In more general terms, it's simply about being able to articulate your needs and make decisions as to how best to meet your needs. There are five key areas of your life and it's vital that you take an active role in each of them. It means being in complete control over your feelings, behaviors, and thoughts. You can cope with the challenges that life throws in your way and despite that, you have no trouble keeping those issues in perspective. A setback is something that you bounce back from, rather than collapse under. You are able to maintain healthy relationships and you feel good about yourself. What it doesn't mean is that you're going to be happy all the time, but you will be more aware of the emotions you experience. You are able to deal healthily with both negative and positive emotions. People who are emotionally healthy tend to deal with issues more effectively, but they will still experience sadness, stress, and anger. The difference lies in their ability to manage those feelings and understand when a problem is too much to deal with alone, when to reach out for help, and when a doctor's advice is necessary. If this doesn't sound like you, don't worry because it's a skill that you can improve, and there are steps to get you there. Your emotional health is important, so if you want to realize your potential in life then you need to work to improve it. Individuals who are involved in self improvement ask themselves what the key to success may be. The key to success in life is, by far, self-reliance. Although there is nothing wrong with asking for or receiving help, the support of friends and family will only benefit us ephemerally. People go through their own personal journey of reaching the best version of themselves. That journey is best achieved with self-reliance. Nursing advocacy is a professional obligation and the standard of practice expected by the Ontario College of Nurses (CNO, 2009). The concept of advocacy is enshrined into the code of professional ethics that nurses “must promote the interests of clients in their care” (CNO 2009). To meet this standard the nurse must first ensure a deep understanding of advocacy and how it relates to the nursing profession. In Nursing, there will always be instances where the patient's nurse needs to advocate for their patient. There are numerous reasons why a nurse would advocate for their patient ranging from getting the doctor to change the patient’s orders, helping the patient’s treatment team understand what it is the patient is requiring for the day, to expressing the patient’s last wishes before death. In every situation, the nurse should do what is in the patient’s best interest. Tomajan (2012), “Advocacy skills are the ability to successfully support a cause or interest on one’s own behalf or that of another. Advocacy requires a set of skills that include problem solving, communication, influence, and collaboration”(p. 2). With those skills, the nursing staff will be able to work together to advocate for their patients. Along with those skills, nurses need to keep in mind the three core attributes that are: safeguarding patients’ autonomy; acting on behalf of patients; and championing social justice in the provision of health care. In order to understand how one perceives situations and how they can determine the way one communicates; we first must understand the value of self-concept. Self is easily defined; it is one's beliefs, attitudes, feelings and values. It is who one is and what one stands for. Self-concept, is a relevantly stable set of perceptions and emotional states. It is the way one sees and understands oneself, and contributes to how one perceives oneself and perceives situations. One's self-concept may alter their perception, and either enhance or impede one's communication effectiveness. The way one sees oneself can influence the way they see their social surroundings. Only after one become aware of oneself can they be aware of their physical and social surroundings, which will allow one to perceive situations and people with a truer idea and create a more positive outcome.
In some instances, case managers may fall short when it comes to effectively meeting the needs of a potential client or patient. However, the key point of it all has to be committed. We must strive for the well-being of people despise the feeling that we might feel because of the role of government and policy. According to Dr. Doris Jeanette, PsyD., Emotional health is determined by the amount of emotional security you feel. If you are relaxed and secure in your everyday life, you are an emotionally healthy person. Someone who is emotionally healthy has an open heart and relaxed body. Emotionally healthy people have higher self-esteem and low anxiety. You are not going to have a negative auto-response to stressful or difficult situations that arise in your daily life. Instead, you will be able to maintain a calm disposition and be patient with yourself and others. You are not likely to be judgmental or critical of others because you have learned to not be judgmental and critical of yourself. Emotional health means you are able to address and identify with your emotions as opposed to avoiding or suppressing them. In order to be an emotionally healthy person, you must be able to express your emotions in and assertive but healthy way. You cannot reach emotional stability if you are unable to address your feelings or hide from them.
I realised that self-awareness is important in achieving self-improvement. The more an individual understands themselves, the better he or she is at adapting life changes that is according to their needs. The more self-aware we are, it improves the level of confidence we have on oneselves. This can be achieved through greater exposure, thus widens one’s experiences and will be more likely be more accepting of others. Self-awareness will also benefit us to be more accurate in accessing
