Torture has been used for thousands of years for many purposes, to either obtain information, seek revenge, or simply punishment. The definition of torture is, “hurting or causing someone extreme pain either physically or mentally” (Stolley, “Defining torture”). Torture is never acceptable, if we are so complex and so smart then why do we have to resort to torture? People see torture as many different things but in the end it still comes down to the same meaning of hurting or corrupting someone or something. The use of torture is inhumane and unorthodox and should never have to be used, torture is never acceptable. People that are tortured have one motive, get revenge on the person that hurt them. Torture can corrupt people and cause them to lose their mind. They will want revenge for suffering and they’ll go right to the people that did that to them. For example, one of the largest uses of torture is in the army. The army uses torture to get information out of terrorists, to learn about threats, and new weaponry. If that terrorist was ever to escape he would tell his leader about the torture they had inflicted on him and that terrorist group would send people to kill …show more content…

When people won’t cooperate when you need them to and you've tried to use words, sometimes torture will get through to people better. Yes it might be wrong but it’s the only thing that will work for a very stubborn person. Take 911 as an example, we wanted and needed to find out where Osama Bin Laden was hiding and what he was going to do next in his attacks. To find out his whereabouts and his plans we had to extract information from other terrorists that worked for him. Of course they weren't just going to give us that kind of information so we had to torture them for the safety of America. We had to find out a lot of information and had to use a lot of torture but it was used for good to not only keep our country safe but other countries as
