Nurses engage the most time and contact with patients in the hospital. Apparently, they are the ones rendering care , organizing the nursing care plans , solving existing problems , providing health education to patients and most importantly they stand to be the agent of connectivity between the healthcare team (DeSilets, Lynore., & Dickerson, 2011 ). The foundation of a quality nurse-patient relationship is said to be essential in most situations for, it aids to have an effective communication amongst the healthcare team and the patient thus, helping in the betterment of the client’s condition and well-being. (Sheldon, 2009 ) In addition, by using nursing knowledge, skills, caring quality and professional conduct, the nurse can set up and maintain therapeutic relationship, which is rooted on the caring attributes of a nurse. In this essay, I would like to discuss how therapeutic relationships affect the nurse, patient and the health outcomes of the client. Additionally, I will discuss about the caring attributes demonstrated by the nurses.

The therapeutic relationship is regarded as one of the most relevant elements in facilitating the resolution of a patient’s existing problems. This kind of relationship focuses on the client’s health care needs. (Walsh , 2011). Moreover, it is a planned, goal directed and contractual connection amongst the patient and the nurse. (Mottram , 2011). A trusting relationship is based on trust, respect, sensitivity to the needs of others, providing service satisfaction using the nurse’s knowledge and skill. Without having a trusting relationship , no interventions are likely to be effective for the cooperation of the patient is greatly needed in making a nursing care plan. Moreover, this kind of relationship helps the healthcare team to effectively collaborate with each other thus , making it easier for them to work as a team and have a successful health outcome. To be a nurse is difficult . However, it is a very rewarding and a fulfilling career. It is not merely just a profession or job that saves life, but it is having the responsibility and commitment to serve others. What really makes a good nurse is making their patients their priority and having the caring attributes to surpass all challenging situations that may encounter in their everyday experience with their patients.
