Should animals have to go through pain and suffering? Should they have to go without food and/or water? The answer is no. Animal abuse happens everyday and it happens because people are barbarous or because they don’t know how to take the best care of an animal that they have. Whatever the reason it’s still not right and will never be okay. This paper will cover a brief history of animal abuse, the statistics, the signs of animal abuse, and what can be done to stop animal abuse. Animal abuse needs to end for the animals that can’t speak for themselves. Animals have been abused for centuries. The famous animal abuse of the 1800s was cockfighting, or fighting with domestic roosters; today this is outlawed in 48 states and the District of Columbia (www.aminallaw.info/articles/dduschick.htm;3rd section 3rd paragraph). Several of the societies against animal cruelty were around in the 1800s, but they weren’t recognized until 1873 (www.americanhumane.org/about-us/who-we-are/history/:first paragraph). The leader of the first recognized organization was Mary Ellen, who had 27 clubs is 10 United States(www.americanhumane.org/about-us/who-we-are/history/ ;first paragraph). There are many statistics that come with animal abuse. Did you know that 71% of all domestic violence cases state that the attacker harmed the animal(s) as well (animalcruelty.weebly.com ; 5th dot)? 47 out of the 50 U.S. states treat animal abuse as a felony(www.humainsociety.org/issues/abuse_neglect/ ;4th paragraph). In all animal abuse cases 64.5% involve dogs (1212 cases, mainly pitbulls), 18% (337 cases), and 25% (470 cases) involve other animals being harmed (www.humainsociety.org/issues/abuse_neglect/facts/animal_cruelty_facts_statistics.html#.u3E... ... middle of paper ... ... Therefore, animal abuse is a growing trend in today’s society. This trend is bad for today’s society for reasons including death row for the animals, an increase in cost for animal shelters, and a decrease in space for the animals to be safe. Society can stop animal abuse by reporting anything they might see. Together, our society can put a stop to animal abuse, and protect our domesticated pets.

There is a strong link between domestic violence and animal abuse. According to the CDC; killing, harming, or threatening to harm animals are weapons abusers use against their victims to manipulate them into silence and take away the comfort of the animal. According to the ASPCA “Twelve
Chicken processor family-owned Foster Farms has “announced that its fresh chicken products have earned humane certification from American Humane Association” (Foster). This program created in the early 2000’s submits all of the Western Foster Farm operations to stringent audits by the American Humane Certification program and its independent auditor Validus (Foster). “’We know that consumers want more choices for humanely raised poultry,’ said Ira Brill, Foster Farms Director of Corporate Communications. ‘Our longtime commitment to the welfare of our birds has made this possible and certification provides consumers with that assurance.’” (Foster). “The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association agrees chickens and other animals raised for food should be treated humanely while meeting the safest food standards for consumers” (Starkey). Not everyone is on board with the better welfare equals better profits
Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
Animal abuse has been going on in societies for many decades and centuries. Dating all the way back to ancient times. Different animals have been abused in different places and settings. Such as homes, science labs, farms, factories and so many more places. It is reported by the HSUS (The Humane Society of the United States) that nearly 1 million animals are abused and killed in a year. Thats a lot of animals abused and killed!
According to the Humane Society of the United States, 4 out of 5 animal cruelty cases go unreported. This means that millions of pets are being neglected or abused around the world. As man’s best friend, dogs make up for 70% of abused animals. Cats contribute 21%, and a total of 24% of other animals are treated cruelly each year (Animal Cruelty Facts and Stats). The mottle-furred cat you see slinking around the streets has most likely been neglected and kicked out of it’s home. The loveable dog you drive by every day has been chained in the same spot for way too long. It’s animals like these that need your help. Animal abuse is a cruel, inhumane act that everyone needs to be aware of and report because of consequences that are far more dire
Animal abusing has been a worldwide problem. There are two types of animal abuse,Intentional abuse and Unintentional abuse.Intentional abuse mostly happens in animal farms where millions of animals has been cruelly killed and suffer for years.Few examples of intentional abuse are killing an animal cruely, torturing and beating it,fail to provide them the basic needs such as shelter, food and water and fail to provide them adequate medical treatments.Whereas Unintentional abuse are still going on in all the countries around the world. It happen in many ways without people’s knowledge that their attitude towards the animals are cruel.Pet owners usualy train their pets by shouting and scolding them. This kind of attitudes create fear and it is identified
Animal abuse is so bad for animals. Many animals die each year because of animal abuse. Many animals have to be brought to a shelter, but some don’t always make it there. Animal abuse is when people treat animals, or an animal, with violence or cruelty. People don’t know how common or rare animal cruelty is, since it is never really reported. According to www.humanesociety.org, they say that the “Most abused animals are dogs, cats, horses and livestock. The most involved animal is dogs. Dogs take 70.1%, cats take 20.9%, and any other animals take 24.1%. Dogs are the most involved because they are the #1 animal to get abused. Each year, about 10,000 animals die each year due to animal cruelty”. Animal abuse is one of the most sickest and most
An animal is abused every 10 seconds (SOURCE). The abuse needs to stop. These animals are with us for their entire lives, while they are only with us for a part of our life. They are being tortured in experimental labs, at farms, and even at houses. Animals are getting abused all over the world, and if we work together to help the Animals Rights Movement, we can help animals everywhere.
For animal welfare and the causes of animal abuse new research has been created. Since animal abuse is fairly a new subject, new research is constantly brought up. In the Bahamas a study was done in the College of Bahamas, and it states that, “…dogs were equally likely to be considered members of the household in homes without domestic violence,” (Fielding 197). Homes with violence show that humans substitute human victims for animal victims. Animal rights activists are trying to break down symbolic boundaries betw...
Many animals are constantly being abandoned, starved, beaten, killed, forced to fight each other, experimented on, and taken away from their natural environment. All of that would fall under the animal cruelty category. Now people would say that they are just animals and that “beating” is a way of discipling them to learn how to behave or that they are trying to save them for being killed in the wild. Animal cruelty is shown in different ways such as having exotic animals as pets, doing experiments on them as “research” for human medicine, and killings performed by animal shelters where they are suppose to be kept safe. This will soon become a problem not
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
Animal Cruelty has many forms, many reasons and most importantly many victims. It is a growing problem in today’s society. Many people may wonder why people abuse animals. The thought is simple, however the answer is a little more complex, there are three main types of animal cruelty. The three reasons are as follows: unintentional, intentional, and cruel intentions. I will discuss each one in more detail.
Zoos, aquariums, and circuses do not treat animals with respect and kindness. They inevitably suffer from disease, pain, starvation, and fear so they will perform seamlessly for the public. Owners force their pets to carry out pointless tricks and performances and are almost always deprived of their normal behavior (Aquariums and Marine Parks).Workers within the facilities that the animals occupy rip them from their natural habitat. The wild animals will not live their full lifespan due to the mental and physical abuse that comes from the captive place they reside in (Aquariums and Marine Parks). Before performing, show masters inject their animals with various drugs because their natural behavior interferes with
