Multiple scholars argue that leisure contributes to a happy life (Mitas, Qian, Yarnal & Kersetetter, 2011; Ballantyne, Ballantyne & Packer, 2014; Newman, Tay & Diener, 2014; Mitas, 2010; Knobloch, Robertson & Aitken, 2017). Still, it is difficult to understand the interplay between leisure and SWB (subjective well-being) due to the subjectivity of the concepts (Newman et al., 2014). Thereby, leisure is context-based and actor-related which causes that people experience leisure differently and also have diverse personal outcomes. This implies that the interplay between leisure and SWB is different per person. With this assumption in mind, I would like to discuss the question “How does leisure contribute to happiness”? First, I explain my critique …show more content…
In their view, if more positive psychological processes occur, they would expect greater SWB on the whole. This is in line with that eudaimonic and hedonic effects combined cause a higher SWB (Peterson et al., 2005; Huta & Ryan, 2010; Knobloch et al., 2017). Thus, I would also expect greater SWB if more positive psychological processes occur. Newman et al (2014) researched the concept of leisure with structural and subjective leisure. They state that structural leisure promotes positive feelings in leisure (and life) while diminishing negative feelings in leisure (and life) and subjective leisure promotes leisure and life satisfaction. This also relates to the different contributions of eudaimonic and hedonic (Knobloch et al., 2017). It would be interesting to research how a specific leisure activity scores in the DRAMMA model. Especially, to understand if there is a difference in leisure activities in SWB. Studies have already acknowledged that it differs per person, but further research should be done to find out whether a leisure activity that scores at multiple DRAMMA levels contributes to a higher SWB. For instance, attending a festival (Ballantyne, et al., 2014) and participating in the Red Hat Society (Mitas et al., 2011) contributes to mastery, meaning and affiliation. Does this indicate that those leisure activities are more valuable because of their impact on a greater
If was given the opportunity to be hired as a TR specialist the most suitable work sight that is the best fit for me would be a Long Term Care centre. With clients that are of the age of retirement are not able to take of themselves or suffered a major disability that warrants them to be under the care of a health care professional, the most logical way for TR specialist to provide effective therapy in the field of TR is through the uses of the Leisure Ability Model. This model is based on the concept of internal locus of control, in intrinsic motivation, personal causality, freedom of choice and flow through the use of three service components: treatment, leisure education and recreation participation. When using this model it is imperative
Wellbeing was first discussed as authentic happiness by Seligman. In the concept of authentic happiness he discussed the components of positive emotions, meaning in life and engagement. He had described these components to be very much essential in bringing in authentic happiness which he called as wellbeing. It takes the shape of subjective wellbeing, when it becomes subjective to a person’s experience alone. The concrete aspects of health and wealth may stay away from this, when a person’s subjectivity is concerned (Kammann, 1983). Over the years as we see in other studies, this concept has changed to subjective wellbeing being defined on the basis of all the areas of life, wherein the objective factors of wealth and health, and

My own personal philosophy of leisure has been shaped by past and present activities I do for leisure and why I do them. To me, leisure is the sense of being free from external stressors that I face in my life such as school or work. The positive outcomes from partaking in leisure are generally overlooked and often underestimated. Leisure affects our emotions, our physical and mental health, and aids in the creation of relationships. In my own personal life, I have done and still participate in leisure as a way to sooth myself or unwind from the stress of school or work. The release of pent up emotions and energy for individuals helps their relationships with others and their overall health as well. When stress is released, an individual is
Levels and definitions of subjective wellbeing differ from person to person, country to country and from culture to culture. It is extremely hard to pinpoint how many and what demographic factors influence subjective wellbeing across the general population as a whole. Though we cannot, given these differences, confirm how much and to what extent our subjective wellbeing is determined by biological factors, we can deduce that a portion is built due to external, non-genetic

Positive psychology utilizes five pillars in order to flourish, achieve fulfillment, and satisfaction in life: Positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment (PERMA). The five mainstays of positive psychology are not intended to be means to some other end; these foundations are selected for their own value in personal efforts to flourish, and are fundamental to human well-being. Positive psychology describes the “good life” as being pleasant, engaging, meaningful, and full of achievements and connections. Seligman proposes positive subjective experiences illicit and promote positive emotions. Positive psychology distinguishes two types of happiness that can be derived from experiences and events: Hedonic and eudemonic happines...
The studies given as examples and discussion focuses on teenagers and young adults, but includes anyone is struggling to find happiness. Evidence to Support Thesis: Point 1: The level of well-being is emphasized as more people continue to lose track of what makes them happy. Shawn Anchor is reminding people to capture the essence of simple contentment and asking his audience to think about what they value. Anchor’s book provides seven principles that involve having an open mind to becoming happier. Anchor includes other research studies as evidence to his claims throughout the book.
Happiness can be easily defined as the state of well-being and contentment gained by personal life experiences through either direct or indirect connections with the world around us. The people we meet and the trails we go through in life add together to create a hopefully happy life. To be happy in life is indeed the only way to enjoy it. Therefore it’s no wonder that we all strive to achieve this idea of happiness. This interest in the search for true happiness has become a major factor in our modern age. Looking back at our history, the moods of many Americans have seemed to become stagnate even when we experience a rise in salaries and overall life expectance. This begs the question as to what then
Why do my life so boring? Why do I feel lonely all the time? I keep asked myself like that. I realized that I had a boring life but I don’t know how to get out of that. I was in stressful so much because of many lost in my life. I’ve always wondered that what can make happiness. Until now I learn about leisure I can answer all those questions. I realize that I wasn’t have a free time and I didn’t think that leisure activities are very important. After answer the question in the Leisure Profile Packet (LPP) I have learn that I had used my leisure in the wrong way for many years. I also learn that the value of leisure time is an important activities that help make life more worthwhile. Leisure Needy is my title in the LPP. This result is reflecting
Happiness is how something is viewed as opposed to a physical thing. However, happiness is not only a perspective but also a choice. Success and happiness are frequently linked to contentment but happiness should not be dependent on success. In spite of not succeeding in my chosen sport of horse riding the enjoyment it provided for me far outweighed any d...
Moreover, happiness is being able to enjoy time with my family, friends, being successful, and being able to accomplish my goals. Happiness has a great impact on my leisure choices because I like choosing activities that make me feel please and satisfy with myself. Such as exercising, spending time with my love ones, going out with my friends and having an active social life style. In order to be happy I need to have good and strong relationships with
According to Dr. Jeroen Nawijn, a senior lecturer in Tourism at the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, vacationing works out positively on happiness, however, the effect is small and mostly short-lived (Nawijn). He concludes, “Vacationers reported a higher degree of pre-trip happiness, compared to non-vacationers, possibly because they are anticipating their holiday. Only a very relaxed holiday trip boosts vacationers’ happiness further after return. Generally, there is no difference between vacationers’ and non-vacationers’ post-trip happiness.”

In my paper I will clarify the seven measurements of wellbeing and how we require every one and how they identify with us. These measurements are: Social Wellness, Emotional Wellness, Spiritual Wellness, Environmental Wellness, Occupational Wellness, Intellectual Wellness and Physical Wellness. Every one of the measurements of health have critical impact in our day by day living with how we converse with individuals, to how we think rationally. My paper will have the capacity to clarify measurements of wellbeing altogether.
