Learning is a process that afford the opportunity to increase one’s knowledge. VARK questionnaire aimed at helping people know and identify self and best learning strategies. This questionnaire awards scores based on the responses provided to different questions as it relates to different learning styles. The learning strategies VARK questionnaire focuses on are visual, aural, read/write and kinesthetic. Following a section of answered questionnaire, the following scores were obtained; visual 5, aural 4, read/write 4 and kinesthetic 12. Per VARK’s result, strong kinesthetic strategy was identified as the learning preference. Kinesthetic learners benefit from hands on, practical, examples, applications trips, previous experiences while learning. Also, they learn more from teachers or instructors who use real life experience to teach rather than abstract. Likewise, these set of people would gain more while studying by using case studies to relate to abstract concepts, teaching back to others, also the use of some pictures and drawings that explain the topic. In preparation for an exam, a kinesthetic learner does better creating a picture or scenario of the exam and write practice answer. Personally, the knowledge and awareness of this learning strategy seems relatively new due to previous self-identification as a virtual learner, who tends to learn more by seeing and virtually touching. Memories of situations where only watching some videos or seeing some images or diagrams without having to read a book to gain understanding of a context keeps coming to mind. But VARK literally see more into it by the virtue of the answers that were provided on the questionnaire, hence came up with kinesthetic learning strategy. Learning is defined as a permanent change in attitude or behaviour that occurs as a result of repeated experience (Sims & Sims, 1995). Understanding one’s learning style has many advantages as it can help one to identify the learning method or activities that can help to optimise the learning experience. It has been suggested that the importance of one’s learning style has been identified through studies and research on how one can maximise the potential for success and further learning development (Honey & Mumford, 2006). Learning styles are unique to each individual and are developed in childhood (Chase, 2001). We all have different personalities; therefore we all have preferred learning styles that suit us best. The way one learns depends on preference. Some learn by observing, listening and imitating others and draw conclusions from their experience. There are several factors that affect our learning style; for example, background, culture, religion and environment can have a major influence on one’s learning.
There are many different types of learning styles including, visual, aural, multi-modal, and kinesthetic (Welch). People that prefer to learn visually like to see pictures and graphs while someone that is an aural learner needs auditory stimulation like lectures and music. For someone that is a kinesthetic leader, they enjoy the hands on activities in a classroom. This would include building things, role playing, and real life experiences. However, some people prefer two or more learning styles, these people are considered multimodal learners. One goal of ours is to get students to become multimodal learners. We then plan to find a workshop that specializes in teaching professors about different learning styles and how to adjust their teaching methods to be able to get through to students with a variety of learning
Learning styles is one of the ways schools have changed over the past couple of years in regards to diversity. The varieties of learning styles of students have become more aware to educators. There are three main learning styles; visual learning, kinesthetic learning, and auditory learning. Visual learners take up about half of student learners using textbooks, charts, course outlines, and graphs are useful instructional aides (Sadker, p. 47). Kinesthetic learning is also known as tactile learning. These students learn by hands on learning. Planning for student to have movement in class will help these learners. Our last learning style is the less of the three called auditory learning. These students learn best by hearing; they can remember the details of conversations and lectures and many have strong language skills (Sadker, p. 47). By providing a time for these students to recite the lesson themselves can support this form of learning. To be an effective teacher for all the learning style diversities means being able to be flexible and incorporate a variety of teaching techniques.
In this essay I will be describing various types of learning styles and stating the advantages and disadvantages of these learning styles. I will also inform you of the most commonly used method of finding out your own learning style, and I will inform you of the man who made this method. Finally, I will write about my own preferred learning styles and the strengths and weaknesses of the different learning styles.

There are seven learning styles and techniques. The first kind of learner is a visual learner also known as a spatial, this is when someone prefers using pictures and images to understand a topic. The aural learner also known as the auditory-musical person, is a person who prefers using music or sound. There is the verbal learner or the linguistic person who prefers using words, both in speech and writing.
