Aix Sponsa or the Wood Duck is said to be one of the most beautiful breed of ducks in North America. Just is name, Aix Sponsa, means “The Water Bride.” Ever since the first American settlers arrived in the eastern shores of North America people have been mesmerized by the beauty of this colorful animal. But instead of just standing there and marveling at it they hunted and used the Wood Duck as means for survival. This made the Wood Duck one of the most popular games ducks in North America. And by the turn of the 19th Century it was on the brink of extinction. And from 1918 to 1941 a ban was put on hunting the Wood Duck which allowed its population to climb out of any worries of extinction. And today the Wood Duck still has a high population due to conservation and regulations placed on it.
The Wood Duck itself is an amazingly colorful breed of duck ranging in many colors. The amazing thing about this breed is that the males and females differ drastically from their appearance. The males are more brightly colored with a dark body with bright red all over. Whereas the female is more plainer with more gray and blue. You can always tell if it s female and more importantly a female Wood Duck by seeing a distinct white ring around the eyes. When both male and females are in full wing spread the outer parts show as if there is an aluminum coloring which only o...
“Goose Pond”, written by Thomas Williams seemingly is a novel about the tranquil rural life but intricately portrays the mind and state of a fifty-eight year old man who has just lost his wife. Having natural and peaceful aspects, the story itself is not about the simple rural life in the woods. It depicts how Robert Hurley began to deal and come to terms with his sudden loneliness and realization of his eventual death. Including both the realistic cruelty of life alone and the expectation readers would have from a novel—such like a Norman Rockwell painting; he keeps the readers indulged in the mind and heart of the lonesome Robert Hurley.
And the new information about the number of beautiful birds used to furnish women’s hats caused further conservation movement. “It is high time for the whole civilized world to know that many of the most beautiful and remarkable birds of the world are now being exterminated to furnish millinery ornaments for womenswear. The mass of the new information that we have recently secured on this traffic from the feather trade headquarters is appalling. Subsequently, new policies and laws are created to give people equal access to wildlife.
Denotatively a bird is defined as a, Any of a class (Aves) of warm-blooded vertebrates distinguished by having the body more or less completely covered with feathers and the forelimbs modified as wings, often capable of flying. The authors/Glaspell’s strategic comparison of Mrs. Wright to a bird can be interpreted connotatively that she was a free,

An analysis of The Thing in the Forest written by A.S. Byatt through a Freudian lens. As Penny and Primrose spent their childhood through the war and unusual circumstances, their minds and consciousness has been molded in a unique way. Their consciousness has also been heavily influenced by the monster in the forest which resembled a penis and is affecting their adulthood due to the interrupted process of fixation. The story of Penny and Primrose correlate to the psychodynamic theory through their action and words; as well as penis envy conveyed through their development and adulthood.
My hypothesis that ducks have feelings is based off my own observations while using texts from other sources to support it. I used the article “Yes, Animals Have Feelings” which discusses how animals do have feelings to support my hypothesis. Balcombe states, “Their desire for rewards is part of sentience — the capacity to feel” (Balcombe). While observing the ducks I wrote down their behaviors and linked them with an emotion. Some of the emotions I saw in the ducks were happiness, trust, and caring. One of the observations I made was when many of the ducks were in the pond. The ducks would chase each other around in the pond as if they were playing. Before they began chasing each other I watched to see if there was a reason behind it such as taking food away from the other duck or irritating the duck in anyway. I did not notice any type of

The Cooper’s Hawk is medium sized and has rounded wings with a long rounded tail. Males are about 39cm and females are about 45cm. The tip of the tail may appear white at times. Some of the areas that the population of Cooper’s ...
Thanksgiving, traditionally, is a time of gathering families together to express our gratitude for one another over a large roasted turkey. According to the Huffington Post, one fifth of the total 235 million turkeys eaten in the United States are consumed on Thanksgiving Day (1). There are a number of different theories on how the turkey got its name. Some people say that Columbus thought that the land he discovered was connected to India which was known for having large flocks of peacocks. When he saw these strange large birds he thought they were related to the peacock family so he named them Tuka, which means peacock in the language of India (2). Others say that the name came from Native American’s calling them Firkee, which was later adapted to Turkey (2). Another theory is that the birds did not come directly from the New World to England. Instead, they came via merchant ships from the eastern Mediterranean Sea which were called ‘Turkey Merchants’ because a lot of the area was a part of the Turkish Empire at the time. Purchasers of the birds back home in England thought the fowl came from the area so they called them ‘turkey birds’ and soon after just ‘turkeys’ (2).
Nestled in the foothills of northern Maine sits a beautiful scenery of flowers, animals, insects, birds. Amongst these organisms a beautifully constructed log cabin of monumental size is nestled in the distance. Much of the land that is surrounding the log cabin has never been touched or even seen by man, but I feel like that is about to change. Many of the animals not ever seeing a human being in their life time are oblivious to humans and foolishly getting themselves in trouble. Much of the time I have spent there is during the summer times with my family. My family is an important part of my life, I have grown to have a close relationship with my grandfather and father and that is something that I could be losing. Most of the surrounding cabins are destroyed now. Logging. We are now in jeopardy of losing our cabin as well and all the family ties, tradition, relationships and secrets will all be lost if our cabin is destroyed. I need that cabin to stay because without it much of my childhood memories of my grandfather will be lost forever.
...ughout much of their continent-wide breeding range is proof that to manage wildlife; you need to manage their ecosystems. Wet weather, combined with abundant nesting cover provided by the federal Conservation Reserve Program, have shown that wetland and grassland ecosystems are what make or break duck populations. The same is true for all other species, game and non-game. (R. Holmes). (1)
My passion for duck hunting began when I met Bruce, a friend of my dad's who introduced me to the sport. He is a phenomenal man who really has a brilliant knowledge in the sport of duck hunting.
The time after the civil war, 1970-1900, shows many great social and economic changes. This period was called the Gilded Age, a time in which there was rapid growth in industrialization and the rise of big businesses. These changes will lead to the change in government during a time labeled the Progressive Era, due to the progression of political movements that looked to stop the government from favoring big businesses and instead focus more on the welfare of the individual.
Walt Disney had one of the most substantial imaginations this world has ever seen thus by creating the characters Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck. Walt used his own childhood life as an inspiration for his cartoon characters. His dad was a “stern religious fundamentalist, he readily disciplined his children with his belt. He also denied the children of toys, games, and sporting equipment associated with childhood.” (Walt Disney Business ) Disney grew up on a farm near Marceline Missouri, which happened to be one hundred miles northeast of Kansas City.(Walt Disney American) Disney had always enjoyed the country life. Disney had a difficult time getting an education due to his family 's constant moving but at the age of 16 he joined an art
