Animal Cruelty
Many animals are constantly being abandoned, starved, beaten, killed, forced to fight each other, experimented on, and taken away from their natural environment. All of that would fall under the animal cruelty category. Now people would say that they are just animals and that “beating” is a way of discipling them to learn how to behave or that they are trying to save them for being killed in the wild. Animal cruelty is shown in different ways such as having exotic animals as pets, doing experiments on them as “research” for human medicine, and killings performed by animal shelters where they are suppose to be kept safe. This will soon become a problem not

Even though makeup is safe for our skin, it does not have a positive effect on the animals that are experimented on. Rebeccah Zuazua, author of --------- said that they go through “ skin irritation, eye irritation??? it can also turn into severe damage to the animal, or worse—death.” (Zuazua,1). Did you know that if the animal was not been killed by all the toxic chemicals used on them, they are killed without any remorse. Zuazua also stated that in cosmetic testing “The animals have chemicals forced down their throats, into their eyes and onto their shaved skin in order to document their reaction to ensure the safe use for humans.”( Zuazua,1) And, that’s just to see if the product is safe and if it it will cause any “general illness or health hazards like cancer or birth defects ” (Zuazua,1). It is every sad that we are putting these animals at risk not only that but also was no remorse to what we do to this animals. We like to think that we as humans are the only ones that feel the pain and scared but we never stop to think that so do animals. The best way to stop animals from suffering is if we buy makeup that is animal friendly and does not test there make on them. You see if we stop buying makeup that is used on animals then the company stops making money which lead them to stop paying scientist to use the animals and that way they are not put through any more pain and
Animal cruelty is a rapidly growing nationwide problem. Animals are being battered and starved everyday. There are many forms of animal cruelty; some forms are scientific research, abandonment, and mistreatment.
In many parts of the world, animals are being used in laboratories are still suffering and dying to test cosmetics. In
“If you want to test cosmetics, why do it on some poor animal that hasn't done anything? They should use prisoners who have been convicted of murder or rape instead. So, rather than seeing if perfume irritates a bunny rabbit's eyes, they should throw it in Charles Manson's eyes and ask him if it hurts.” (DeGeneres, DG). Think about those animals imprisoned in cold cages, having nothing to do but wait, waiting in fear, knowing that when the time comes their cages will be opened, but not to set them free. Unable to react, unable to defend themselves, they rot in pain and mourn with isolation. And yet all we, humans, do is sit back and watch them suffer. Animal testing is the abuse of animals to develop new products. Although some people are against animal testing others agree that animals are needed in researches to find upgraded and new cures for developing diseases, to find advanced aesthetic products, and to find refine household products leading to a more satisfying quality.
Animal testing for products has been going on since the 1920’s, and cosmetic testing has been happening since 1938 (Murnaghan, "Animal Testing Timeline"), which means millions of animals every year since the 20’s have been cruelly and unneedlessly tested on. This unnecessary and cruel torture of animals needs to be stopped; animals should not have their corneas burned in order for people to have mascara and blush, especially when there are other, more efficient and accurate testing options available.
Sadly according to the Humane Society International (HSI) article About Animal Testing “in the United states alone around 26 million animals are tested each year for medical and commercial research” (HSI) even though animal testing is not required to ensure that the cosmetic being sold are safe. From those 26 million animals being tested most are not protected by the federal Animal Welfare Act. The animal welfare act does not include birds, rats and mice bred for research, and it doesn’t include cold-blooded animals. Animals testing should be banned because the animals tested suffer immensely, also animal tested is unethical, and because there are many alternatives.
Animal cruelty occurs all over the world. The human race has a major effect on the natural world, especially animals. Animal cruelty is an example of how man has taken advantage of his power. Those exhibiting cruelty towards animals have been proven to have a tendency to harbor violent psychological problems. Animal cruelty occurs all over the world. Fortunately, many countries have enacted laws and penalties to stop this harsh behavior.
