The Pros And Cons Of Two Religions

2411 Words5 Pages

In our current day and age, there are many religions as the chart above shows. Some of which may appear similar. These religions may be superficially the same; however, they have very distinct doctrinal differences. For example two religions may believe in a heaven and a hell, but the way correct way they think to get to heaven can be completely different. There are also many religions who believe in Jesus as the son of God; other beliefs say that he was just a mere man or a prophet. C.S. Lewis is a renowned Christian apologetic; before he devoted his life to Christ he said “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things that Jesus said wouldn't be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic on the level of a man who says he's a poached egg -- or else he would be the devil of hell; you must take your choice” (Lewis). Many religions believe in a higher power. Some religions like Buddhism, believe in many gods. Other religions say that there is only one god.
The first reason that supports that religions are superficially the same is that some religions believe that humans go to a heaven or a hell. Other religions believe that humans will be reincarnated after they die, and other religions believe nothing happens at all. Some religions who believe in a heaven or hell, say that their fate is decided by actions, and others say that it by grace. There are many more religions and many vary beliefs of the afterlife, but Christianity is unique. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gotquestions.org said “Only Christianity teaches that salvation is a free gift of God through faith in Christ” (Houdmann). So because of that Christians have a large difference between them and all the other religions of the world.

Another example is that Christianity and Islam both are monotheistic religions and both religions believe in a higher power who created the universe, who is eternal, and who is all powerful. While they may appear similar, all religions have a core difference. For example, the differences between Christian beliefs of the afterlife and the Mormons view on what happens after death. Also the difference of whether or not Jesus died for the sins of the world. In addition is the fact that most religions have a different view on who God is and what he wants from his people. Overall it is easy to see how religions can be similar, but it is also very easy to see how each religion is doctrinally different. “Now is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It won't last forever. We must take it or leave it” (Lewis).
