Communication is derived from the Latin word known as communis which carried the meaning “to share”, which mean sharing of concepts, ideas, feelings, and emotions. Communication is a two-way process where it requires an exchange of and progression of ideas towards a goal. It is essential to identify the basic elements of communication in order for this process to materialize. The five basic elements of communication are sender, receiver, message, medium and feedback (Kaul, A., 2006).
The process of communication is separated into two phases. During the first phase, sender selects a message based on his ideas, behavior pattern and attention, encodes it and transmits it to the receiver through a medium (either oral, verbal or non-verbal). The receiver decodes the message as soon as he or she received the message and gives an internal response to the perceived message. The receiver then formulates his or her message, encodes it and transmits it back to the original sender. The second phase of communication process is referred to as providing feedback and this process is the most crucial elements in communication (Kaul, A., 2006).
We will briefly discuss three of the most popular communication applications for mobile devices, such as WhatsApp Messenger, LINE Mobile Messaging and Facebook Messenger. WhatsApp Messenger is cross-platform mobile messaging application which allows user to exchange message without have to pay for the messages. Communication involves the exchange of messages and is a process which all individuals participate in. Whether it is through spoken word, written word, non-verbal means or even silence, messages are constantly being exchanged between individuals or groups of people (Bach & Grant 2009). All behaviour has a message and communication is a process which individuals cannot avoid being involved with (Ellis et al 1995).
Communication is an interactive process whereby people seek to induce some form of change in attitude, belief, or behavior. (Moore, Hickson III and Stack, 2010, p. 5) It is the primary avenue that people use to send and receive messages through predetermined codes.
In its most basic form, communicating involves a sender who takes his or her thoughts and encodes them into verbal and non-verbal messages that are sent to a receiver. The receiver than decodes the messages and attempts to understand what the sender meant to communication. The communication is completed when the receiver transmits verbal and nonverbal feed back to indicate his or her reception and understanding of the message. This process takes place within a context; also know as rhetorical situation, which includes all that affects the communication process such as the sender-receiver’s culture, the sender-receiver‘s relationship, the circumstances surrounding the sender-receiver’s interaction, and the physical environment of the interaction.
The world is changing rather fast and the communicator has to keep pace with the change. However, there are certain elements in all effective communication and to communicate effectively these attributes are to be taken care of. The elements of effective communication can be discussed under several headings:
Collaboration begins with networking, coordination, and cooperation and then requires team members to share decisions, responsibility, and trust. It requires that team members invest time and energy to come up with options and design strategies for carrying out these plans. Because collaboration requires lots of time and energy, it is impossible to make all decisions collaboratively. In some instances, the desired result can be achieved through networking, coordination, or cooperation. Working together, or collaboratively, invites participation of multiple service providers and the use of multiple resources. See the Student Stories below for examples of collaboration in action.
Communication is the process of conveying information to each another using words, actions, or by writing the information down to be read by another person. Communication is something that most people do at some point each day, and is an important part of life especially in a working environment. “The concept of communication is an essential part of every profession, and it is required to foster and maintain healthy relationships”( Jasmine, 2009, para. 1).
A virtual team is a group of people working interdependently via various types of electronic media across organizational and geographical boundaries for a shared purpose (D’Souza & Colarelli, 2010). Research indicates virtual teams are becoming increasingly popular in organizations across the United States and the world (D’Souza & Colarelli, 2010; Rusman, van Bruggen, Sloep, & Koper, 2010). These teams vary in size, degree of geographic dispersion, prior shared work experience, nature of assignment, and expectations of a common future (Rusman et al., 2010). Although virtual teams have potential advantages like the removal of physical boundaries, the ability to form new partnerships, and optimization of competencies (Chinowsky & Rojas, 2003), they also introduce many challenges that may not be as prevalent in traditional teams.
Communication is the art of transferring the message from one person to another in a way that the receiver understands the message as intended by the sender. Communication is a two way process which requires a feedback to ensure the level to which the receiver has understood the message and decoded it in a proper manner.
Collaboration is a working method whereby employees work together to a similar purpose of achieving a business benefit. Collaboration can also be the ability to operate together in business to enhance performance and results. The combination of a number of factors may assist or steer collaboration to attain business results, via empowerment and technology.
Communication is an important aspect of processing and transferring information in our society. The important entities needed for a successful communication includes; a sender, receiver, message and feedback. First, the sender is a person or entity that is sending information to the receiver. After receiving the message, the receiver will attempt to decode the message and prepares a proper response (feedback). Communication is an essential part of our daily interactions; it can be seen used in businesses, for pleasure, sports, education and many more activities.
Human communication is all around us, from the minute we are born to the second we die, our vast minds and bodies are communicating, we when we don’t realize it we are communicating. Throughout this course, I have learned that communications vital to our success in our live and work, we are constantly saying things to other and the world. According to dimbleby et al(1992) Communication is a learnt activity and is provided by the media which forms a bridge between the sender and the receiver. In the process A speaker transmits a message and must ensure that the message is delivered clearly. A listener takes utterance of the message and must be an active listener and give feedback. Communication is a process that includes linear influencing and transactional views from different dimensional barriers (İşman et al., 2003).
