Communication can be defined as an ongoing, dynamic and multidimensional process. In professional arena, the nurse is required to use critical thinking to focus on each aspect of communication resulting in effective therapeutic communication(BOOK). Being in health care field and as a student of nursing my attention went towards the therapeutic communication done by the nurse in regard to her client in the video which was very remarkable and I think it is very significant to observe this video as I am going to learn more about the therapeutic communication which is my chosen path for the future as I planned to be a healthcare professional. In the video, the nurse did not showed any emotional baggage that could get misinterpreted in communication, like feeling rushed and disrespected. Feeling rushed can lead patient to believe that they are not being heard or understood. As a nurse we are require to respond not only to the content of the patient’s message but also to the feeling expresses through verbal and non verbal cmmunication. Being attentive to what the client is saying, verbally and non- verbally, facing the client, open posture, and maintaining eye contact might give the patient a sense of comfort (stein-prbury ,2005). Therapeutic communication require active listening skills, attending to the patient, hearing what is being said and what is being not said and being able to communicate back to them in a way that indicate the nurse has heard and understood the message.
