Tornado Drills

a) I think that the reaction to this warning was organized and controlled because Andrea has shown that she had a good understanding about to follow general emergency/ disaster preparation. Also, she has demonstrated how to respond to recommendation and requirement for child care program. That means Angela and her employees have been practicing so well, they have demonstrate they know what action to take when emergencies or disaster occur. The way all the teachers handled that situation, we can say that they have been practicing Tornado drills.
b) To be prepared for an emergency, a facility needs:
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
An emergency plan, posted.
1) Emergency procedures and posted evacuation routes.
-The center conducts fire drills on a monthly

basis and records the dates as required by licensing. The center conducts disaster drills on a bi-monthly basis and records the dates as required by licensing. There are two designated escape routes from each area. Evacuation maps are posted in each classroom.
- A record needs to be kept of these drills that include the date, the time of day, the number of children, staff who participated, the time taken to evacuate the building and any other particulars of the drill.
Communication
2) Emergency phone numbers, posted.
The following emergency phone numbers must be posted by each phone in a center:
1. Police
2. Fire
3. Ambulance
TRAINING: Staff have been trained on how and when to shut off all utilities and are aware of where shut off tool is located. Older children are taught to call 911 if directed to do so by a staff member. At least one staff member trained in CPR and first-aid is with each group of children as required by licensing.
Building Evacuation
Staff should take the following items: Disaster supplies which are stored. Class/staff attendance sheets and visitor sign-in sheets. Children’s emergency and medical information/supplies. Cell phone, if available
