Diary Of Anne Frank Hope Analysis

In the sources used, the situations that are experienced seems like there is no hope to be found, only fear. Fear will protect us, we hope. Nevertheless, hope is everywhere no matter what. For World War II in The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne Frank is the secret annex’s hope. Anne Frank is a 13-year old girl that has the most hope of surviving the Nazi Invasion. All you can think is, “Ah, the Nazi’s are coming! Run for your lives!” That is what went through many minds during this time period, fear. Fear is a strong ally to have. You can worry all the time and no one will stop you. But, hope can be an even stronger ally, if you believe.
Hope isn’t just a word, it’s a feeling. Moreover, it’s a word, a feeling, and a desire. In the Urban Dictionary it defines hope as, “A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. A feeling of trust. To want something to happen or be the case.” So it’s true, hope isn’t just a word. In The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne has

more hope than everyone in the annex combined. Enough hope to even save her family.
Even though Anne had the most hope in the secret annex, she had fear as well.

Anne is one of the hopeful with fear. In The Diary of Anne Frank, on page 10 in Act I she writes,“A few days ago, Father began to talk about going into hiding. He said it would be very hard for us to live cut off from the rest of the world. He sounded so serious I felt scared.” Even though Anne had strong hope, she got scared of what was going on. Reality will strike in everyone, and it will scare almost everyone. This is where fear comes from.
In addition to The Diary of Anne Frank, hope is also shown in the piece Night written by Elie Wiesel. When young Eliezer is faced with possible death with his family. He and his father are separated from his mother and sister. As they march on they get closer to their death, a fiery pit. Then, at one point a man says, “You must never lose faith, even when the sword hangs over your head. That’s the teaching of our sages….” Faith is a way to show hope, and faith will never fade within

us.
Fear is another weapon to have with you in life. Fear may protect you for a limited time, but it will not stay with you forever. In the Urban Dictionary, it describes fear as, “An unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. To be afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or threatening.” Like hope, fear can be found anywhere. Everyone has fear in their lives, no matter what.
Consequently, hope and fear are two powerful allies to have during a frightful experience. Anne and Eliezer have both experienced hope and fear, a little more than others during World War II. But, which one is a stronger feeling? It all depends on your perspective. If you think hope is stronger, you fear you chose the right path. Yet, if you believe fear is the strongest ally, you can only hope you’re correct.
