On January 21, 2017, Donald J Trump became the 45th President of the United States. This was an unusual day, as more people were protesting in the streets of Washington, D.C. than attending the actual inauguration ceremony. Many people believed that Trump was going to lose the race to his rival, Hillary Clinton, but late on November 8, 2016, the voting polls had closed and Trump took the victory. Although Trump did not win the popular vote, he did win the electoral vote. Trump’s campaign had a lot of controversy surrounding it, as he said and did a number of things perceived by some as inappropriate and anger-fueling. Trump also made many promises during his 2017 presidential election. Many think that a president should not make that many …show more content…
“The wall will be be 1,900 miles long and lined with 5,000 new immigrant officers.” (Johnson) “That's taller than the arenas where Trump holds his rallies, taller than any ladder and one foot taller than the Great Wall of China.” (Johnson) “This ‘artistically beautiful’ wall will be constructed out of hardened concrete, rebar, and steel, and it will be ‘the greatest wall that you've ever seen’ -- so great that the nation will likely one day name it ‘The Trump Wall’”(Johnson). According to Trump, the wall will be built to keep out any illegal immigrants that have brought crime and drugs to America and have taken jobs from hard working Americans. Not only is the wall going up, but illegal immigrants are being hunted down and deported back to their country by the thousands by new immigration officers …show more content…
Twenty-thousand people gathered in Mexico City to protest against newly elected Donald Trump and his plans to disrupt their homes with a wall separating them from America. Many protesters feel like Trump is targeting them with unfair treatment (Gillespie). "He's pathetic. He's a very little man, and I'm sure he's insane," (Gillespie). Many protesters hold the same anger towards Trump. Trump has still not backed down about building the wall, nor will he. "The crackdown on illegal criminals is merely the keeping of my campaign promise," the President tweeted
As of right now, there have been many answers to the question about “how” but there is not one identified as the definitive answer as of yet. The amount of money needed to build the wall is about 18 billion according to Fox News. (Schallhorn, 2018) With the debt ceiling, ever-increasing people are bringing up other ways to deal with immigration, for example, redoing the laws we currently
Every 20th of January, the United States undergoes the passing of power from one president, to another. On this specific election, Donald J. Trump was elected as president. He has received much criticism from opposition, but much praise from his supporters. Although a very controversial person, Trump gave a great speech that was based on uniting the people as one. Trump used multiple rhetorical strategies such as repetition, pauses in speech, and listing are just a few of them. Adding hints of populism, his speech was one that touched many citizens. While very controversial, Trump’s inauguration speech was one that was based on the people, not the elite, about bringing back what made America great, and uniting everyone as one.
Because of the controversial issues surrounding President G.W. Bush before and during the time of his reelection, the acceptance speech that he delivered is an important piece of literature to study. This diplomatic speech is a piece of rhetorical contribution because the motives and meanings behind any President’s speech is significant to us as citizens of the United States of America. It further warrants our attention because if the audience is able to comprehend the inner meanings and motives behind a presidential speech, then they will eventually be able to differentiate the actual stances and platforms of future presidential candidates and nominees.
The president has a significant amount of power; however, this power is not unlimited, as it is kept in check by both the judicial and legislative branches. The president is held responsible for passing legislation that will improve the lives of everyday Americans, even though he shares his legislative powers with Congress. The sharing of power acts as an impediment to the president’s ability to pass legislation quickly and in the form it was originally conceived. However, Americans do not take this into account when judging a president, as they fully expect him to fulfill all of the promises he makes during his campaign. By making promises to pass monumental legislation once elected without mentioning that Congress stands as an obstacle that must be hurdled first, the president creates unrealistic expectations of what he can fulfill during his time in office (Jenkins-Smith, Silva, and Waterman, 2005). A president is expected to have the characteristics that will allow him to efficiently and effectively lead the nation and to accomplish the goals he set during his campaign (Jenkins-Smith et al., 2005). There have been a handful of presidents that have been immortalized as the ideal person to lead the United States and if a president does not live up to these lofty expectations the American public will inevitably be disappointed. Since every president is expected to accomplish great things during his presidency, he is forced to created and project a favorable image through unrealistic promises. The combination of preconceived ideas of the perfect president and the various promises made by presidential candidates during their campaign create unrealistic expectations of the president by the American public.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best.” stated President Donald Trump during his presidential announcement speech in 2015. Those words opened up the political can of worms that is the idea of a border wall. The border wall wouldn’t stop the flow of immigrants, and drugs that our president and people like him believe are imported from Mexico. The idea of building a wall has far more negative implications that outweigh the benefits. The wall is expensive, ineffective, harmful to the environment, and the majority of people do not want it..
