"Come here." Papa motioned for his grandchildren to move closer to him. "The world we live in now is nothing like the way the world used to be. I'll tell you what, when I was growing up America was great." "What is America papa?" Kadence's bright blue eyes lit up as she asked this. She twirled her blonde hair in her fingers eagerly waiting for her papa to answer her. "America was what Panem was called before all this started. America was a place where people went to flourish and a place where every single person had their best shot at being the best they could be. Freedom. To do and be and live how ever you wanted." Papas eyes fill with sadness as his voice trails off. Colby wrinkled his nose and began to say something but Kadence cut him off jaw dropped and wide eyed. "Let him finish. Well what happened then papa. That sounds amazing." "Listen here little ones. With great power and freedom comes great corruption. You never can please everyone. The citizens and the government engaged in a great war. The Government won and now they will do whatever they have to do to make sure nothing like that ever happens
During the Washington D.C. trip I got to learn so much about the foundation of America. I also developed a greater understanding of the history behind America and how it started. Liberty, Hope, Acceptance, Recognition, Bravery, Courage, Honor, Independence, and Integrity are all words that can describe what is so great about America. The words that describe the meaning of America to me is acceptance, freedom, and honor.
America. It was a dream come true in a New World that was envisioned by artists, politicians, and monarchs alike. The ones who believed that anything could be achieved by God, the mind, and manpower. Even through opposition from governments, kingdoms, nobles, and naysayers, these brave individuals strived to establish a better life for themselves and their families, aimed to retain a secure future in the process, and wanted to worship God in their own way.
I knew it would happen. As much as I tried to stay optimistic, to put off my feelings of suspicion to an old man's negativity, I knew that this case would cost me something more than just my reputation in the town and that didn't even really matter. In Maycomb, reputation is a day by day concept. Sure, we have more than enough of our fair share of immovable gossipers, and drama kings and queens looking for a story to spread. But in everyone's own mind, if you did something stupid, immoral, or just mildly humorous or entertaining, it was the talk of the town and you were judged terribly for a few days, a few weeks tops. Then the whispers, and glances faded to conversations over coffee, and deep inside jokes. My reputation didn't bother me one bit.
America, often called land of the free, opportunity, but what truly is America has someone actually contemplated it? Well there are certain things that might define America, for example America for some people could be the land of opportunity, There are many reasons why different types of people all across the world might pursue the land of opportunity, America. That one person leaving their home land might be a parent, a parent looking to pursue a better life for their children. A better life than the one they lived. To allow their children to actually follow their dreams and hopes, to be someone in life. Where in America there is truly no limits to what one might become in life, or what one will do with the limitless opportunities.
The United States is a country that offers hope and freedom to all of her citizens. This is because the founding of America was rooted in freedom and fed by hope. America is the source of countless success stories, starting with it’s first...
America was where all my mother's hopes lay. She had come to San Francisco in 1949 after losing everything in China: her mother and father, her home, her first husband, and two daughters, twin baby girls. But she never looked back with regret. Things could get better in so many ways.
What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first seed in the ground and help plant the American nation we live in now who knows what America would be like now.
America is built on the preconceived premise that all people have the right to work towards happiness. Americans over the years have tried to define what being an American truly means. An American can be defined as one with endless opportunities, pride in their country, and the chance for a future for oneself and their families.
Early America was a place for anyone to live their life the way that they wanted, as it is now, but back then this was a new concept. Much of this idea comes from the freedoms obtained by living here. Many other countries in the world had many freedoms, but not as numerous as they were in America shortly after the country was founded. Americans during the late 1700's and early 1800's embraced their freedoms and became leaders and expanders, and what we now consider the founders of many present-day cities and towns. One thing that has been present throughout the generations of people living in America, is the desire to set themselves apart from other nations. This want was supplied to the American people in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. These two documents gave the American people everything they needed to set them apart from the rest. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, America was able to create an identity including freedom, religion, and individuality that is very unique to this country.
America was like a dream. It is a country where there are endless opportunities to make something out of yourself. However, despite that I was living in America I felt un-foreign and un-American. My first affliction was the language. Undoubtedly, my communication skills were nonexistent. As
Being an American means having more freedoms and opportunities than any other country in the world due to the hard work that our country has put forth to keep us out of poverty. America has been through many tragedies and setbacks, but each and every time our country has fought through these adverse times, it sets us apart from others. Although America still isn’t perfect, we have always had a government that is always seeking out the best for our country. Being an American also means that we are able to be in community with one another as a whole. Even with our country's size, we are all able to share the same purpose and identity.
What makes America different from other countries, what makes America better? The text says “That among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This quote shows some of the ideals that the founding fathers had for the people that live in America. This also shows that even when the country was this idea of a fresh start of an American Dream, just the wants of the people moving here changed. This idea is also shown throughout the poem.
Being an American is a phrase that is taken for granted by many people who leech of this land of opportunity. People who claim to be American do not know about the struggles other people have gone through to become an American. An American is proud of who they are and where they’ve come from. Many native Americans have forgotten the meaning and the advantages of being an American. I believe that being a true American is recognizing the past and striving for a better future.
To us, Heaven was here, and America… America was here” (referring to levels of importance). America was and is and always will be the limit. The ultimate gift on God's Green Earth. Anything is possible in this land and America can do nothing to disappoint the rest of
America was built for freedom and opportunities that our forefathers could not get anywhere else, especially where they came from. The central idea that I believe to be most important is “to build”. My father came to America to rebuild his life where he knew he’d be proud of the outcome that he could give to his future family. That’s why many of us are here today. Our parents chose to stay in America for what it offers: freedom, opportunities, and a place where we can come together to learn of new cultures and beliefs while not being afraid of expressing our own.
