The toxic leadership in an organization is considered to be the focus of adverse outcomes. The leader spreads negative behavior and decreases motivation for the organization.
Toxic leaders manifest negative behavior and promotes problems in the workplace. This is the bad side of workplace behavior. The toxic leadership comes in the workplace by means of self-centered attitudes, motivation and behavior. This has impact on the organization subordinates, and mission performance. A toxic leader will have a profound effect on the objectives of the organization. Distorting the mission and the objective will have long and short effect on the organization. Weeding out the psychological, emotional and physical destruction of the toxic leader can sometimes be difficult. To counteract this type of behavior will require more than getting rid of the toxic leader. Depending on the degree and the intensive nature of this behavior it could be very difficult to get rid of.

Having to endure this type of leader will only make a toxic environment. Trying to make the senior members aware of this type work environment is very difficult. The armed forces are structured solely based on the chain of command. All complaints and suggestion have to go through a certain procedural to get to the top. This makes it very difficult to weed out the toxic leader.
Todays organizations are trying to stay ahead of the toxic environment and the toxic leadership. This becoming more of a challenge because, some level of toxic behavior is already in the organization. Now the challenge switches from offense to defense. This behavior can be credited to success or failure. At some levels of toxic leadership the most destructive activities are sometime hidden by upper-level management. At this point the questions shift from weeding out the toxic behavior to survival.

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines leadership as the office or position of a leader; capacity to lead; the act or an instance of leading, and it defines a leader as a person who has commanding authority or influence; a first or principal performer of a group. In the 1965 movie “In Harm’s Way”, Rear Admiral Torrey displayed the traits of a leader throughout the movie. He took care of his SAILORS, when the widower XO onboard his command was having drinking problems because of the manner and circumstances in which his wife died, RADM Torrey took the time to talk to him and gave him advice on doing the right thing, to quit drinking, let go of the past, and move on with his life. Instead of punishing him, RAMD Torrey tried to help him. During battle, RAMD Torrey was a leader by letting his friend CDR Powell know that it was fine to be afraid, that battles are fought by scared men who find the courage and commitment to fight and carryout the mission. RAMD Torrey surrounded himself with SAILORS he could trust, men who would carry out plans in the face of danger and adversity. I was fond of the scene where the Command Duty Officer onboard the cruiser did not slow down to wait for the ship’s CO to catch-up and board, he made a decision to continue at full speed, leaving the harbor during the December 7, 1941, Japanese attack, and thus saving the ship.

Natural born leaders are almost nonexistent in today’s military. Military members have to complete numerous leadership classes as you progress through the military ranks whether you are an enlisted or as an officer. There are many attributes that people would have to possess to be considered a great leader. Some of those attributes include honesty, respect, trustworthy, and enthusiasm just to name a few. There have been many leaders I have worked with or for over my past 19 years in the Army. One of the most important one would have to be honesty. Honesty is important because if the people that work for you cannot believe what you tell them, they will never trust you or support you. Employees can make or break their supervisor. Emotions of a leader are so important in this aspect of leadership. It is through emotions that the leader will be categorized as ‘toxic’ or ‘not toxic.’ It is with no doubt that true leaders will appeal to emotions and as the same time know how to cope with their own emotions and how to perceive or control the emotions of a group. The major fundamental task of a leader is to inspire positive feelings in those he leads. In whichever situation followers always turn their attention to leaders, they expect his reaction towards that particular situation which will act as emotional guideline. The way a leader responds to a situation will give the followers a way of interpreting that event which in turn will make them react emotionally. If a leaders panics, gets annoyed or angry, these emotions will spread to the followers. On the contrary if he shows confidence and optimism to the same situation, his emotions will also be “infectious” (Maxwell, 2002).
They tend to think that employees are not valuable and have nothing to contribute to the job except for a body being in the position and doing exactly what they are told. This causes employees to not be willing to listen to what the boss has to say because they don 't feel that they are being listened to. They don 't feel that their ideas or questions are heard. This makes the employee feel under minded and causes them not to trust the boss. A lot of times employees of bad bosses will feel unmotivated and unwilling to do a productive job. This tends to cause problems at home as well because the employee does not enjoy the job so they are more likely to bring the aggression they feel towards their boss home and take it out on family members. A bad boss tends to believe that the employees cannot do as good a job as they can, therefore they tend to hire employees who are weak and less qualified, because those employees will never live up to the expectation and therefore they will never be a threat to the boss 's job, and tend to think they do not need to communicate with their employees about the company or what is going on. Bad bosses tend to be more selfish and self-centered. This causes employees to not want to show up for work. With so many constant changes today with different generations, legal and political circumstances and ever-changing and improving technology sources, organizations have new and recurring issues arising every single day. The reasons for these issues vary widely and develop because of so many different situations. The outcome of the situation depends on many factors including the issue at hand, the management style and the ethics of the organization to simply name a few. These outcomes can certainly make or break an organization if not handled appropriately. The issue I have found to be the most significant is leadership.
A leader sets the tone for those they supervise. Having a weak or ineffective leadership style turns what could be a productive organization into one that lacks direction, is chaotic, and fails to live up to its potential. Incompetent central leadership can also cause a power struggle amongst the other remaining team members. Groups seek leadership; when leaders fail to use their powers others will maneuver to use the power left in the void. This can lead to a power-struggle and backstabbing (Morgan, 2007).

Whatever the reasons preventing you from leaving this unhappy place, you must always maintain a noble professional conduct and stay alert for any inappropriate behavior that may harm you. Maintaining control It's important to remember that during your experience in a toxic workplace, other people are probably experiencing the same pain that the environment is causing you.
Leader should have the shared responsibility and collaborative quality. For example, instead of making the strategy alone, he will gather the idea of all brilliant workers to increase the productivity of the organisation.
