The Importance of Jesus' Suffering, Death, and Resurection
C.s Lewis wrote these words as he watched his wife die of cancer.
'' Pain is God's megaphone to rouse a deaf world. We can/are like
blocks of stone out of which sculptors carve the forms of men. The
blows of his chisel, which hurt us so much, are what makes us perfect.
We think that our childish toys bring us all the happiness that there
is and our nursery is the whole wide world. But something must drive
us out of the nursery to the world of others. And that something is
suffering.''
Some people believe that suffering is just meaning less and there is
no purpose to it. However some Christians believe that God can use our
suffering to nurture us into better people. This does not mean that
they think that suffering is good, but that it does not have the
ultimate power to destroy. To get them through the difficult times.
They use the example of Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection to
gain strength. In the following essay I will be exploring the
importance of Jesus' suffering for Christians.
Throughout Marks gospel, Jesus' suffering is emphasised dramatically.
Jesus went through mental and physical anguish. This was experience by
him in the Garden of Gethsemane when he pushed away the cup of
suffering, only to accept it and the fate that went with it. Jesus'
isolation is made even more apparent when his closest disciples fall
asleep. Then another follower, Judas Iscariot betrays him wit a kiss,
(Kataphilein in Greek). Two unfair trials then follow, one before the
Sanhedrin and the other before the roman leader Pontius Pilate. The
Sanhedrin paid people to give...

more of her. She devoted her life to help children and adults in the
slums of Calcutta. In 1976 she won the Nobel Peace Prize 'our love of
the poor' she says 'comes from our love of Jesus. We try to serve him
in the poorest of the poor'.
These are all examples of people following Jesus' example of suffering
and death for other people.
In conclusion, it is time to say that the suffering, death and
resurrection of Jesus is important for Christians. It encourages them
to remember that there is a purpose to suffering and God is with them
on their journey. The death and resurrection of Jesus encourages
Christians to see an example of vagarious love and come to the
realisation that death is not the end, merely the beginning of an
eternal relationship with god.
Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Savior, the Son of God, the Lord. Whatever you call him, he was undoubtedly one of the most important and controversial men in the recent history of the world. And at the basis of his importance was his crucifixion and resurrection. But what if this had never happened? What if he wasn’t crucified? If Jesus of Nazareth had died of natural causes instead of crucifixion; then world religious, political, and social structure would be entirely different. But why?
It has a red ribbon tied around its middle and is then thrown off the
The purpose of the Bible is for humanity to acknowledge their sins and build a relationship with God because our goal is to go to heaven. The Bible is also a guide for humanity because it demonstrates how to live life. For instance, the Bible states we should love the individuals we encounter as ourselves. Furthermore, some individuals question that if Jesus was not physically resurrected, then Christianity would be a false religion. However, after watching the video, I believe Jesus physically rose from the dead because there are many historical events to substantiate this claim.
Prominent figures like Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens have all argued that God does not exist. However, there is historical proof for God’s existence. Using different theories, this paper will show that God, the creator of the universe exists. The proof that God exists is also seen in the fact that we have a savior, Jesus Christ. Our compassionate God sent his son Jesus to die for all the world’s sin. The sting of sin is death, but thanks to God Christ took away this sting by dying on the cross. Jesus made atonement for sin. It is through Christ that we live. Paul wrote triumphantly in 1 Corinthians 15:55, “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” Similarly, Christians rejoice because we have victory over death.
Christianity has had a major impact in European history as the majority of the populations were Christians, and as many nations started out as Christendom. Even today, it has a profound impact in the decision making of nations and billions of people who follow its doctrine. Therefore, representing Christianity through the medium of art was an important factor artists had to consider. Many artists decided to paint the scene of the Crucifixion of Jesus as it is considered to be the most important scene for many Christians. Some artists, like Christus, opted for a more emotionally muted route while other artists, like Crivelli, went on to capture the emotional distress of the scene. Neither method is objectively better than the other as both artists
Many subjects have been spoken of over the history human beings. For some time it may have a world war, at other times a great recession, in another day it would have been a very fast athlete, at others the final match of Champions League and many more. Yet in all these occurrences that grip the human mind for some time there is no occurrence more spoken than the crucifixion of a man called Jesus Christ (Zugibe 33). His crucifixion has even been a study for the entire lifetime of many people. Institutions have been built primarily for the purpose of studying this crucifixion. Some have said this crucifixion has changed their lives. Others have retorted that it has lifted off their worries. It is widely known and embraced. However, aside from all this, with all the goodness this man Jesus Christ is preached to have, many wonder why he would be killed on a cross.