One of the most important aspects of a presidential nominee is the candidate political ideology, and how that candidate transforms their ideology into vision with specific agenda that they can convince voters of. When we look at Donald Trump’s official campaign site we see seven position or stances on an issues that trump has chosen to center his campaign around was one of the main issues Trump addressed in every stump speech he gave during the primary. The first one listed is a step by step process in which he will build a giant wall between the border of the United States, and Mexico will pay for this far. Trump feels so confidently that this will happen he has even mapped it out day by day after he takes office of presidency stating, “On day 2 Mexico will immediately protest. They receive approximately $24 billion a year in remittances from Mexican nationals working in the United States. The majority of that amount comes from illegal aliens. It serves as de facto welfare for poor families in Mexico. There is no significant social safety net provided by the state in Mexico. On day 3 tell Mexico that if the Mexican government will contribute the
Donald Trump is a republican politician and businessman who was elected on November 8, 2016, as the president of United States taking the power in January of 2017. Trump brought many worries to a lot of people in the U.S.A and abroad which made them unhappy, but his presidency also made many people happy, especially Christians and republicans. I personally did not watch the debates, but I was able to hear about it on people around me, as most of the people that I know wanted Hillary Clinton to win because they saw so much of discrimination on Trump. Trump focused his campaign and debates on focusing on changing America for better, but the better changes were saying was only to give the opportunities to Americans only, cutting off the opportunity
Examining Trump’s rhetoric and past actions, it becomes clear that Trump’s ability to be the leader of America, especially in today’s already heated world climate, becomes questionable. When even the members of his own party refuse to endorse him and claim that he is not qualified to run a country, the general public needs to sit back and question his integrity. In Trump’s past, he has proven to be an insensitive, racist, greedy business man. Why would he prove to be any different once elected to office?
As a result of extreme hard work and perseverance followed by an unmatchable drive to succeed, Donald J. Trump has earned the right to be known as a multi-billionaire, real estate icon, and President of the United States of America. Reflecting on his life, he has faced many challenges and overcame them all. To understand how he rose to success and his journey to the top of the kingpin, it is important to recognize how he saw the American dream and pursued it. Today, many recognize him as the president, but very few can fully grasp all that he has done in his life. From his start as a real estate mogul, to his impact on the media, there are many questions as to how he became so recognizable today.
The underlying assumption: Donald Trump will say that he is going to ‘Make America Great Again’ but he won’t act on his promises to his voters.
Recently, an event that shaken not only The United States of America but the entire world, has occurred. Donald Trump was elected president this pasted tuesday. The entire nation has divided, Trump supporters, Clinton supporters and the undecided. Questions and concerns have risen. Will Donald Trump be the correct person to represent our country? Will he really build a wall and deport all illegal immigrants?
The United States and Mexican border has been the focus of an abundant amount of controversy the past decade in the States. The border wall, or border fence, is one of several barriers preventing illegal Mexican and South American immigrants from entering the United States. However, as statistics prove, immigration and drug smuggling has been on the rise the past few decades and our “three prong approach” is not confronting the escalating issue at hand. America’s border security is not resilient enough to deter these illegal immigrants and drug smugglers; our border wall must be fortified immediately.
As of today there has been a major problem with immigration and the people who are supposed to be taking care of it have been doing nothing about it. Most recently president elect Donald Trump has not had the best of luck with Mexico. He and his supporters wish to build a border wall between Mexico and the United States. This has angered many people throughout the country and in Mexico, there are different views on the border wall, many are in favor of not building one since it would complicate the relationship with Mexico and the United States. A border wall should not be put into place between the U.S. and Mexico. Since the wall will be built for immigrants, they are outraged that Trump’s vision of immigrants is so horrible, immigrants are not the only ones outraged. Many others find Donald Trump’s views irrational are racist.
We can see Trump’s Goals and Objectives in his presidential vision and mission campaign, his “Make America Great Again!” was clear enough that he understands that America has the potential, but is buried, therefor he encourages the public together make it great again. His policies towards ISIS, the Wall and his economic plan are hot topics which public both his supporter and non-supporter will respond to his objectives. In this step, he is way in front of Hillary when the public up until now have not yet moved on from her email past scandal and refuse to look up into her promises. But anyhow, Trumps goals and objectives sometimes triggered public’s confusedness whether to have a leader like him or not.
Also, various reasons have been voiced regarding why the Trump immigration reforms plan may fail. Politician Gavin Newsom from California posits that the construction of a border wall is impractical and pointless. According to him, the idea would be hindered by mountains, rivers, private, and tribal lands along the frontier among other challenges (Rosenfeld). Further, there have been concerns that the wall will not stop relocation into the USA as immigrants have been able to cross over in spite of the upgraded border security. The most important argument so far aired against the plan is that the success of the deportation agenda will cause adverse effects on the economy. By deporting millions of people, the nation will lose significant number workers, especially farmers. According to Gavin, about 6% of the American workforce is made up of immigrants and sending them home is risky for the financial
