Hot Zone Reflection After completing my Hot Zone Analysis, I saw several problem areas throughout my schedule. One of the more difficult Hot Zone areas I have is that both ENC 1101 and MATH 0022C have quizzes on mostly the same days. I also had scheduled two online finals on the same day and several quizzes the week before them. This schedule would mean that I would have very little time to review before each one. Another big Hot Zone was my commitment to my church and attending all services offered; this cut back on my time able to study throughout the week. The results of my communication plan helped me evaluate where my bigger barriers are and how I would fix them. I had two major barriers that I have to fix, one is that I wasn’t
sure how I would fit in extra tutoring during the week on top of what I am already attending each week. My second is that my parents require us to go to church three days a week. I plan to speak to my parents and explain that attending that many times cuts back on the times I am able to study for my classes. As for tutoring, I am scheduling to go right when they open on Tuesdays and Thursdays and staying after my last class, so I won’t have to worry about being on time for class. I revise some of my calendar for this term, specifically the two finals that I scheduled on the same day and adding in extra time to study after work. I can improve my strategies on extinguishing my Hot Zones by continually checking my calendar to make sure I don’t schedule any and if that happens plan a way around it. My action plan for future semesters is that I will double check my schedule; and make sure that I have the time to attend and study for all my classes. I will also start keeping a calendar year round to keep track of important dates throughout the semester.
On Friday, December 7, the last monkey was finally put down. After this the decon team arrives. They seal off the building and heat these special crystals that kill everything that is living. Also, the team learns that Milton Frantig, the employee who had fallen ill, had recovered from what seemed to be the flu.
Erik Erikson was heavily influenced by Freud but while Freud was an ID psychologist, Erikson was an ego psychologist. Erikson stressed that the development of the ego depended heavily on personal and social aspects. “According to Erikson, the ego develops as it successfully resolves crises that are distinctly social in nature. These involve establishing a sense of trust in others, developing a sense of identity in society, and helping the next generation prepare for the future” (McLeod, S. 1970). His theory focused on personality development through eight distinct stages. He believed that personality progressed in a stacking or pre-determined manner, this is referred to as the epigenetic principle. One must
I have changed how I communicate on both ends of the spectrum: I am aware of how I speak and how I listen. As a counselor, I am able to help my clients find solutions on their own, and as a wife, mother and friend, I can be a thoughtful and caring person to live with and talk to.
However, I have learned to improve my communication skills and relationships through communication courses. Prior to enrolling in communication
It’s probably not even threat, in America that is. It has the potential to wipe off humans. I first learned of Ebola in in my last year of middle school from a short documentary. The little information gained since then has sufficed but after reading The Hot Zone by Richard Preston my perception on the Ebola virus grew. Not only does Preston tells the tale of an Ebola outbreak in America, but his writing keeps tension throughout the book.
Communication is a vital skill in all facets of life and all occupations. Before a person begins work, they first interview with the employer, where their communication skills are made apparent. These skills are vital to daily success in the workplace, whether they are used in direct communication or indirectly through the written word. It is crucial that the true meaning of what one person is trying to communicate to another is made perfectly clear the first time to ensure efficiency and success throughout all paths of life. There are also several situations for communication a person may experience. Communication situations can happen at any point in a person’s life, and it is imperative that a person is prepared for these situations when
I conclusion, I have learned that the communication skills I need to work on are really simple fixes that wont take much to correct on my part. I hope by addressing my issues of communication along with others it will become easier. I also noticed that when others use the “I” statement I am way less likely to use the “You” statement. I also learned that compassionate listening is almost second nature in most case for me. The other piece I learned from this section is that I am able to read body language better then most. I hear this from my wife all the time “how can you read me so well and I don’t have to say a word.” Its scary but my job has taught me to read every situation as it presents itself.
When I began to comprehend the faults within our relationship, I knew it was time to act. Focusing on the Struggle Spectrum by the National Communication Association, I noticed that we were repeatedly climbing the struggle ladder and falling off the edge only to repeat it again. My younger, less educated version of myself would never have seen the problems but now, after years of college and my Interpersonal Communications class, I could see what needed to be done. I b...
This reflective essay has critically reviewed my personal and professional skills that are essential for communication and developing positive relationships with others. It has discussed the skills identified in the skills audit that I needed more confidence in for communication and effective relationships. It has finally linked two communication theories to both skills
Brian Tracy once said, “Communication is a skill that you can learn. It 's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you 're willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life.” Communication is defined as the process of acting on information. Communicating is a very essential component of everyday life. According to the text book, the average person spends between eighty and ninety percent of their “waking time” communicating (Beebe 2). Communication improves our relationships as well as our overall health. Without communication, the human species would end because it is such a necessity. There are a variety of forms of communication including interpersonal, mass, public, small group and intrapersonal
The future is bright and confusing all at the same time. Libraries are scrambling to deal with economic limitations and an ever-accelerating technologically driven world. Every decision made needs to be evaluated and weighted against the mission of the library. That mission will in some way focus on service to the community and providing access to information. As libraries advance, they will be required to do so in line with those ideals. In addition to maintaining these standards, libraries do not want to become irrelevant because they waited to see, how technology would change, instead of acting (Law 15). Action must be taken, but the decision is how and to what extent technology should change the methods and services of the library. A key part of the future of all libraries is the use of digital technology within the reference area.
When reading the opening lecture I cringed at the thought of dealing with communication. Sort of that belly ache feeling you get when you had to do an oral presentation in front of the class in elementary school. I understand have a number of strong qualities but self-image and my perception are still traits I long to improve.
In this “Digital Age” that we currently live in, it becomes very easy for an individual to become infatuated with the amount of social media outlets available on the internet. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat all revolve around the idea of showcasing one’s personal life for the sake of receiving positive feedback or attention by peers and strangers from the outside world. An episode of the Netflix sci-fi anthology series, “Black Mirror,” decides to tackle this topic in a surreal yet imaginative way. The episode in particular, “Nosedive,” investigates a hypothetical future or alternate universe where social media profiles and star ratings have become the norm. The plot revolves around a young lady named Lacie, who
...the answer. Now that I am aware there are specific things involved in interpersonal communication I will actively try to find ways to incorporate them in my daily life and in the long run help me accomplish my goals personally, academically, and professionally.
Effective communication skills enable people at all levels of the community to work together to achieve the community’s goals and move it forward on the path of success and development.
