GRIT is a four letter acronym that stands for growth, resilience, instinct, and tenacity. GRIT is the pathway to your success; it is where you test your strength and abilities to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals. This includes all the sacrifices, struggles, and challenges you may encounter but as long as you do not allow them to defeat you and stop you from obtaining your goals, that is where GRIT comes in. You can apply GRIT to any aspect in your life whether it is school or work. An important quality to have in order to be a successful college student is to have the ability to be resilient. Not only in college, but in life you will always face obstacles that may knock you down but it is about how you get up and bounce back and not let it defeat you. In a situation like failing a test, I allowed that to one bump in the road lead me off track and I ended up failing a class last semester because I knew I would never be able to bounce back from that grade. This semester I am taking the same class and the only difference is now I am using GRIT to prevent me from falling so far down when I face an obstacle. GRIT emphasizes the importance of having a strong support system around you such as your family, friends, and even your professors because they are always there to help. I know my family help supports me finically so I can focus all my energy on school and I do not have to worry about getting a job. I know it is important to choose your friends wisely, especially in college. I was lucky enough to have friends who I am able to study with and we push each other to succeed. My professors are important because they are always there for you to prevent you from failing. The next step in my gritty game plan is to understand that college is more than just educational; the social aspect of everything is an important key to grasp and get adjusted to. Applying GRIT can help you deal with the change and balance your work life with your social life effectively, which is important in college. When referring to my instinct, I relate this to my personal values and goals and what I feel is right and wrong in certain situations. In college you are vey tempted to go to events, parties and stay out with your friends all night but this is where GRIT comes in because you have to make sure your priorities are in order. The way I handle situations like that is think if going to a party is worth jeopardizing my grades and if it is going to prevent me from getting work done. Some classes I take have assignments that are group projects and if I make poor decisions it not only affects me but my partners as well and that is not benefiting me in any way. I have been in a situation where I had to use GRIT to put my better judgment into perspective. There are times where I hang out with my friends
