Personal Narrative- Lost Wallet
A wallet, or purse for some, is a precious item in which most people carry things more essential than money towards everyday life. If some people were to lose
that portable safe, they may be offset for the rest of that day. The person without that wallet could be cranky or depressed for a while. Maybe something of great sentimental value was in that wallet. This person could stay hold these feelings for a long time, until they find their belongings by which case they are filled with joy. I, personally, keep anything I may have interest in knowing where it is, in my wallet. I am very good about always having my wallet and never losing it...until recently.
In my wallet, I store dire personal items such as my lisence and some pictures. Among other things, I have my money, like everybody else, and certificates for stores. This summer, I went to the Keys with my family. I drove down there with my wallet and took it everywhere with me, like I would any other time. Well, when someone doesn't have pockets, then it is hard to keep their wallet right next to them at all times. I was carrying my wallet out from the hotel, along with my keys, and set both on top of the car. When I figured out that I needed the keys in order to get in the car and turn it on, I took them off the top of the roof, leaving my wallet behind. I sat in the car, car door open, waiting for my dad to make it to the car so we could all go to a diving area. Once he made it to the car, without thinking, I closed the door and started the car. I had been driving about half a mile before I realized that my wallet was no longer on my body. Immediately, I pulled the car over, and the next hour or so was spent looking for my wallet. All I could think about was what I would lose if I didn't find my wallet. The week before was my birthday, and I was given $60 to Best Buy and $50 to Auto Zone. Aside from that I had $3 in cash. While walking up and down the road that my wallet flew off on, my sister found my two Best Buy cards.
It’s not about the items; it’s about what they are used for and what they are worth. The novel The things they carried was written by the author Tim O’ Brien. The main characters that are presented in the novel are Jimmy Cross, O’Brien, Rat Kiley, Henry Dubbins, and Norman Bowker. The novel provides insight to the reader that the point of view is by the author himself. He is the one who narrates most of the stories. Tim O’ Brien makes up stories to cover up the truth and to makes people in it seem more human. O’ Brien gives the reader insight on some stories that grasp their attention and they end up not being true.
The briefcase possesses inconstant meaning throughout the novel. Awarded as a prize to him for his triumphs, the narrator first views this object as a sentimental representation of his greatest achievement and future desires. He states “My fingers a-tremble, I complied, smelling the fresh leather an official looking document inside. It was a scholarship to the state college for Negroes. My eyes filled with tears and I ran awkwardly off the floor,” to show how the briefcase stimulates his emotional epiphany of his dreams being within reach (Ellison 32). By telling the narrator that he should “Consider it a badge of office,” and that the briefcase “. . .will be filled with important papers that will help shape the destiny of your people,” the superintendent and Board of Education present the idea that the narrator can make a difference in society, as long as it is within their circumstances (Ellison 32). This incident allows Ellison to portray the idea that society places labels on individuals to manipulate them into complying with specific structure and order. Knowing this, the narrator finally accepts his history, which gives him the ability to find himself without trying to hide what is a part of him. After the narrator burns the identities that society gives the narrator, the briefcase allows him to accept his history and true identity.

One’s personal possessions usually have value to them because they are something that a person can truly claim as his or her own. The most desirable and most valuable possession would naturally be love. With love some, but not all, desire material possessions. Last, everyone desires security to complete the last piece of the puzzle.
Each person carries things with them, whether it’s a purse, or a backpack, or a slim wallet slid into their pocket. They may not carry these physical things all of the time, but these staple items are with more than they’re not. The become a part of the person’s identity. They become emotional burdens for the person to bear.
A little later that night someone entered my garage, which was so conveniently unlocked. They first rummaged through my dad’s van outside and I think they stole his coat, a tape and a few rolls of film. They also sifted through my mom’s car looking for something to steal, only to find a few motivational tapes. Surprising enough they passed those including one on "Getting Rid Of Guilt." When they got into my car however, they decided to take most of what I had. They stole my CD player, taking part of my dash with it. They also took most of my CD collection and the liner to my new Columbia coat. They even took my flashlight. They then vanished as quickly as they had come.