The resurrection of Jesus is a topic in Christian Apologetic that confirms the faith of a believer. Groothuis submits, “Of all the world’s religions Christianity alone purports to be based on the resurrection of its divine founder. No other religion or worldview makes such an audacious and consequential claim. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus himself predicts his own betrayal, death and resurrection.”1 The Bible reveals the importance of the resurrection in Corinthians 15:14-17, “And if Christ wasn’t raised to life, our message is worthless, and so is your faith. If the dead won’t be raised to life, we have told lies about God by saying that he raised Christ to life, when he really did not. So if the dead won’t be raised to life, Christ wasn’t raised to life. Unless Christ was raised to life, your faith is useless, and you are still living in your sins.”
If one was to look in the Bible and read through the entire book of
In this report we will deal with Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. This report we'll have as bible text the gospel of Matthew 27:32-50, and these verses will be analyzed verse by verse. It's very great to observe that all gospels talk about Jesus' Crucifixion in a larger section than others events from his life. There is a great reason: for Jesus this last part of his work means the finishing God's plan of salvation. Paul says he humbled himself, and become obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross (Philippians 2:8). So we will observe the following of event as Matthew wrote in his gospel.
According to Brooks (2014), people seek happiness but indirectly obtain several tests that affects their emotions in many ways. Indeed, when people are is questioned about their past, memories coming back to her mind are often the most important positively as negatively. A positive event can be the birth of a child, success. In contrast, a negative event is often links to death, failure, a dismissal, and so on. Suffering or pain also gives us an outside perspective. Without a doubt, suffering makes us human we like it or not. For example, when a friend tells that she has failed an exam and we realize that we could get it easily, it is hard to understand exactly her emotion because we have never been in the situation. But when the same situation arises and you become the concerned, you understand the effect that this failure may have on you emotionally. In this sense, we understand that suffering makes people human because it helps them to be connected to a situation already happened before or which could happen in the future.
Jesus’ crucifixion is a remarkable story in the Christian light. The story tells of how Jesus Christ was accused of blasphemy, then taken to Pontius Pilate for a ruling to be killed. Pilate found him innocent, but in attempt to find a reason to kill him, he let the crowd decide Jesus’ fate. Stirred by the Jewish chief priests, the crowds shouted, "Crucify him!"
When you look at the miracles performed by Jesus during his time on earth how can you question that he was the Messiah? Jesus performed so many miracles during his three-year ministry which makes it rather difficult to just choose a couple to speak about for this assignment. The basis of the miracles really depended on a person’s faith in Jesus before and after being healed. This is still a very important life lesson we as people of Christ need to continue to remember. Though it is easy to stray away from the faith in Christ and prayer, as the disciples witnessed hands on, we must constantly have a relationship with God to seek guidance in those troubled times. As a group we each decided to pick two miracles of Jesus’ ministry that stood out to us and had a lasting impression on the people experiencing them, the disciples, and ourselves.
Jesus says to the disciples that " the sorrow in my heart is so great
It has been said that Jesus was one hundred percent man and one hundred percent God. This is a concept that is hard to understand if you do not have the scriptural evidence to back up this fact. The first reason that Jesus’s humanity is so important is that it was necessary to fulfil the covenant with Israel. In the Old Testament the prophet’s, priest and Kings all spoke of someone who could bring redemption to the world that they could not. In Acts 10:38 it shows how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.” Even though Christ lived in the world he remained sinless and never once forgot his deity. When he received his anointing which was needed in order to fulfill the messianic purpose, he then was called Christ and Son of David.
One way humans have devised for dealing with the tragedy of death and the knowledge of mortality is to develop complex visions of what might follow death. In the religious tradition of Christianity, a focus on the belief of life after death is a central and indispensable tenet of their faith, however a wide range of ideas can exist. Christianity bases their beliefs of the afterlife on the various interpretations of biblical passages. Many times death in Christianity is followed by the admission to either heaven or hell, an ideology that is determined through how one behaves throughout their obeying God’s rules and regulations (Sumegi, 2014, Pg.111). Within the religious aspect of Christianity, great emphasis is placed on the ‘soul’ of the individual.
