4. I plan to use the ethical lenses to approach ethical situations throughout my professional life, is to see people as a whole, as work in progress. Some individuals are willing to grow in knowledge and to do a good job wherever they may be and others choose not to get better at anything in life. In a leadership role I have to set ground rules and be an example for the team. Setting up initial expectations would alleviate misunderstanding and ongoing ethical training for all staff is vital. As a leader identifying my owe ethical values allows me to see others as they are and addressing issues as soon as they develop. Allow for people to be people but encourage staff to report problems or issues that are does not line up with company values.

The context of this ethical dilemma is abusing the elder residents. These residents have dementia and are unable to report things that happen to them. The residents are there at the facility because he/ she cannot stay home alone by themselves. The leader of this organization had a no other choice but to report this aide to the Division of Health and Senior Services. She is going to lose her certificate as a nurse assistant. She is a hardworking nurse aide and she is not going to work in the field of nursing if found guilty. Throughout one’s working life, its highly probable that ethical dilemmas will arise in professional practice in one form or another. Ethical dilemmas bare their heads in many different fashions, including: “…competing ethical principles; empathic failures due to cultural misunderstanding; language gaps; inadequate cultural training to serve a certain population, and so on” (Zoltan, 2016). In the personal experience of this reporter, Claymore Residential Home, a corporately run rehabilitative community for adults with intellectual and cognitive impairment, presents the gravest example of ethical dilemmas. It was a workplace lead by autocrats cloaked in professional titles and facades of altruism. Ethical dilemmas emanated from the top of the hierarchy and trickled throughout the organization.
The Solution phase is a mix of similarities and differences for each model. The Rational model incorporates a decision matrix to assist with the selection of a solution. Each option is listed with three various outcomes based off the criteria and each option’s ability to solve the problem. By utilizing a matrix, the user can play each solution out in order theoretically see the likelihood of success, which provides the user with a better chance of success in solving the problem. The majority of the answer I receive or have said myself is, “It does not matter as long as the baby is healthy.” That answer is fine and all, but what if you find out that your baby will have Down syndrome? Nearly 1 in 4 (22%) of pregnancies end in abortion. 50% of women now seeking abortion have at least one previous abortion.

Advance directives are written documents that addressed an individual’s medical care preferences. These documents usually take effect when patients no longer can make informed health care decisions for themselves. While these documents are helpful to loved ones and health care providers, there are a number of ethical considerations that can make the development and execution of advance directives difficult (Llama, 2014). This author is a geriatric nurse that recently observed an advance directive ethical issue in the clinical setting.
