It’s no secret that sometimes great discoveries come as a result of really big mistakes. But are they always worth the problems they cause? Sometimes the mistakes lead to greatness, and sometimes they lead to disaster, but it is clear that mistakes are key to discovery. The three reasons I know that mistakes are key to discovery is that you learn from mistakes, there have been discoveries from accidents, and without accidents and mistakes, no one would ever learn from their mishap. When you make a mistake, you learn not to do the accident again. This gives you experience and helps you get better for future events. Accidents also gives you wisdom that tells your brain to not do it again and you improve the incident. This will give you a better understanding when you do something a second time. Even though there are bad things that come from mistakes, there are also good mistakes that lead to good discoveries. An example of this is Percy Spencer with is chocolate bar. He had a chocolate bar in his pocket it melted because he was near a microwave, which is from source 2, paragraph 16. If you don’t learn from any mistakes that are made, you can never improve on something. A quote that supports this is “Probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery” by Samuel Smiles, Source 4, paragraph 23. The final reason is about how many mistakes have guided to discoveries. The two biggest example of this is “Lost cities, lost treasure” and “How a Melted Bar of Chocolate changed Our Kitchens.” In “Lost Cities,” the two men discover the lost city of Troy. In “Melted Bar of Chocolate,” Percy makes a mistake of being next to a microwave, also known as the “Magnetron” and melted his bar of chocolate.
