Have you ever imagined the end of the world? If you never did, or even if you have, this novel will change your entire thought about the world and its natural disasters. Life as we knew it is a realistic fiction novel written by Susan Beth Pfeffer. In the story’s plot, the protagonist, Miranda and her loved ones face drastic lifestyle changes when the moon is pushed out of its orbit by an asteroid. Consequently, terrifying natural disasters happen that affects the world. Miranda and her family members face abounding challenges trying to survive. Therefore, the theme of Life As We Knew It is to have perseverance and hope no matter what because hope and perseverance helps people to be calm, think positively, and always brings a reward at the end. …show more content…

In Life as we knew it, it showed that the moon was closer to Earth (Pfeffer 19-20). Normally, this made people panic and feel terrified, however, Miranda and her family had perseverance and hope that the world isn’t harmed yet, which helped them to stay calm. This was shown when they were calm enough to check the situation by looking at different radio stations and also their phone signals. Without the hope of the world being alright, Miranda and her family wouldn’t have been able to stay calm. Hope and perseverance helps Miranda and her family stay calm.
Furthermore, hope and perseverance helps people to think in the positive. The novel shows that Mrs.Nesbitt knows that she will die soon, but has hope to die peacefully (209). This shows that she’s hoping for a peaceful death and it is helping her to think about how she wants to die. It makes her feel positive since she isn’t just thinking about death itself but about a peaceful death. Hope and perseverance help Mrs.Nesbitt to think of dying peacefully instead of just the dreadful fact,
