The Priesthood
For my project I chose to research the priesthood. In my paper I will tell you about priests, their daily routine, and provide an interview from a friend who is studying to be a priest.
There are several stages to becoming a priest. The first step is contact, which is when a man who is interested but is not quite sure that he should contact his pastor or the Vocations Director. A man would meet with someone and share his feelings and experiences in the community. The next step is becoming a candidate. This is a more formal stage and the man begins the process of interviews and meetings with people from the Vocations office. A person can be a candidate for one or two years in which they view what the priesthood is really like. The next step is becoming a Seminarian. This is when the candidate enters the Seminary. He is then sponsored by the diocese and begins his theological studies. Next the Seminarian becomes a transitional diaconate about one year before his ordination to the priesthood. At this time he makes promises of celibacy and obedience to his Bishop. Seminarians are also given courses on writing and giving homilies. They also write samples and receive feedback on them. Finally the last step is entering the priesthood. After a lot of prayer and hard work a man is recommended to the priesthood.
In preparing for the priesthood there are four main areas of study: the human, the spiritual, the ability to minister, and the academics. Spirituality is the study of prayer on an individual basis. The ability to minister is performed in supervised programs. While a man is at college he would take his ordinary courses plus his religious courses. After college he enters theology where h...

On the fourteenth of January 1809, Sebastian Wimmer was born in the small town of Thalmassing, Germany. His parents, Peter and Elizabeth Lang Wimmer, were tavern keepers. Sebastian’s desire to help other individuals was apparent at an early age, for he believed he had been called by the Lord to devote his life exclusively to the priesthood. The simple monastic life was enticing! Sebastian Wimmer was an intelligent young man. He attended the University of Regensburg, also known as Ratisbon, where he studied many classical and philosophical courses, and later studied law at the University of Regensburg. A scholarship opened up in the Gregorianum, and Wimmer felt obligated to learn more about it in pursuit of his study for the priesthood. Wimmer took the competitive scholarship exam. He was offered a scholarship and remained there until he completed his theological studies. On the thirty-first of July 1831, at the age of twenty-two, Sebastian...
We each receive our own divine call from God. Sometimes this call alines with our own aspirations and goals, and other times it doesn’t. After the reading Gary Selby’s paper on Vocation I was left uncertain if my career goals and works were the same as God’s vocation for me. I have chosen to major in Sports Administration to pursue a career in the Lakers’ front office. This might also be God’s calling for me but, I’m at an uncertain moment in my life to know for certain if this is my ultimate calling.

He loves being able to celebrate mass everyday and “enrich his relationship with the Lord.” He is able to use his gifts to walk with many in the community through hard times such as parents who loose their children or vice versa. With God’s guidance he can bring them to a place of understanding and peace. This past Holy week he was given the opportunity to give the homily for the Youth Rally mass. Being able to preach and exhibit a faithful fatherhood to over thirteen hundred youths was immensely exciting. He was luckily given the chance to expand his wings and further his call to not only priesthood, but
The story of the Knights Templar has been told many times. With exotic times and places with people of the highest ideals and bathed in mystery, a lot of the mystery of the Knights Templar comes from the lack of knowledge and writers playing around with the known facts. Templar history is really complex and not easily understood. There is mystery in how they formed, where they come from, their rise to power, why they fought in the crusade, what they did, their beliefs, how they fell from power, and where they went after their fall.
What is a chaplain? Traditionally a chaplain has been somebody religious who is given responsibility for a particular group, usually outside the church. Such groups could be: hospital chaplains, military chaplains, prison chaplains or school chaplains. How you define “chaplain” depends on where that chaplain is. Today, chaplaincy is a specialized ministry done by ordinary people, male or female. They are trained to offer care and support - personally, emotionally, physically, relationally and spiritually. They are there to listen and to provide a safe environment for people to share their feelings. They also help people work through life's issues and assist in times of crisis and difficulty. Put simply, wherever there is a need for care and support; there the chaplain needs to be. The purpose of this paper is to define what it means to be a chaplain and what is involved in being one.
Deep within the trees little hooded men walk along a path to meditate and pray dressed in brown robes tied with nautical rope. They dwell in silence and live a life of celibacy. This is what most of think of when we hear the word monk. Throughout the years, monks have always been people of intrigue. They live a different lifestyle than most. They live a life of seclusion far from the mores of modern society, which often makes people ponder who these people really are and why they choose to participate in such a foreign religious movement. This paper will attempt to unravel the mysteries of this peculiar movement of by researching it's origin, the true meaning of a silent lives, and how key leaders have helped to develop it one of the most popular movements in the history of Christianity. A movement called Monasticism.
The founder of this religion is Jesus Christ. The way Catholics perceive their belief on this religion is also extraordinary, Catholics is one of the most powerful religions that have more followers than any other Religion. They believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Son of the Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary is idolized in The Catholic Church. They believe that God sent Jesus Christ to die for their Sins. The book that the Catholics use is The New Testament also known as The Holy Bible. They use this book on the Holy Day, which is Sunday. On the Holy Day, they get dressed up in Sundays best and go to Mass. Mass is one hour and in that hour they sing along to hymns, receive sacred food such as bread and wine, and have a priest giving advice on how to live a sacred life. Catholics meet together outside of Church in their own time to spread their love to God and other people. An example would be the Youth Group, they invite teenagers to come and hear what kids their own age have to say about their savior. Catholics also have retreats for Teens, Women and Men. These retreats help them become closer to God and their community. The people that go to the retreat also help spread the Gospel once they are finished attending their three day retreat. If they have completed a retreat they have the privilege to work on teams. Not many information is available because what they do is sacred and a surprise for incoming

In the Catholic Church, priests are the moral authority. When one has questions with his faith he is taught that he can go to his priest for informed answers. In this paper I also hope to deal with how these priests failed their flock. They took advantage of men who came to them for help when in trouble and preyed on the little boys who came to the church for guidance. In addition to the tacit feeling that as a priest they will only do what is right, these men told their victims that they would deal with the moral implications.
Throughout the years, there has been constant debate to whether priests should remain celibate or should have the option to marry during priesthood. In Catholicism, the Church holds that celibacy is a gift of the Holy Spirit for the Church; therefore, it is not something negotiable. Many devoted Catholics view the idea of ending celibacy as an absolutely ridiculous thought, but there are many devoted Catholics who have the opinion that ending celibacy in priesthood could have a positive impact in Catholicism. The questions remain: Which is the proper choice? Do Catholics have authority to change tradition? As a raised Catholic and from a personal standpoint, I believe that celibacy in priesthood is beneficial and that its tradition is quite beautiful. Not only should Catholicism continue with its tradition because it is his...

Our area of study took place in two environments. The first outside the church and the second was inside the church. As the environment changed the parishioners’ interactions with the priest changed. The atmosphere changed. When the priest was outside the church he had several discussions with the ushers who assist in setting up for mass. When he spoke to a tall white male about organizing the handouts
My understanding of vocation is the path God has chosen for you to follow. Vocation is what you are destined to be.Vocation can come in many different forms. Some people are called to live a life dedicated to serving God, others are meant to be parents, while others are called to have regular working jobs. Vocation is not something that you are born knowing, it is often found through introspection and contemplation of what God is leading you towards. Finding your vocation is not an easy task, there are often turns and bumps along the way, that is why many people get divorced or hate and quit their job.