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
Testing cosmetics on animals is a very controversial issue that has grown over the past years. I believe that cosmetic animal testing is wrong and should be banned because it is cruel, inaccurate, not very reliable, and has been proven to be unnecessary. Approximately 200,000 animals will suffer and die every year for cosmetics around the world. We as a whole have all decided that this is not necessary which is why we stopped making testing on animal cosmetics something that had to be done. Companies still continue to do it. Not only do you have the power to speak up for what you believe in, you can also start to vote with your dollar. Stop and look at your cosmetics to understand where you are voting.
The Cruelty of Cosmetic Testing on Animals Each year, thousands of animals are brutally tortured in laboratories, in the name of cosmetic research. A movement to ban animal testing for cosmetic purposes has been gaining popularity, with many companies hopping on the bandwagon against this research. New alternatives have been developed to eliminate the need to test on animals. This is only a small beginning of what is necessary to end these immoral acts. Animal testing in cosmetics is useless and cruel, and can be accomplished by other methods of research to end the suffering of animals.
The ugly truth is that animals are dying at the hands of their owners everyday, some in very violent ways that can be avoided given the right solution. Slaughterhouses, puppy mills, dog fighting, and so on, are just a few examples of how animals are being treated badly by people. Animal cruelty is a form of violence which, unfortunately, sometimes goes hand in hand with child abuse.... ... middle of paper ... ... Also, violence towards animals needs to be included in assessments for child protective services, in order to better prevent animals being placed in dangerous hands.
It still comes as a surprise to me that with all the technology in today’s society, we are still relying on animals for cosmetic research. Some people think that it is acceptable and even justified to test on mere animals rather than risk hurting people. So, for these kinds of people, animal testing makes perfect sense. However, in my opinion, animals are living creatures and have the right to live out their lives as nature intended rather than simply surviving in cages while being poked and prodded with whatever scientists fancy. I think it is depressing and sort of grotesque that I am using products that have been tested on animals that are even commonly bred as our pets. So, I began my research to find out what companies still test on animals, why they do so, and what other alternatives they could use in place of animal testing.
To make sure that these products are “safe” for humans, animals are tortured. Scientists pin the live animal (usually bunnies or dogs) to a board and force harsh chemicals onto their skin. Many people have high irritability to makeup, and so do animals. Rabbits are a very common animal used for makeup and beauty product testing. They are bred in harsh conditions where they have diseases from the tests or from the facility. They are kept in dark, metal cages and undergo so much testing that they soon become infected, stressed, or simply die. Mac is a big brand, and one would not expect them to test on dogs, but they do. It is very easy to find a cruelty-free makeup brand, which are usually cheaper and better quality than the non-cruelty-free brands. NYX is a popular brand, and they have makeup that is very affordable, as well as longlasting. Aside from makeup, animals undergo tests in the beauty and body-care industry, as well. This includes lotion, bath bombs, soaps, shampoo, and other necessities we all use in and out of the shower. Lush, Bath and Bodyworks, and the Body Shop are popular brands that do not test on animals and have good-quality products. Keep in mind that most of the products you buy cost more than just money, they cost innocent
Animal Cruelty has many forms, many reasons and most importantly many victims. It is a growing problem in today’s society. Many people may wonder why people abuse animals. The thought is simple, however the answer is a little more complex, there are three main types of animal cruelty. The three reasons are as follows: unintentional, intentional, and cruel intentions. I will discuss each one in more detail.
Animals have been an important part of scientific research since humans began expanding their knowledge of diseases, ailments, and other experimentation since the 1600’s. Following centuries later Europe created acts to prevent unusual cruelty towards animals used for experimental research. It was not till almost a century later that the U.S. passed Federal legislation for animal welfare. After the first law passed in 1966 others followed in the years to come, eventually leading to animal cruelty to be charged as a Federal crime. There are several different branches regarding animal welfare laws including varying degrees of cruelty and other circumstances. In order to charge someone with violating the act there are specific elements
Cosmetic animal testing has been a controversial topic for decades but has recently gained more attention from the media due to oppositional organizations such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Those in favor of animal experimentation make the argument that they are taking animals’ lives to save humans’, but is it really necessary to subject animals to torturous conditions or painful experiments in the name of science? Animal experimentation needs to be abolished because it is unethical and selfish to destroy an animal 's life.
