The Stolen Shades

This is a true story from when I was 5 years old. It was a warm summer day and I was 5 years old when this thing happened. Me and my mom were at claire's to find a present for my cousin’s birthday. When we first walked in I felt a split breeze and the smell of candy and roses rushed around the store.
I was so overwhelmed by all of the colors and bling in the store that I almost fainted. I was ready to leave until I saw a light shining from the corner of my eye. I turned around and saw the limited edition rainbow rhinestone sunglasses or so I thought. I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. There was a whole bucket full of them. When you looked into the bucket it blinded your eyes because of all the shiny rhinestones and I was dying to have one. I didn’t want to ask my mom for them because I knew she would tell

I was petrified on the inside but I went over to the basket for the glasses. I was hidden behind one of the shelfs so my mom doesn't see me. The basket was right in front of me and I was about ready to pick up the sunglasses until I realized that the security cameras would see me. I stopped in my tracks and was frazzled. If I stuffed the glasses in my pocket right then and there what would happen? I decided to take the safe way and ran over to the fitting rooms to stuff the sunglasses in my pocket.
“NIDHI!!!!”
I heard my mom calling me but while I was coming back I got this wheezy feeling in my stomach. I didn’t know what to do but I went along as it was normal and we left the store. We were half way out the door until I realized that the door alarm didn’t go off. After that I thought I was a master escape artist. (P.S I thought that master escape artist meant thief when I was little). At one point while leaving the store I was about to blurt out that I stole the glasses but to stop myself I had to hold my breath. My mom saw me holding my breath and
“The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak is narrated by death and begins when Liesel’s brother dies on a train with her and her mother. At her brother’s burial, she steals her first book, “The Grave Digger’s Handbook” and soon after is separated from her mother and sent to live with foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann, in Molching, where the majority of the book takes place. At school, Liesel is teased because she can’t read so Hans teaches her to read when she wakes up from her frequent nightmares about her brother’s death. Hans is a painter and an accordion player and also plays the accordion for her after her nightmares. Liesel grows very close with Hans and also becomes close friends with her neighbor Rudy Steiner who constantly asks her to
Walking out of our house, into the car and driving away to the bookstore, a little ways away we were being watched by someone.
Reading Liliana Heker’s story called “The Stolen Party”, it gave me an outlook on the way rich people see us wealthy people in todays society. While reading the short story I had various ideas of what the situation was. I felt as if at first, maybe Señora Ines was a sweetheart and wanted Rosaura to feel welcomed, but after reading the part where Señora Ines puts her to do all these different tasks, I was somewhat confused. However, in the end when Señora Ines hands to Rosuara two dollar bills rather than one of the toys she handed to the other kids, it leads me to believe that Señor Ines is in fact a snob and her appearance in society.
When the lift doors opened at the sixth floor, a wave of dim light and buzzing voices greeted me. It was as if I'd taken the lift to a dark movie from the 70s. Facing me was the entrance to a supermarket selling all types of candy, weird foods, and random home items. Wondering what about the market attracted so many eyeballs and footfalls, I began walking around the floor, and then from floor to floor, observing the many stylistic and curious shops.
Finding beauty in ugly situations was a theme that was very key in the development of the Book Thief. This can be seen many times in the text and really brings the whole story together. Keeping a positive attitude in a bad situation and finding the good things is what keeps Liesel’s happiness. She may not have the best life yet she has a very positive outlook on life. It doesn’t matter the situation, you can always find happiness.
We went ahead and shopped for some souvenirs. I believe I my mom bought me a Batman tee shirt, along with a few other things I could not recall. Then I saw a store that sold candy. Walking in I saw a diverse variety of sweets, and they had everything from chocolate to lollipops. My eye caught a little container full of gummy worms, and I decided to a bag full of them. Once my mom purchased the candy, we began to head out. I remember walking next to my father. When suddenly, boom! I ran into a ginormous window, and my dad walked through the door. My parents and the young lady working the cash register began to laugh. My mom said, "Are you okay?", "Yes, I am fine.” I said. She looked at my forehead, and she noticed I had a small bruise. My mom thought it best that we sat down for a few minutes. I thought we should go on another roller coaster. We ended up getting on The Superman Krypton
The sun had just set and all the street lights had begun to turn on to help see through the dark alleys. Just before we began to close the store something surprisin...
