate universe where social media profiles and star ratings have become the norm. The plot revolves around a young lady named Lacie, who
The academic journey from my childhood up to my ongoing college experience was an important role in defining who I am as an individual. Like any other person, I eventually gained the understanding and importance of essential qualities like time management, work ethic, developing strong mental mindset, and many other things throughout my years of education. Fortunately for me, I became aware of these things much earlier than my peers around me. However, being aware of these things was only a fraction towards success. Over time I’ve realized that the most critical part of success was gaining the discipline and willpower to apply these lessons and concepts.
At the start of my undergraduate education, I was taken aback by what I had ahead of me. Now finally out of high school, a bevy of opportunities suddenly sprang themselves upon me. I was faced with the questions of what classes to take, what to study, what to participate in, how to fend for myself, how to accomplish my goals, and countless others. After struggling with these monumental questions, I realized that, in fact, nothing had changed. I was still the same person I had always been, only now presented with much more opportunity and room to grow. Thus, rather than continuing to flounder in grandiose thought, I began to experience what only a university can offer, by embracing the infinite potential presented to me.
I will fund my exhibit through donations and sales. I would reach out to the community, explain my exhibit and ask for donations, but I would primarily generate revenue through selling items related to the exhibit like prints of the works being shown, creative posters, key chains, t-shirts and other mementos. Additionally, I would have bake sales and fairs and other activities of a similar nature.
