In today’s world, given the turmoil that sometimes seems to be caused by religious
differences, it is easy to see each religion as a monolithic entity existing separate from
other religions, and thus representing starkly polar worldviews. Often, such notions arise
as a result of not utilizing a cultural studies approach towards studying religion, which is
arguably the best approach for understanding the role of religion in one’s daily life. The
cultural studies approach, which examines the particular context in which one interprets
his or her religion, is particularly important when it comes to understanding religions like
Islam, whose adherents come from vastly different backgrounds. Through the cultural
studies approach, which is arguably much more interdisciplinary than the textual
approach, we see that one’s interpretation of religion is strongly influenced by factors
including social, political, educational, and economic aspects of life, as well as one’s
particular historical backdrop; this then makes the arts and literature a unique window by
which we can observe a particular culture’s comprehension of the religion (Infidel of
Love 10). These creative responses thus are my own response to my understanding of
Islam, and intertwined in these works, then, are not only lessons from the classroom, but
my own personal experiences, which have themselves been shaped by the economic,
social and cultural backdrop in which I have grown up.
Asides from the different cultural backdrops in which one can interpret Islam, it
is also crucial to understand the fundamental divisions that have persisted in Islam, from
Sufism, Shi’a, to Sunni groups. Understanding these different communities of

Because of these applications and implications in human lives and existence, religion should be understood deeply, particularly, on how it affects the world. Looking at the American perspective of the term "religion," it could be simply understood as images of church, worship, traditions and other sacred pilgrimages. However, religion is more than that. It bears and carries heavier implications and definitions that cannot be merely based on practical applications and references. This influenced the overall development of their cognitive skills and emotional capacities.
People who practice the Abrahamic faiths of Judaism, Christianity and Islam collectively comprise over one half of the world’s population, and while disparities between these three religions are widely spread and politicized, the similarities between their religious texts outweigh their differences. A crucial similarity between these three religions is their view on Abraham as their spiritual patriarch (lecture). The Koran makes use of both the Tanakh and the New Testament, and while minor differences exist between these texts, the perspectives they share are far more significant. The Koran retains many of the core ideas found in the Tanakh and the New Testament, specifically in regards to the perception of Abraham, the status of God, and the role of women. Any religious text can be interpreted in any number of ways, and while it is easy to pull apart texts of different faiths and dissect the differences, finding common ground and similarities is arguably more important.
They have different lifestyle beliefs such as beliefs of praying, eating, and social limitations which restrict the fact that they can purely, peacefully coexist together in a diverse society. All of these religions have different beliefs of when and where they worship, such as Muslim people pray five times a day and their holy place is a Mosque. Christian people pray on Sundays at Church and the Jewish people pray Friday night to Saturday night and their holy building is a Synagogue. These religions have different ideas about when and where they pray that make them very different. Because these beliefs of when and where to pray are so different, it makes it very hard to think that these people will be able to totally respect and understand other religions without the need to be defensive or offensive to their own and other people’s religions. People who come from different areas may have same cultures and language while people who come from different countries may eat different food. However, people who live in the different places may have different religions. Two different religions that have a certain differences are the Buddhism and Christianity such as lifestyle, beliefs, and vies on universe. Although the Buddhism and Christianity could share similarities in some ways, the differences between them are more significant.

Religion cannot be lived in textbooks, it is about the personal consciousness of those that believe and “their own account of their religion and its relevance in contemporary life” (Fisher, 1996).
