When you see the SPCA commercials, what goes through your head? Do you ask yourself questions like: How can someone do that to a puppy/kitten? Who can stomach starving and female dog after she just gave birth? Some people are so sick in the head that these questions do not pop in their heads. Can we protect these helpless animals? My targeted audience is everybody who love animals, all ages and genders. People treat their animals like family so they will notice when an animal is being abused or mistreated. Animal cruelty have been going on for years. The most common victims that are affected are dogs. Pit-bulls are one breed that is heavily involved in dog fighting and it given them a bad reputation. There were 1,880 cases reported in 2007 and 64.5 percent of those cases involved dogs. Animal cruelty is a crime and it is connected to a lot of serious crimes. There are multiple cases of cockfighting and dogfights that involve drugs which the …show more content…
They show the wounded and beat up animals to show what is going on in the world. What is happening with animals that should not be going on is right in front of people. Not every dead animal in the road is road kill. The other day I seen someone throw a kitten out the window. It was sad and hurtful. If we treated people like that in the United States it would be a problem. I think that abusing animals is a big problem nobody trying to solve. There are people out there who see animals as a property. Something that is easily replaceable and have no meaning in the world. They think it is okay to harm cats, dogs, and other animals. They have the mindset where they can harm others and feel okay about it. This is a very strong issue I take to heart because I grew up with a lot of dogs and cats, so I cannot see myself harming one. I plan to make a change for these animals who are in trouble and I am going to make people understand that animals help us out in a big
What a good way to urge viewers to donate money than by showing in the commercial pictures of sorry looking animals? The type of objects they use are cages, crates, and the animals. It targets any animal or anybody in reality because they can see that these animals are in need of help, also that these animals have been abused. This commercial has demographic is an extremely important factor in commercial productions, the fact that so many different people are susceptible to the pathos of the commercial to the point of tears. This commercial had a use of music and it also plays an important role in the use of pathos. The song “In the arms of an Angel” by Sarah MacLauchlan has a part that makes me sad every time I seen the commercial “There always some reason, to feel not good enough” (Sarah McLachlan SPCA, n.d.) and this is sad because these animals don’t feel good enough and you can tell by their
..., as well as the impact that the organization has on animal abuse. For example, “Thousands were rescued last year” and, “but for thousands of others, help came too late”. These are very vague facts and have no source to back them up. This means that the audience has no proof that thousands are being saved and thousands are being killed, they just have to take the word of the ASPCA. Without proper sources when presenting facts the commercial loses some of its credibility.
In an article describing the entire series of ASPCA ads that Sarah McLachlan appears in, the author states “that simple pitch has raised roughly $30 million for the organization since the advertisements started running in early 2007, making it the A.S.P.C.A.’s most successful fund-raising effort” (Strom). This article goes on to explain that many viewers are compelled to donate because they feel empowered whereas the animals being shown are helpless; the ads make the viewers feel like they can make a huge difference and this is a major advertising strategy. After further researching the success of this advertisement, it became clear that this method was not only used by the ASPCA but also in many other commercials that are aiming for donations from the viewers. It is found that people “are particularly sympathetic and likely to donate when they see sad expressions versus happy or neutral expressions” (Small & Verrochi). Based on this research, it is intentional that victims are pictured on charity appeals, such as this one, to elicit the responses that are believed to engender prosocial behavior. With that said, it is not a surprise that these ads were successful in bringing in donations for the
Currently, pit bulls have been reported by the media with very horrific and disturbing news of having attacked a child or being shot by a police due to aggression while some are reported to have been abused or neglected by its owners (Forderer and Unkelbach 534). And because the reports keep coming with heated discussions, more and more people have forged a frightening image of pit bulls even to the extreme of refusing to take care of such breed. Pit bull advocates claim that the dogs get a bad reputation considering that people should learn the dogs are not inherently aggressive. What the pit bull advocates would like to point is that the owners of the pit bulls should be considered guilty for mishandling of their own dogs. There are owners of pit bulls that even encourage the dog to be aggressive in order to fight and protect them in a wrong manner and wrong degree of training (Forderer and Unkelbach 536). Pit bull advocates claimed that a well socialized and well trained pit bull would be very intelligent and could be one of the gentle dogs imaginable.
...ports Illustrated cover photo of a pit bull (Pit Bull Rescue Central, "Breed Information”). Dog fighting made a comeback during the 1980s and the pit bull became the favorite macho dog for dog fighters. The dogs were trained to kill or be killed. Pit bulls were also the preferred guard dog for gangs, thugs and criminals. Since the supporters and detractors of pit bulls hold such disparate opinions regarding the ferocity of the breeds, it is only hoped that further discussion and education will help resolve the sad fate that awaits these unfortunate animals. Simply placing all the blame on the breeds will not solve the problems of dog fighting, overbreeding, aggressive training, and excessive euthanizations. Lastly, the biased, sensationalistic publicity of horrific dog attacks which has destroyed the reputation of the once beloved All American Dog must cease.
