Patrick Jackson Dr. Doyle ENG101-S4 08 October 2014 Protect Our Borders The United States and Mexican border has been the focus of an abundant amount of controversy the past decade in the States. The border wall, or border fence, is one of several barriers preventing illegal Mexican and South American immigrants from entering the United States. However, as statistics prove, immigration and drug smuggling has been on the rise the past few decades and our “three prong approach” is not confronting the escalating issue at hand. America’s border security is not resilient enough to deter these illegal immigrants and drug smugglers; our border wall must be fortified immediately. The Mexican-American border barriers were originally built as part of a three-pronged approach to diminish illicit contraband, drug smuggling, and illegal immigrants. This operation would curtail drug transport routes from Central America. Three headquarters were established along the Unites States border: operation gatekeeper in California, Operation Hold-the-Line in Texas, and Operation Safeguard in Arizona. These strategically placed headquarters have done an outstanding job securing our borders the past decade, however with drug smuggling on the rise, they require much more support from the government. Regrettably, adversaries of the barriers claim that they are more of a political gambit to instigate foreign affairs and a complete waste of taxpayers’ money. These opponents see the United States-Mexico barrier as an unsuccessful deterrent to illegal immigrants and unwanted drugs that ultimately and inaptly endangers the security and wellbeing of immigrants seeking refuge in the States. The border between the United States and Mexico is fraught with a combinat... ... middle of paper ... ...ion and drug smuggling has been on the rise the past few decades and our current approach is not confronting the escalating issue at hand. America’s safekeeping at our borders is not robust enough to deter these illegal immigrants and drug smugglers. Our border wall and security checkpoints must be strengthened immediately. A nation without borders is not a nation. Today, every country is making effort to secure its borders not only from terrorists, drugs and smuggling but also from illegal immigration. All these recurring activities have sparked the United States to secure its borders against illegal immigrants and terrorism by creating a special department named the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) headed by the Secretary of Homeland Security. After the terrorist attack of 9/11, terrorism and illegal immigration were two striking issues for the DHS. To solve these issues, the Department of Homeland Security further created two immigration enforcement agencies: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Customs and
The border wall debate has become one of the most significant talking points in the United States and countries around the world. Many people believe that the wall is unnecessary and many think that it is necessary. Building a border wall may cost billions of dollars, but it might be able to save the country money as well. Some positive impacts of a border wall are for example a decline in apprehension rates, creating a safer America and putting a damper on the flow of illegal drugs. As well as the positive impacts, we will look at the negative implications as well. Some of these are that the symbolism, cost, effect of diversity, environmental impact and the higher death impact.
...r (Ellingwood, 2004). Even after more and more cases like this one contienued to happen the U.S. government did not to try and reduce the number of migrants dying. Instead it intensified its border security consciously knowing what the outcome could be. Mexican Senate passed a resolution zeroing in on Gatekeeper and the American government: “The anti-immigration strategy implemented by the U.S. government to seal its border becomes more aggressive every day, raising the cost in human lives of those who attempt to obtain better living conditions,” the resolution stated (Ellingwood, 2004). It noted that “migrants must make their way through heavy vegetation, deep and rocky canyons, and high mountains that make the crossing difficult, slow, and dangerous. Add to this the lack of food and water and the bad climate… and the high number of deaths that the undocumented suf

The US and Mexican boarder has been a common political debate now a days because of the overwhelming flow if illegal Mexicans in the United States. People feel that these illegal’s are stealing jobs and threatening security and the boarder needs sealed off and guarded from these intruders. However there are to many problems with that theory. Some include the dangers of Illegal’s crossing, maintaining a boarder that big and, the big problem, the cost.

There are other ways to get into America if some people are determined to get into America. Some people are stating that “ The wall isn’t going to stop anyone.” Therefore stating that there other ways to get in here. According to The New York Times Magazine.com a video called “Mexico's drug tunnels”. “They actually l have film of tunnels that immigrants dug to smuggle drugs. They said they are going to patch them up.” But is that really going to stop them from digging more tunnels. I say no, that’s not going to stop them. Trump would be only throwing away 25 billion dollars that we are paying from our
When we look at the Mexican American border we see it as something that holds our future. Its so big and tall that it stretches from end to end. We look at it and seems great and strong just letting us wait for our time. It holds something great for us on the other side. We just have to wait for our time to be able to get there. Sometimes that time doesn’t ever come but it does to our children. They are able to get to the other side of
Drug abuse is a plague that is taking over the United States; not just the possession of drugs, but also the sale and use of illegal drugs. People in America depend on the stock of drugs as a breakout for a number of reasons. For some, illegal drugs are the only concern they have through past experience. For others, it’s a way to make money and gain more power over their peers. In other words, it’s their way of climbing to the top of the socioeconomic pyramid. Illegal drugs lead to substantial problems such as health issues, death, and murders. Illegal drugs are also becoming an obstacle when coming in and out of the United States via the Mexico border. Anderson and Gardner states, “Illegal smuggling goes both ways on the United States-Mexico
The issue today is that we have too many illegal immigrants in the United States. By building a wall we can insure that Americans can have their own jobs. Instead of mexicans stealing americans jobs.We the people of the U.S need to understand that the border wall is here to help us , not block us out from the rest of the world. We can insure that we will get our jobs back. We estimated that 8 million jobs are stolen by illegal aliens each year . The United States should consider building a border wall along the mexican border.
The cartels are constantly fighting to gain control over Mexican border territories. They will utilize tactics such as kidnapping, extortion, torture, assassinations, and murders in order to gain what they desire. Nothing will stand in their way, even if it involves the atrocities of extreme brutality, even death. There is one motivating factor that keeps the cartels fighting harder and smarter, that is the war on drugs itself. The demand for cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines, MDMA, and marijuana is prevalent in the U.S. With the cartels knowing of this need, they intend to provide supplies to the demand. They are as strong as they were over one hundred years ago, possibly even stronger. Sadly, the dangers that come with the cartels
Trump has frequently said that “a nation without borders, is not a nation,” “a nation without laws is not a nation,” and finally that “a nation that does not serve its own citizens is not a nation. (donaldjtrump.com, 1) This is where the reform that Trump has planned comes into play. Trump’s first part to his plan includes building a wall along the Southern border of the United States. This 2,000 mile long wall is projected to cost about $10 Billion, which ironically is Donald Trump’s net worth. (youtube.com) This wall would keep illegal immigrants from coming into our country. Not only would building a wall along the Southern border keep the illegals themselves out, however it would also keep problems out of our country. (foxnews.com, 1) The struggle with our immigration problem has not been simply just illegals taking over American jobs, however it has been the drug cartels that bring in their drugs and crime. Also, there have been many murders and sexual assaults of American citizens by illegal
The issue of unauthorized immigration through Southwest border crossing has been debated for years, however, it has recently been brought to the spotlight with the presidential election of Donald Trump, as he persistently promises the public that he will stop the flow of illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central American countries by securing the borders with a massive wall. Most Trump supporters believe that immigration is a “big problem” because of the negative views they hold against undocumented immigrants. Some of these views include that undocumented immigrants take American jobs from citizens, are less hardworking and honest, or commit serious crimes (Doherty). A significant percentage of of these Trump supporters are in support of
To stop illegal immigrants from entering countries and stealing jobs from legal citizens, some believe that a border fence should be used. A border fence is a big fence that surrounds the country that is attempting regulate the amount of people entering. People believe that by setting up the large fence on the border of their country it will deter immigrants from entering illegally. The reality of this solution is that with today’s technology it will take more than a fence to keep people from crossing the border in search of a new start. There is too many
