4. I plan to use the ethical lenses to approach ethical situations throughout my professional life, is to see people as a whole, as work in progress. Some individuals are willing to grow in knowledge and to do a good job wherever they may be and others choose not to get better at anything in life. In a leadership role I have to set ground rules and be an example for the team. Setting up initial expectations would alleviate misunderstanding and ongoing ethical training for all staff is vital. As a leader identifying my owe ethical values allows me to see others as they are and addressing issues as soon as they develop. Allow for people to be people but encourage staff to report problems or issues that are does not line up with company values.
C. 1. A recent ethical dilemma is with an employee who was reported by other staff, stating she was verbally and had an incident of physical abuse of a resident. This employee is a great person and likes to please the supervisor by any means. The recent reporting of elder abuse was reported to the elder hotline and the employee was investigated. The context of this ethical dilemma is abusing the elder residents. These residents have dementia and are unable to report things that happen to them. The residents are there at the facility because he/ she cannot stay home alone by themselves. The leader of this organization had a no other choice but to report this aide to the Division of Health and Senior Services. She is going to lose her certificate as a nurse assistant. She is a hardworking nurse aide and she is not going to work in the field of nursing if found guilty. The dilemma for this leader having to terminate a good hardworking aide and that she is going not work in this field any longer. The leader had to exhibit fairness, honesty for the rest of the team.