When I returned home the town had a slightly darker tone to it. The bookstore was just as I remembered it. Caroline had taken great care of the place. I entered the store with the newspaper like I always did I was so excited to Martin and Caroline and I was proud of what we’d done. Martin told Caroline to take the rest of the day off. When she left we kissed again. We were both more mature with our feelings and accepting of our
In The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, beauty and brutality is seen in many of the characters. Rudy, Liesel, and Rosa display examples of beauty and brutality often without realizing what exactly they are doing, because it is a part of their human nature. Zusak not only uses his characters, but also the setting of the novel in Nazi Germany to allude to his theme of the beauty and brutality of human nature. The time in which the novel is set, during World War II, displays great examples of beauty and brutality, such as the mistreatment of the Jews. As a result of this time period, the characters have to go through troubling times, which reveals their beautiful and brutal nature in certain circumstances. Zusak uses his characters and their experiences to demonstrate the theme of the beauty and brutality of human nature in the novel.
The time I was lost at Walmart, I was six years old I was mad about something and that’s when I started wandering off somewhere until finally I turned around my mom was gone I looked all around couldn’t find her anywhere the feeling of me being by myself without know one being here with me to protect me or be here with me, I felt like I lost her forever and that I can’t find her anywhere because Walmart was like a huge store so it was gonna be tough to find her, after a while I started crying and calling her name “mom!”, at that moment one of the employees at the store helped me find my mom by operating on this entercom and called her name luckily I knew her name because if I didn’t how else will I suppose to find her, next they called her
paid for the items, collected the bags and was about to leave the store when the blaring siren went off.
As time evolves, so do the words that are essential for our everyday survival. The most obvious difference between humans and animals is our ability to master the art of speech. Often, people will say the “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”, a simple nursery rhyme that helps ease a bullied child from abusive words and taunts. But does that really help cure the emotional pain? Words can illuminate and motivate the minds of people but can also shadow their self-esteem through psychological trauma. In The Book Thief, we see how fundamental words were to shape the reality of millions of people caught in the fire of World War II.
In my wallet, I store dire personal items such as my lisence and some pictures. Among other things, I have my money, like everybody else, and certificates for stores. This summer, I went to the Keys with my family. I drove down there with my wallet and took it everywhere with me, like I would any other time. Well, when someone doesn't have pockets, then it is hard to keep their wallet right next to them at all times. I was carrying my wallet out from the hotel, along with my keys, and set both on top of the car. When I figured out that I needed the keys in order to get in the car and turn it on, I took them off the top of the roof, leaving my wallet behind. I sat in the car, car door open, waiting for my dad to make it to the car so we could all go to a diving area. Once he made it to the car, without thinking, I closed the door and started the car. I had been driving about half a mile before I realized that my wallet was no longer on my body. Immediately, I pulled the car over, and the next hour or so was spent looking for my wallet. All I could think about was what I would lose if I didn't find my wallet. The week before was my birthday, and I was given $60 to Best Buy and $50 to Auto Zone. Aside from that I had $3 in cash. While walking up and down the road that my wallet flew off on, my sister found my two Best Buy cards.
My dress was uncomfortable and while I thought it looked weird, my mother was convinced it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. It was already a rough start but I held onto that sparkling image of slow dancing with a boy who I had never even talked to. When I arrived at the dance, I was immediately met with disappointment when I saw the dark lights and heard the loud, hip-hop music.
It was a slow but hectic day for me and all I could think was showering, eating dinner and going to sleep. We finally arrived home and everything seemed to be normal. With groceries in hand, I decided to give my oldest daughter my keys to open the door. As we walked in, we stopped in shock and starred at each other. We looked around and noticed our home did not look the way we left it that morning. The first thing we noticed was clothes all over the living room floor and furniture. Then we noticed our large flat screen missing and that is when we realized our house had been broken into.
