Donald Trump's Immigration Reform

Currently in the United States of America, our country is dealing with massive security issues on our Southern border with Mexico. Somewhere between eight and twelve million illegal aliens come into the United States each year from Mexico. This has been one of the main focal points of the presidential election here in the United States. On November 8th, 2016 a new president will take office. The candidate that has the toughest and most straightforward reform according to the Republican Party for illegal immigration is businessman Donald J. Trump. Donald Trump is running on the Republican Party’s ticket with running mate (former Indiana Governor) Mike Pence. Donald Trump plans to reform the immigration plan installed by Barack Obama by building

a wall on the United State's Southern border, make mexico fund the wall, and cancel visas that are about to be issued to illegal immigrants living in the United States.

Donald Trump says that on “Day one” we will secure our borders.

Trump has frequently said that “a nation without borders, is not a nation,” “a nation without laws is not a nation,” and finally that “a nation that does not serve its own citizens is not a nation. (donaldjtrump.com, 1) This is where the reform that Trump has planned comes into play. Trump’s first part to his plan includes building a wall along the Southern border of the United States. This 2,000 mile long wall is projected to cost about $10 Billion, which ironically is Donald Trump’s net worth. (youtube.com) This wall would keep illegal immigrants from coming into our country. Not only would building a wall along the Southern border keep the illegals themselves out, however it would also keep problems out of our country. (foxnews.com, 1) The struggle with our immigration problem has not been simply just illegals taking over American jobs, however it has been the drug cartels that bring in their drugs and crime. Also, there have been many murders and sexual assaults of American citizens by illegal

aliens.

Trump plans on building a great wall that will cost approximately $10 billion, however the most important question one might have is, how does Donald Trump plan to pay for such an expensive operation? (cnn.com, 1) Well, Trump has a very simple and straightforward solution to this question. In Trump’s words, “We will build a great wall, and Mexico will be paying for the wall!” (donaldjtrump.com, 1) Trump’s reasoning behind Mexico paying for the wall is simply not that he does not want to pay for it, nor is it because he has bad blood with Mexico. The reason that Trump wants to make Mexico pay for the wall is because of all of the problems that Mexico has been bringing our country. Mexico receives approximately $24 billion from the United States annually. (donaldjtrump.com, 1) The money received is money that is paying for visas and illegal aliens to do cheap labor, and be allowed to stay without being caught by immigration services or other law enforcement. Yes, a small portion of this $24 billion goes to paying for visas for to make illegal immigrants legalized, however the majority of it is not going towards legal operations. Trump also states that this plan will help to “even us out.” (donaldjtrump.com, 1)

The last and possibly the most important step towards ending illegal immigration via Trump’s immigration reform is cancelling the approximately one million visas that are issued to illegal immigrants each year. “Immigration is a privilege, not a right,” according to Trump. (donaldjtrump.com, 1) The United States have taken four times the number of immigrants from Mexico alone than any other country in the world have taken from all other countries combined. This is due to our “open borders and amnesty plans put in by dishonest politicians” Trump says. This is why he plans to charge fees for visas for the citizens of Mexico that choose to work and benefit our country. By charging these fees for visas, part of the wall will already be paid for. This will help soften the blow on Mexico as a country financially, and still prevent the United States from paying for a $10 billion project. Recently Donald Trump also met with the Mexican Prime Minister Enrique Peña Nieto.

Trump’s plan has sparked outrage among Mexican Americans and illegal immigrants who will be voting.

The plan to make Mexico pay for the wall has even gone as far as to their former Prime Minister, who in a live interview stated that, “I am not going to pay for that (expletive deleted) wall! He should pay for it, he has the money.” (youtube.com) The Democratic party has also shown disapproval for Trump’s wall plan. (cnn.com, 1) Even Pope Francis is against Trump’s wall, declaring that it is not christian-like to build a wall. (foxnews.com, 1) This is where Trump pointed out that the Pope has a rather large wall at the Vatican. All in all, there are many people that like Trump’s idea for border security, however there are just as many if not more doubters that are against his policy that he plans to implement once he takes

office.

The bottom line is that Trump’s policy is designed to keep Mexican illegal immigrants out of the United States. He wants the drug cartels and sex offenders coming from Mexico to be an event of the past. This will limit costs of criminal investigation in the United States annually as well. The Election will take place on November 8, 2016 and will more than likely be one of the closest races in the history of the United States. If Trump does end up winning in November, this will be the system put into place on “Day one.”