Dogfighting is a “sport” that pits two well trained dogs against each other in a fights until one dog cannot fight anymore. Dogs are often killed at these events, because some dogs are ruthless because their owners have trained them to kill. The fights last, on average, one to two hours, and can leave marks forever. Spectators are able to bet on which dog will win. Currently, dogfighting is a felony offense in all 50 states, and is a federal offense as well. Not only can the instigators of the fights be charged, but all spectators can be charged as well. Dogfighting was brought to the sports world in 2007, when star quarterback Michael Vick was found guilty of having a dogfighting organization and hanging 3 dogs for “not performing well in ‘testing’ sessions”. In 2001, Vick and 3 friends, Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips, and Tony Taylor started an organization which they called, “Bad Newz Kennel”. Vick also started his NFL career that year, and played for the Atlanta Falcons. When he got convicted in 2007, Vick was sentenced to 21 months in prison and 2 months in home confinement. Dog fighting may injure the dogs forever. For example, Georgia, a pitbull involved in “Bad Newz Kennels”, had her jaw broken at one time during a fight and her tongue is still messed up. Her tail also zigzags, and she has no teeth, they were all pried out of her mouth. Animal Rights would help Georgia and dogs involved in fights all around the country, so they know that they are safe [ALDF]. There are approximately more than 100,00 people in the U.S. involved in dogfighting. That number needs to cut down if the world is going to be a better place for people and animals to grow up in. That is why Animal Rights should occur more heavily in the
Roughly about 30% of all dogs are pit bulls that are taken to shelters which depending on the area that figure can raise up to 60%. Not every pit bull rescued were a part of dog fighting but John Goodwin, of the Humane Society, says most of the dogs have scars and marks to show for their fights. The fate of these dogs remain to a judge that determines whether the fight dogs need to be euthanized. Since these dogs were trained to be aggressive and attacks other animals 9 times out of 10 they are to be put down. The dogs that haven’t been a part of dog fighting fit into a family and shows no sign of
Animal cruelty is a rapidly growing nationwide problem. Animals are being battered and starved everyday. There are many forms of animal cruelty; some forms are scientific research, abandonment, and mistreatment.
Animal cruelty occurs all over the world. The human race has a major effect on the natural world, especially animals. Animal cruelty is an example of how man has taken advantage of his power. Those exhibiting cruelty towards animals have been proven to have a tendency to harbor violent psychological problems. Animal cruelty occurs all over the world. Fortunately, many countries have enacted laws and penalties to stop this harsh behavior.
There are many statistics that come with animal abuse. Did you know that 71% of all domestic violence cases state that the attacker harmed the animal(s) as well (animalcruelty.weebly.com ; 5th dot)? 47 out of the 50 U.S. states treat animal abuse as a felony(www.humainsociety.org/issues/abuse_neglect/ ;4th paragraph). In all animal abuse cases 64.5% involve dogs (1212 cases, mainly pitbulls), 18% (337 cases), and 25% (470 cases) involve other animals being harmed (www.humainsociety.org/issues/abuse_neglect/facts/animal_cruelty_facts_statistics.html#.u3E...
Seeing maimed animals are not pleasant images. Those images sometimes appear across computer and television screens. The advocacy groups who place these images in the public’s view are trying to jolt people into the realization that abuse exists. For every ten seconds that goes by an animal is getting abused (“Animal… Statistics”). One statistic states that “71% of pet-owning women entering women’s shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed or threatened family pets for revenge or to psychologically control victims; 32% reported their children had hurt or killed animals” (“Animal… Violence”). Animal cruelty comes in several forms, some of which people do not know. There is animal experimenting, animal abuse, and mistreatment of animals. and through revealing the results from research, one discovers the horrific effects of animal abuse.
Animal cruelty is everywhere even in the country where the animals are raised for food. People beat, torturer, and even give animals drugs to make them high. When people are convicted of animal cruelty they basically just get a slap of the wrist, the court system does not charge them for anything. The reason they do not charge people for this is because the court system does not see them as people, we see them as animals but they also feel like us. We cannot stop people from doing things to animals but people can give them more time for what they did, the law put people away for murdering other people because they are humans.
Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
The world is constantly trying to invent and find new forms of entertainment. This being said, people often find pleasure in watching animals. When thinking about how animals are used in the entertainment industry, it seems that in most cases they are being mistreated. Owners of such animals that are neglected lack the care and knowledge to provide for them. This is a social issue because not only do we use animals for our own enjoyment, but we uproot them from their natural habitats and take them away from their families.
