I can honestly say I have been able to gain a vast amount of knowledge from ATH 111. This course has allowed me to change my behavior, such as the knowledge I now know, the skills I now have, and the attitudes I now show. I have experienced many changes in what I know, feel, or can do as the result of this course. One big change is that I have more of an appreciation for other cultures. I have always been a very open and welcoming person, but sometimes to be honest I jump right to judge someone for what they may have done, that in my culture does not make sense to me. With that being said, I have also has the experience and time to have a better understanding of not just other cultures, but my own cultural values, norms, language, and many …show more content…

Seeing it in real life is so cool, and I feel like I am even a better person than when I came into this class, because I never noticed how consumed I really was in my own culture and never really paid attention to all the other cultures around me. It has been amazing to learn about all the different culture, even around the world, and even learning more about my own too. In my every day life I can be more open, compassionate, understanding, grateful for every culture. I feel I do not have the right to judge someone, like I use to, just because it is not normal for me to do something they decide to do or say. For instance, I use to be so against and confused why men and woman in other cultures would marry more than one woman or man. I also have a better time understanding symbols and different languages, such as hand signs and slang of other cultures. It is funny to now know that all of what I am now seeing has been out there all along, and If I had just opened my perspective and mind up to the world I would have seen it all along. The world is beautiful, and every one is different, which makes each culture unique and equally accepted. One day, such as if I move, I may have to go through enculturation, which is …show more content…

I am able to take everything I have learned as a whole and when I watch the movie, I can see all the different things and start to pick up all the concepts learned in this course. I never realized I would ever truly see these things or be more aware of these concepts and actually see all of them while watching Guardians of the Galaxy. I have seen the movie a few times before, and when I watched it again for the final project, knowing what I had to look for, I can see it immediately. I also saw it in a different light than I did, without knowing a lot of the concepts I do now. I never realized all the different languages, relationships, symbols, power, politics, enculturation, assimilation, ethnocentrism, and belief system there are in within this film. I am able to truly analyze the film and have a better understanding of the movie. When I am watching the movie and writing up my analysis and notes, I am also able to relieve all judgment. I have been able to have that open mind and understand why, instead of jumping to a conclusion or being biased. My writing allows for more analysis on the film, instead of the whole paper being opinions of mine and judging every character and scene I see. I can see the meaning behind the symbols within the movie, I have been able to see the different languages and gestures characters use within each culture, plus I can analyze all the
