In recent news, "Tidal" has made some important changes that has allowed it a more popular image in the streaming service market. The recent hiring of Desiree Perez as the CEO, after Tidal fell into debt, took Tidal in a new direction of a well needed outcome.
A major change that took place with Tidal was the inclusion of huge named artist albums such as those by Rihanna, T.I., Beyonce, and Kanye West. These albums were major powers in which allowed title to increase in popularity and numbers in the iTunes Store. Kanye West's "TLOP" album, alone, was responsible for 1 million new trial members since February 22nd, 2017.
Another change to Tidal was its focus on the younger music consumer crowd from a less pin-pointed type catalog. This new
Reality melted around me as I poured through album reviews and rankings, seeing the amount of praise and reverence his work holds, I was blown away. I watched interviews from artists I’d been a fan of for years, claiming that Kanye was their inspiration. I read analysis pinpointing how each of his albums opened up new sub genres in hip hop, how he completely changed the stigmatism of the art, allowing for new creative freedom, opening the doors for artists like Drake, Tyler the Creator and Chance the Rapper just to name a few. He had been right under the surface all along. He paved the way for my generation of artists to walk on, and I had been blissfully ignorant, skipping along his path.

Kanye Omari West, rapper, producer, professional celebrity, and with an ego to match, has forced himself into the limelight of the music industry. Kanye West has made a lasting impression on all of those around him, whether it be a good one or bad. With seven full length albums, a multimillion record label company, and a successful fashion business all under his belt, it’s fair to say that Kanye has done his fair share of creating. Over the last twelve years Kanye went from a young Chicago kid just trying to get his flows off, to one of the most decorated musicians of all time. With over 20 Grammy’s and 3 of his albums ending up on the Rolling stones “500 greatest albums of all time”. He has continuously created, entertained, and spoken his mind for years. Whether it be “George Bush does not care about black people” or “Taylor imma let you finish, but Beyoncé had
Before the 1990’s, if people want to listen to music, they just visit a music store and pick up a CD and then put it into a stereo equipment. However, the development of MP3 file format gradually changed the way people listen to music. This format lets everyone download music easily and it can be converted to CD as well. But, there is still a problem: searching MP3 files on the internet is maddening and people seldom can find the music they want. Therefore, the birth of Napster solved this problem, creating a virtual music community in which music fans could use the Web as a “swap meet” for music files. More importantly, Napster is easy to use and it’s free, which expands the range of audience in age. Bandwidth also contributed to Napster’s success. The greater the bandwidth, the faster the file can be transferred. So, Napster really changed the way people listen to music, discover music and interact with music.

In conclusion, the vast technology change opens many opportunities for Netflix to grow. By assessing the market environment and challenges, it enables Netflix to overcome the obstacles to remain as the market leader. To achieve the future growth, Netflix should implement both strategic and tactical approaches to compete with others. The strategic and tactical business plans for Netflix are improving content libraries, developing more partnership with production firms, and staying with the low-pricing strategy.

Spotify recognizes that their competitors offered streaming music but not on-demand. Similar sites let you listen to playlist determined by the users taste. Users of these type of services could not simply listen to their favorite song whenever they wanted. The competitor sites are similar to listening to a radio station. Spotify decided to take that to the next level, giving the user the ability to choose any song they want at any time for a similar subscription price. This made them the preferred web-based music streaming subscription among
Abstract: Relatively little attention has been given to the effect of digital music on amateur musicians and music distribution. Here, I examine the revolution on the horizon-sites such as MP3.com herald the eventual bridging of the gap between artist and listener while shrinking the record companies. In this paper I examine two such sites that host independent and labeled artists alike: the larger, better-known MP3.com and the smaller, independent, non-profit Songfight. I examine how they each handle the challenges of digital music and their attraction for artists while concluding that a change in the recording industry as we know it is forthcoming.
The future of digital music has many hurdles to overcome. Right now users are locked into a store and m3p player combination that allows the consumer no freedom of choice. While some record companies are exploring the concept of releasing DRM free music, the reality is that for the foreseeable future, DRM is here to stay. However, steps can be taken to open up DRM schemes and allow users the fair use rights that have been previously established by the United States government. Several companies are also exploring Web 2.0 concepts that could truly revolutionize the music industry and forever change how we listen to and discover new music.
... This new way of promoting got the attention of many and his fans were able to find out about this project first. Not far away from Jay Z, Beyonce used twitter to announce her full album and videos were on sale without anyone knowing she was even working on an album. “Beyoncé seems to have gained a preternatural understanding of the online zeitgeist over the past couple of years. Her music and corresponding images are conducive to highly tweetable, hashtaggable, rebloggable, giffable bite sizes”(CITE).These are artists using social media as promotion for their own work. In Beyonce’s case, her budget on promoting her album might have only required her to send one tweet including the link to itunes. Of course her fans went wild to rush to buy the album which was the perfect way of her reaching out to her fans directly and letting them know first about her secret album.
More often than not, we fail to realize just how much has changed in this world since our grandparents' generation. The sudden rise of technology has given birth to a world that is completely unrecognizable. What once took hours to simply set up can now be done in mere seconds and what once was the size of a room can now fit into our pockets. This report will be looking into the various ways the technology that is used to listen to music has changed since the time of our grandparents' and the different ways various age groups access music in today's world.
Spotify is one of the most popular streaming services. And since its breakthrough, access to music have never been easier – just type in the name of an artist or a song and press play. The advantage of it is that listeners gets to listen to their wanted music instantly and for free and artist gets paid royalties. But since spotify’s big breakthrough there has been big debates if free music streaming is going to kill the music industry or if it’s going to help it.
“Singers and bands are the public face of the music industry, but creating, recording and promoting a song takes a large team of people. As record companies have seen their profits decrease, they have cut positions they are no longer able to afford” (Amy Adkins). Since the record companies profit decrease, they cut positions they can’t afford anymore. “The RIAA reveals that more than 71,000 jobs have been lost as a result of illegally downloading music” (Amy Adkins). Music was very successful back in the past but now is being loss by music piracy. Artists dealing with people copying or stealing their creation without them approving of it. They also distribute the music and make money off of something that they never created themselves.
